    Android TV Best Budget Box

    Android TV Best Budget Box

    Best Budget Box

    Posted: 20 Jan 2020 06:03 AM PST

Hey everyone, finally have my wife convinced to cut the cable cord but I need something to replace all our apps. I'm looking at an AndroidTV box. And from what I've been reading the nVidia Shield is hands down the best ($150/$200). The Mi s is next in the tier ($60).

Anyone know a budget box that runs the $20/$30 range, connects via HDMI, does 1080p and I can play movies from either USB or a network drive I attached to it?

    Thanks.

Is An Android TV For Me?

    Posted: 19 Jan 2020 11:49 PM PST

I recently bought a Samsung TV and I have a lot of .mkv files saved on an external drive that I would like to play on the TV. Plugging the drive directly into the TV lets me play most of those files but certain .mkv with the DTS audio codec aren't supported. Also I can't access subtitle settings either. Would an Android TV be the solution to my problem? I just want to keep the external drive connected and just leave it there and have access to my content whenever.

    Philips 50PUS7303 Ambilight problems

    Posted: 20 Jan 2020 04:13 AM PST

Hello, I was wondering if someone encounters the similar problem with this TV as me.

When I turn off the TV, the Ambilight LEDs turn on and off randomly in white light. It looks like if there was something going on on the screen and the LEDs react to it. But before I turned off the TV, I went to Home screen, which is static.

Currently, it is morning in Europe, so I can't take a picture of the effect. It is really visible only during the night.

I have already tried updating and factory reset. The simple solution is to turn off Ambilight when I go to sleep, but that's a little inconvenient.

I can't believe that this thing is supposed to stream 4K. It doesn't even touch 20mbps.

Netflix 10 second rewind not working

    Posted: 19 Jan 2020 04:47 PM PST

I have Android TV on a Sony Bravia and before on the Netflix app, if I pressed the left button whatever I'm watching would rewind the last 10 seconds and keep playing. Recently now though if I press left, it goes straight to the rewind option. Does anyone else have this or is it just a bug on my setup?

    Browser for Shield TV

    Posted: 19 Jan 2020 09:21 PM PST

    Hello,

I am looking for a web browser for my Android TV. Tried the following, but none suites my purpose.

    • Puffin : Doesn't work with many of the web sites, though it works for popular websites. Looks like I have to go through white list process if I want to open my own custom web site. Also cannot be used to open local network browsing as everything goes though puffin servers.
    • Firefox: Side loading works, but I cannot save book marks/passwords etc. Every time I have to re-type. Looks like Firefox doesn't have permission to write into the disks. During installation, it didn't ask for any permission to access SD card etc ( which normally happens with many apps ). If any have any idea, please let me know.
    • Chrome: Same issue as above after side loading.

If any one has any suggestions, please let me know.

    Android TV and atmos

    Posted: 19 Jan 2020 09:13 AM PST

So I just recently upgraded my tv to a Vizio v655-g9 and a vizio soundbar sb36512-f6. In doing that I've went down the dolby atmos rabbit hole. Trying to get this atmos signal to pass with any android box is not that easy of a task if you want to on a budget. I've read posts all over reddit saying this box with work or that one will work with CoreELEC and Kodi. I have had some luck with a newer Amlogic passing through Dolby Digital Plus with atmos but not Dolby TrueHD. Is the Nvidia Shield Pro 2019 able to play and pass Dolby TrueHD effortlessly? I'm tired of jumping through a bunch of hoops just to get atmos to play, I just want to plug in my usb drive and watch a movie with everything working without having to go through all the hassle.

    Mi Box S replacement remote

    Posted: 19 Jan 2020 09:51 AM PST

Long story short: my dog chewed the remote and I can't find a replacement.

Anyone knows where can I purchase an original replacement remote (new model with netflix button)? I need Bluetooth and live at Europe.

Thank you very much in advance!
