Alternative OS for old tv stick wit Android?

    Posted: 17 Jan 2020 07:22 AM PST

I have a couple of android tv sticks which are rather old (Android 4.x). They remain useful for video streaming and light emulation. But they became painfully slow to do anything else, and of course I have concerns about security (these things are still connected to my home network). So I want to know if there's some linux-based alternative, lightweight enough and with up to date kernel. For some reason, google search became ineffective, so I can't find anything useful.

    Thanks in advance.

Any way to downgrade mi box s to 8.0?

    Posted: 17 Jan 2020 01:40 AM PST

9.0 is so buggy. How can they be so incompetent and release a beta version? They should give a way to downgrade to a stable version. All my streaming services are crashing a lot. It's close to unusable now.

External Hard Drive, Sleep Mode, noise

    Posted: 16 Jan 2020 08:37 PM PST

Hello! Ive bought a Mibox for my Bedroom. Since I wanted to use it as a Media Player I connected an external Hard drive to it. So far so good. But when i turn off the Mibox (sleep Mode), The Mibox keeps the Hard drive "alive" - so about every 30 seconds the Hard drive starts and makes this typical "booting" noise.

Do you know how I could fix this Problem? Is there Any way to shutdown the Mibox?? I cant use a USB stick (capacity).. Thx!

[Request] Fix Jiobrowser (JioPage) apk for crashing

    Posted: 17 Jan 2020 04:04 AM PST

Jiobrowser is for Jio set top box. But it's fully installable and optimized for Android TV. It crashes frequently when browsing on Android TV. But when it's installed on Android phone, it doesn't crash and do run smoothly. So anyone can fix the crashing problem.

TCL DP660 with Oreo will not stay in standby

    Posted: 16 Jan 2020 09:45 AM PST

I have had this TV for about a year now. I like the idea of having access to the Play Store (VLC, Steam Link etc.) it is a little rough around the edges.

The biggest problem is the long cold starts. Is this a problem with AndroidTV or Smart TVs in general?

As a workaround I have enabled "Fast start". Problem is that if I wake it after sleeping for 12-24 hours it often boots up from the beginning anyway. Is this a fixable problem? Is it specific to TCL or this a general problem with AndroidTV?

YouTube only finding channels and not videos

    Posted: 16 Jan 2020 03:25 PM PST

Something weird going on with the YouTube app on my Shield Android TV app. When we do a search, it's only coming up with channels, and not the videos. It's not doing it in my Android phone app, just Android TV app. Anyone else have this happened? We looked in the settings, and I can't find anything that might do this.

Is it possible to block VOD ads on youtubeTV on androidTV?

    Posted: 16 Jan 2020 02:11 PM PST

So YoutubeTV has injected non-skippable ads on VOD catalog content (not DVR recorded stuff), but when playing YoutubeTV in a PC browser with ublock origin those ads are completely blocked and skipped like they are on regular Youtube.

Since AndroidTV is pretty much open, and you can sideload APK's, im wondering if there is a way to block the YoutubeTV VOD ads via DNS or some other method? Google search came up with nothing, and discussion of blocking ads is not permitted in the YoutubeTV sub.

I have been using one of these with kodi for some time and it sometimes struggles pretty bad. Recently upgraded my TV to 4K and got some 4K content to stream and its almost unusable. Anyone else have this issue. I have a wired connection too.

Android box won't stay connected to internet.

    Posted: 16 Jan 2020 11:05 AM PST

I have a Tx3 Mini and I have it connected to the internet by cable. Everytime I turn it on I have to go into setting and manually connect it. Should it stay connected without me having to do this every time?
