Which Android smartphone manufacturer has the longest support in firmware/security updates? Posted: 27 Feb 2020 12:35 AM PST Especially security updates. I have a OnePlus 3 and it's no longer getting any sort of updates which probably means I need a new phone soonish due to security reasons. I see most companies only support their equipment for around 2 years unfortunately. Any manufacturer supports the phones for longer than 2 years? At least security wise? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Phone not giving option to 'Use Once' when loading files Posted: 27 Feb 2020 08:17 AM PST I'm running android 5.1.1. On other android versions, when I load a file, a dialog pops up asking me what app I want to use to load a file and I can choose to always use the same app or just use it once. In this case, it doesn't give me the option of choosing once or always. It always just defaults to always once I choose an app. What can I do about this? [link] [comments] |
A song I purchased from Play Store only shows up in Play Music, NOT the default music app... Posted: 27 Feb 2020 03:22 AM PST Do I even own it??? I can't find it's storage location either. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Feb 2020 08:59 AM PST After the recent Android update on my Verizon Note 9, the included weather app has changed for the worse. The app is just named "Weather", and it's now on version 1.6.20.50 (I don't know what version it was before.)
So is there a good weather app you use that is more like the old version of this one? [link] [comments] |
How to hide my name when texting others? Posted: 27 Feb 2020 10:59 AM PST I recently purchased an item off Craigslist. I was text messaging the owner and we arranged a meeting time and location, when he said "Great! Cya there WhoopWhoopShabadoo!" I was surprised because I never told this person my name. When we met, I asked him in person how he knew my name and he said it displayed on his phone while I was texting him. I was stunned because I had no idea my name would appear when texting messaging someone. For privacy reasons, does anyone know how to disable or opt out of this feature ??? [link] [comments] |

Alternative app for Hangouts? (That lets me connect to Hangouts!) Posted: 27 Feb 2020 07:38 AM PST I can't find a single decent suggestion. People list a bunch of Hangouts alternatives... yet none of them work on the Hangouts network! Did I ask for random communication apps? No, I asked for an alternate app for Hangouts communications. My main issue with Hangouts is there's no dark mode, which in 2020 is ridiculous. How hard can it possibly be to adjust some colors and add a single menu option? Thanks much. [link] [comments] |
I want to use my tablet as a message board on my refrigerator... Posted: 27 Feb 2020 09:44 AM PST Basically, I want it to show 3 screens and I want to swipe between each screen without opening the app drawer. I just want to be able to swipe left or right to get from screen to screen and from app to app. Something similar to switching desktops on a Mac or Windows computer. Will I have to install something special to the device? Do I have to buy a certain android tablet? For example: Screen 1 - Shopping List (Google Sheets) Screen 2 - Time + Weather (1Weather) Screen 3 - To Do List (Google Keep) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Feb 2020 09:28 AM PST I have a LG V30+ on Sprint. Approximately 24 hours ago, my phone decided at the snap of a finger that it was going to slow down tremendously. Unlocking my phone with my fingerprint went from taking half a second to taking up to 40 full seconds. I've had a handful of times that clicking the Settings button takes over a full minute to bring up settings. The response time for several actions on the phone for simple actions has become not just noticeable, but unbearable. I've run Lookout on my phone and it has found 0 problematic apps. I'm assuming an app updated that's causing the issue. I've found my list of updated apps but within the last 24 hours, the list of updated apps is nearly 50 apps. Is there an easier way to determine which apps could be causing the problem first? How should I go about narrowing down which apps could be the issue? There's not been a change in battery life on my phone and when I check the app usage on my battery, nothing stands out at all. I'd rather not have to delete 50 apps and add them back 1 at a time if there's a better way to go about this. [link] [comments] |

Cannot send text to ONE contact on Galaxy S8 Posted: 27 Feb 2020 12:05 PM PST I just receive an error message as follows: "X-XXX-XXXX" is invalid or does not subscribe. I have tried resetting the phone, ensuring that the contact is not blocked, deleting the contact and reentering in the phone / renaming the contact. I also made sure that this contact was added to both "phone contacts" as well as my "google contacts" I used to be able to message this person without difficulty. Of note, I can receive messages from him but cannot send any back.... Any suggestions? [link] [comments] |

Media pauses randomly and it is driving me crazy Posted: 27 Feb 2020 12:02 PM PST Iam really frustrated here. I have a Samsung A50, it is about 4 month old now, however from about two month from when I bought it my media just stops playing. Essentially it Pauses. This happens in any media app. From YouTube, Deezer to Audible. Sometime it happened more often than other times. Doesn't matter if Bluetooth speaker, earphones and build in speakers, still pauses. This happens when I am using the phone actively, like even when typing this, my music paused a view times. This also happen when the phone is not in use as well as in Flight mode. It is not notifications, as that pauses it briefly and continues. What also happen sometimes, but not that often, is when the phone is not in use at all, no music etc, there would be some kind of sound starting to play over the speaker, very briefly but sometimes shorter then other times. The one time I could swear I heart that "Candy Crush" sound like in the game. However, I have absolutely no games on my phone. I then thought it might be the samsung game app thing where all the games show up, however I can't uninstall that as the phone has it by default. Now, I have tried looking for what to do everywhere and I tried a few thing like cleaning the cache of each media app and even reinstalling some of them, nothing works. I suspect it might be an app gone rogue? Is there anyway to detect an app like that? My previous phone was a Samsung A5 2017 and it had the exact same problem, I was all to glad to replace it as I thought the problem was phone specific, but somehow the problem followed me to my new phone. Regarding my apps, as far as I know all off them are fairly mainstream and I have no douchey apps as far as I know. Please any help will be appreciated Thanks [link] [comments] |
Samsung S8+ just restarting after root Posted: 27 Feb 2020 04:17 AM PST Hi guys, This is my first post here so sorry if something is not ok with my post. So I wanted to root my android phone because i love tech and since my warranty is over from my phone I might as well just try it. So I followed this guide: (https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8+/how-to/guide-how-to-install-twrp-root-galaxy-t3752492) and I managed to do every step until I came to step number 12: Now Choose INSTALL option and install Magisk or SuperSU . I dont get what I have to do here since this option is not on my phone. Did I miss anything, this step is the first who mentioned Magisk or SuperSU. Is it really necessary to use the original samsung cable? I did use the on I got from my Sennheiser MOMENTUM 3 because I dont have my original cable anymore. Why do you even have to use the original one? If I try to restart my phone normally now it just keeps restarting doing nothing. Sorry if this are to many questions or if something is unclear but you want to help me please let me know in the comments if you need any further information. Thanks for all the help in advance! Can I spot any malicious behaviour caused by JavaScript in my browser? Posted: 27 Feb 2020 09:43 AM PST As the title suggests, I was wondering if I could spot a malicious behaviour caused by JavaScript. And something else. Is it easy/common to get this sort of malware? [link] [comments] |
Allowing a phone call in Do Not Disturb mode when you don't know the last 4 digits Posted: 27 Feb 2020 09:18 AM PST I just started using the Do Not Disturb feature, and I'm using the "Priority only allows" settings to determine which phone calls get through (starred contacts, plus anyone calling twice in 15 minutes). The problem is that I am on a cancellation list for an appointment at a hospital, and the department isn't sure which phone number will show up on my phone if they call. While I know the most likely number, it would be safest for me to allow any calls from the phone numbers that the hospital uses, meaning that I would know the area code and the next 3 digits. Is there any setting or app that will allow me to specify that? I am using a TCL A502DL running Android 8.1.0. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Feb 2020 09:07 AM PST I have a rooted LG V30 but have the same issue with stock. I live in a fast growing town and we just received TMobile coverage a couple years ago. The issue I have is the ATT signal is stronger throughout town and my phone chooses the stronger roaming signal over the weaker TMobile signal every time. I used to go to network settings, search, choose TMobile, and it would stay on that weaker signal until I would leave the area I was in. Anyone have any insight into keeping my phone on TMobile even when the signal is weak? [link] [comments] |
Can't transfer photos to SD card. Posted: 26 Feb 2020 08:04 PM PST Every time I try to transfer a photo from the phone to the SD card it gives me a message that says "couldn't move file error unknown". I am using the Google files app. If anyone has any idea what is going on or what I can do to fix it, that would be great. [link] [comments] |

MobileIron Email+ App Crashing Posted: 27 Feb 2020 08:01 AM PST Anyone else having this issue? My company uses MobileIron Go and two users are reporting issues with Email+ constantly crashing. They both use Android 9 but another user (who also uses 9) is not having the issue. Currently Googling to see if there's any announcements about it. [link] [comments] |
Wifi randomly turns on since day one of ownership. Posted: 26 Feb 2020 09:28 PM PST I have an LG v30+. Great phone. To this day, it is not buggy and does not crash. However, no matter what I do, I cannot usually get wifi to turn off and stay off. It regularly tries searching for networks after I shut it off. I've tried everything I can think of to get it to stop doing this, and nothing works. It's always been this way. It makes my daily battery expectations to vary greatly. Thoughts? [link] [comments] |
