Basically can I have some sort of airplane mode for calls&messages but keep mobile data on? Note 9 with Android 10, no root.

When I put it in my iMac it says "the disk concerted was not readable by this computer" and when i fix it and put it in my S8 it says "corrupted". So work on one or the other but I can't transfer files from either one since it won't work on bot

    Google Messages & RCS

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 09:18 AM PST

    Hi everyone

I was under the impression that Google decided to skip waiting on for carries to implement RCS and used their own serves so long as you use Google Messages.

Last night I switched to TMobile but to my surprise there is no RCS? I tried clearing cache and data but still no go.

Did they officially launch with their servers or is the hack still needed for now?

    Samsung Account Advice

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 09:15 AM PST

    Hello!

I have a slight problem with my Samsung Account. So, basically, I created my Samsung Account about 2 years ago, and am using it well. Now, I want to change my email address because I don't use that one anymore, and besides, I already deleted it. And you need your password to change it... and I forgot my password.

The thing is that I already deleted this email account (Google) about a year before, and I can't recover it now that I deleted it too long ago. And if possible, I would like to keep this account because of all the data that's on it. But if I must delete the account from my phone and make a new account, how could I achieve that? (Not making a new account, deleting the account) (My phone only allows 1 Samsung account at a time.)

What would you suggest to do?

Questions regarding retro game emulation and controllers on Android phones

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 12:06 PM PST

I never play games on my phone. I like to think of it as a tool more than an entertainment device. However, I just had a neat idea for a game controller for phones and wanted to know if such a device might exist. I also have a few other questions, most out of curiosity.

    1) Do game controllers exist that can slide down from behind the device, just like old Blackberry keyboards?

    2) Is it possible to use a Nintendo Joy-Con with an Android, given Joy-Cons use standard Bluetooth transceivers?

    3) How good are current emulators for popular systems released up to the N64? I'm more interested in "2D" consoles, like the GBA and SNES. I don't think it's a good idea to try playing GCN on such a small screen.

The sort of phone I have is an LG Phoenix 4.

Best way to send and receive photos from iPhone users?

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 11:42 AM PST

I constantly seem to be in situations where I want to send photos to iPhone users or receive photos from them. Most are not very tech savvy, and most don't want to install new apps to send a photo.

The most common ways seem to be sending via iMessage (which results in MMS compression for me) and sending via WhatsApp (which still compresses a lot). Of course, Airdrop is not an option and most don't use any cloud storage services like Google Photos or Apple Photos. Sending as a document on WhatsApp also doesn't seem to work on iOS since the file system is so limited.

Are there any good ways of getting around this, besides just buying an iPhone?

    Android 10 app crashes

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 11:33 AM PST

Good morning everyone , I'm posting today because I recently upgraded my Samsung S9 to the newest launch of android that was dropped by Samsung , and to put it simply my performance in general apps has gotten seemingly worse , a lot more laggy spots and sometimes full on freezes , game performance in itself is still okay so it may be an issue with a lack of ram, aswell as apps completely shutting down at random or refreshing when I open another , for example I like listening to YouTube and playing hearthstone, but now I've updated my software whenever I start any game with an audio playing from a different app it straight up crashes it and then closes it, it's getting really annoying and I was wondering if anyone knew a fix for either issue, or if this is just Samsung trying to pull an apple an throttle older phones. Thanks everyone

Any notable fixes for screen scratches that worked for you?

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 07:36 AM PST

Hey all, i've had my one plus 7t pro a little over three months now and it has accumulated a few scratches that while not deep are a bit of an eye sore. Their are lots of methods online for pseudo-fixes like: toothpaste, glass polish, and others but i'm hesitant to try any. Whats your experience in dealing with scratches and has any of these methods you see online worked for you.

How to change Assist app on Android 9?

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 07:01 AM PST

I just got Nokia 7.2 which has Android 9, and I'm trying to change the Assist app to Dolphin browser, but the phone defaults back to Google assist? I even uninstalled Google app, but I still can't get it changed. There is an option for Dolphin browser, which I click, but it doesn't save the option for some reason.

In my old phone I open Dolphin browser by pressing the home button longer, and I want the same for this new phone.

    Xbox one controller

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 06:37 AM PST

Is there anyway to disable the android mappings for an Xbox one controller? Or are there alternate controller drivers I could use somehow?

I am trying to use the controller with steam link but certain things are not passed to the application.

Guide button is set as Home. Tried disabling it in button mapper, but that's useless as it doesn't do anything then.

Guide + Back turns the shield off. I don't want that behavior, as I want this to be a hotkey combination in steam link.

The question is for Shield, but really I'm interested for phone and other Android devices as well.

How to factory reset tablet that has KNOX?

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 09:56 AM PST

I've acquired a tablet that's a few years old and has KNOX on it passworded, no access to password and the administration that previously ran it for their business no longer exists.

I've seem to tried everything (im no android expert tho) to completely factory reset the tablet with a fresh OS to no avail.

Does anyone have any idea how to get this tablet functioning again, other than trying to figure out what the password to login to the tablet is?

    It's a Samsung Galaxy S Tablet (SM-T805W)

    Thanks!

Question about RAM and closing apps

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 09:34 AM PST

A year ago I upgraded from a 2GB RAM to a 6GB RAM Device because even though apps ran smoothly, they'd start closing when I was using more than 3 at the same time

However, my current device (Zenfone 5z ZS620KL) is showing the same behaviour. If I open Reddit, Instagram, and a browser with 3 tabs and a music player, when I return to Reddit it goes again to the top of the feed. Sometimes even entering a post and coming back to the main feed on Reddit makes it forget where O was and go to the top again. This also happens with web pages being loaded again of I switch apps, although not everytime

I bought this device specifically because I wanted a 6GB and not 4Gb ram phone to avoid this. System shows constante usage of 3.7gb, never more. Is there something I'm doing wrong, is it possible to make it use the whole 6gb? Or is this the way Android works ?

Thanks in advance for your replies

Gboard not auto capitalizing I's when in a sentence due to lowercase i being in the suggestion?

    Posted: 21 Feb 2020 07:07 PM PST

It started happening a few days ago and ive tried everything to fix it but nothings working. I figured out that its from the lowercase i being in the suggestion for whatever reason so it thinks its an actual word. Ive removed it several times from the suggestion but it doesnt seem to work as it just reappears 5 seconds later. Ive checked my personal dictionary as well and theres no lowercase i in there. Autocorrect and autocaps are also both on so thats not it either. Its the damn suggestion. Ive looked through all of gboards settings and nothing seems to work. I clicked the delete learned words and data option which didnt do anything. Im out of ideas, any help?

    Pixel 3 overheating

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 08:24 AM PST

In the past few days my Pixel 3 has been powering off because it's getting too hot after a short period of time, even if I'm not doing much with it. This hasn't been a problem before and seemed to coincide with an outage on the phone network I'm on and was virtually unusable. It's lasting a bit longer before shutting down today but doesn't seem to be taking charge while powered off.

Even with battery saver on and using WiFi it powers off trying to download updates after just a couple minutes.

Has anyone else had this problem?

    Best launcher for me?

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 07:09 AM PST

    Requirements:

    - Clean UI

    - Access Widgets

    - Limited number of applications on the home screen.

Similar to Samsung's Ultra Power Saving Mode, but with widgets.

I think it does, but it's not implemented. Neither Enforcing nor Permissive. Then what's the point to give such support!?

Android 10 froze (?) while encrypting. After a forced reboot, it started normally. Is it still secure now?

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 07:03 AM PST

I own a OnePlus 2 and just installed an Android 10 ROM from XDA a few days ago. It runs well, and I'll definitely use that one from now on, if I can.

However, when I tried to encrypt my phone, it rebooted to the OnePLus Logo and got stuck there. I have newly encrypted this device several times over the years on different ROMs and it has always been a matter of minutes.

After more than half an hour of seing no movement, no progress, nothing, I forced it to reboot by holding down the power button. After that it booted up fine. Everything seems to work, no files are lost, all apps start. Settings page tells me my device is encrypted now.

But I'm not sure if I should trust that. I interrupted the encryption, didn't I? I would have expected it to be broken and unable to boot after that. I'm worried that everything seems normal, but part of the system is broken or unencrypted or a security vulnerability without me even realizing it.

Can this happen? Is everything fine or should I format the whole phone and reinstall everything?

How to share a reverse tethered connection on windows?

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 12:29 AM PST

Hey, im currently attempting to share my pc's internet connection via reverse tethering to my android and from there to share it via a wifi hotspot to other devices. I dont have access to a wifi-stick or router.

https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1882852 This topic has a solution for this apperently, however it's for linux and i have windows (so i dont know if it'll work) it's also fairly outdated (which is why i didnt wanna bump it)

I attempted this with "gnirehtet" which allows simple reverse tethering however this program doesnt support sharing that connection at all ( ttps://github.com/Genymobile/gnirehtet/issues/126 )

Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

‎Gboard's pīnyīn Chinese glide-typing feature suddenly went stupid and no longer recognized pretty common words.

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 02:29 AM PST

I don't know what happened. I've been using it for about a year now (I actually use it for Traditional Chinese, as most of my Chinese texting is with Taiwanese people).

This might mean fuck-all to people who have no practical reason to know Chinese, so anything indented by the blue line is just examples of the kinds of typos it's making. You can skip if you don't care.

it'll interpret "想" ("xiăng": to want) as "仙女" ("xiān-nǚ": female celestial: fairy maiden; nymph) [to type the ü character, you type "v" on a pīnyīn keyboard, so the keyboard thinks I'm gliding past the "v", not the "g"]

Any other word that ends in "ng" (of which there are plenty) will be interpreted as "[the letters preceeding it] - space - nv"

黃 ("huáng": yellow) becomes 花女 ("huā-nǚ": flower girl)

生 ("shēng": on its own, means 'birth', but is used as a component character in many words) becomes 啊很女 ("a-hěn-nǚ": ah, very female)

it'll interpret "什麼" ("shén-me": what) as

"啊很餓" ("a, hěn-è": ah, very hungry)

I'm also now noticing that any word that starts with "sh..." becomes "a+h..."

About a million other examples of basic parts of speech being ridiculously misinterpreted by using the glide keyboard. I can no longer type with one hand, as my phone is rather large. I must hold it with two hands and type with both thumbs.

I don't have this problem with my Gboard English, Korean, or Japanese keyboard. The whole reason I got Gboard was because of how consistently accurate and intuitive it was to use, even when switching through the different languages I need to use.

How fix? Did I accidentally turn off its ability to be not-stupid?
