My first ever mobile game: “Disc Brick”. No ads, no consumables—a simple, but fun, completely free-to-play game

    Posted: 03 Feb 2020 01:17 PM PST

"Disc Brick" on the Google Play Store

I posted this on the r/Apple subreddit a couple weekends ago, and I've got some requests to make mention of it here as well, since it's on the Google Play Store as well as the iOS App Store.

This is the first app I've made and is a simple disc-breaking app. I really enjoy these types of games, but all of the versions of it I've played are plagued with some typical problems: (1) intrusive ads, (2) aggressive monetization practices, and (3) low-quality aesthetics. My goal was to make the best version of this game mechanic by making it feel good to play, look great, and be completely devoid of ads and consumable purchases. Overall, I feel I've achieved that, and wanted to share it with the Android community. I welcome any feedback and comments about the game. I really enjoyed making it and I hope you enjoy playing it!

The rules are simple: collect discs, break bricks. The longer your round lasts, the harder the bricks are to break. The goal is to get the highest score you can. It's a simple and clean game, good for playing in short sessions.

TIL Google Trips is not dead, it is still included in Google services and can be saved in your app drawer or on your home screen

    Posted: 03 Feb 2020 12:19 PM PST

I just set up a flight for an upcoming interview and immediately got a notification that Google created a new input in my "Google Trips" app. I was under the impression that trips was gone with the removal of the...trips app, as well as inbox.

I knew there was some way to still access this info but hadn't yet found it. So this was nice. I also discovered that, as with all webpages, this page can be saved to your app drawer or home screen if you might be traveling a lot.

Happy to see this is still around and wanted to let anybody know if you hadn't already seen this.

You can see your own travel page here.

TL;DR Despite what killedbygoogle.com says, Google Trips still exists and it's still very useful.

A few features to make Google Keep and Calendar very usable apps. My suggestions. Your thoughts?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2020 11:52 PM PST

Google has Calendar (with its Event/Task/Reminder categories), Keep and Tasks. All of these have some overlapping features. To make these apps more usable, I would like to see the following features added to the respective apps.

Calendar - Add better mobile-notification capabilities (Snooze, for instance)

Keep - Add ability to generate email notifications

Tasks - <Keep does pretty much everything that this app is supposed to do>

PSA : 'Your Phone App' on windows now support call from PC feature for all phones. Not limited to Samsung anymore.

    Posted: 03 Feb 2020 03:42 AM PST

Lately they only supported in Samsung phones, now it seems they updated the Phone app so that everyone can use this. Call feature work via bluetooth, so you have to turn on bluetooth on the PC and pair it with your phone.

If it is not there, then turn on Calls from the setting of the Your Phone App.

What do you guys think of small phones? I bought a redmi 8a a month ago but i couldn't get used to it, so i switched to the moto g7 play (i don't have a heavy use so i prefer budget phones). Fits in your pocket without problems and is practical in everyday life.

What's going to break the depressing monotony of incremental updates and massive price hikes?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2020 05:54 AM PST

It's like the Nokia N-series over again and we're waiting for a new iphone. What possible technologies could bring this about? Why not even take a step back with a broader phone with bigger battery, traditional uninterrupted display, bone-stock android skin, microSD storage and replaceable battery, that would actually be good unironically. Rubber back like the V10 too.

Code and IDE editors in the possible Android desktop mode?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2020 08:13 PM PST

With Samsung's Dex solution in the Android world, it added more functionality for productivity. Soon after we had the version of Huawei, and with Android 10 a basis for a possible native desktop mode.

Will that if it becomes a reality to change the development mode of code editors or even IDE, for Android phones? Currently the applications available for this, only work with a language or have limitations of interfaces or even of functions, if it really was an Android feature can we see versions adapted for this mode from editors known as Sublime, VS Code and other?

    • This would not need to be limited to these categories, we could see more adapted versions of desktop video and photo editors, running on Android (With limitations, I believe) but adapting to new formats offered by this possible desktop mode

Anyway, what do you think this can change in Android apps? Can this revitalize Androids tablets?
