The eternal problem of google services

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 03:12 AM PST

On my mother's phone (xiaomi android one). auto update is disabled, update from mobile data is disabled, gallery sync disabled. EVERYTHING is faking disabled, still google services used about a gigabyte of mobile data in just 1 day. WTF is going on with google services?

Galaxy S7 constantly "dangerously full" despite uninstalling and moving apps

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 10:15 AM PST

My Galaxy S7 is constantly warning me my storage is dangerously full at ~31.5 GB / 32 GB. I've moved as much as I can to my SD card, including photos and apps. I've uninstalled apps. I'll go through a cycle of moving and uninstalling up to as much as 1 GB at a time and yet a few hours later my phone is warning me I'm nearly full again.

    Any idea what's going on?

Phone has had notification about wifi calling for months that I cant get to go away

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 07:50 AM PST

So after my sim card was swapped my phone got a notification from wifi calling that says tap here to confirm or update emergency location information but when I click it I get a loading this may take a few moments message and then nothing ever happens. Ive let it sit for hours but it just loads forever. I dont have any issues with my phone or using 911 or anything and just want this to finally go away.

Here is a pic of the notification but I cant take a screenshot of the loading part because it says that security settings prevents it. https://ibb.co/SNhPgzB

    Do Eraser Apps really work?

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 08:28 AM PST

    Hi,

    i have got a Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus (SM-G965F) (Duos, Dual-Sim).

    - Does any eraser app really work so that data (e.g. photos, videos, other content, apps) can be deleted for all time - so that it is not possible to rescue/restore these files. Or are any requirements needed., e.g. a rooted respectively flashed phone etc.?

    - Does it depend on the android version or the phone model?

For example, I found these, but there are more:

    -iShredder

    -Shreddit - Data Eraser

    -Secure Eraser

    -Shreddit - Data Eraser

    -Remo File Eraser

    -SHREDDER: Data Eraser

    -Andro Shredder

    -Secure Wipe

I tried some, they give a feedback that the job is done, but are the files reallly wiped, so that it is not possible to rescue/restore these files.

What exactly do hard resets do, from within the Settings or while the phone is off (with the key shortcuts)

    Thx!

Have to toggle airplane mode or reboot to get mobile data back?

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 01:11 PM PST

Multiple times a day my mobile data connection stop working and i have to toggle airplane mode to get it back, once its back everything is fast again so I don't think its a signal problem. I'm on Verizon with an LGv50 running android 9. It seems to happen more while I use hangouts but that is also by far the most I use my mobile data so I'm not sure if they are related. Has anyone else experienced this?

I've reset my network connections, clean out apps, used glasswire to monitor the connection and don't see anything standing out. No problems on wifi.

I have not done a full reset yet as I have multiple business apps that are an extreme pain to get back. (RSA keys from a central office and such)

    PlayStore App compromised?!

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 12:49 PM PST

I have been chasing this malware for weeks now. This malware is easily detected and removed by malware bytes but reinstalls itself after an hour or so. After a ton of monitoring and trying to figure out where it's coming from with a staff member from Malware Bytes, we've reached the conclusion that my Google Play app is compromised. I reached this conclusion because if I disable it and then remove the malware, it doesn't return. I re-enabled to test and within 30 seconds the phone was riddled with it again.

So now that I know that it's coming from the playstore itself, how do I get rid of it?? It seems as long as the play store is disabled, the phone is clean but it doesn't seem particularly practical to keep it disabled at all times given that's the only place to download new apps as needed.

Not really tech support, just settings. Anyway to change the missed alarm feature so it will go off again if you miss it? It made me miss my test today.

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 06:46 AM PST

The missed alarm where if you don't stop it it will just shut off and not go off again. I guess I was sleeping too hard to wake up and hear my alarm because I stupidly didn't have the alarm set loud enough I guess

Mobile App request: Upload to Google Nearline from Android Device

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 12:41 PM PST

Is the an Android mobile app which will upload files from an Android device's internal storage to Google Nearline cloud storage?

The Google Console Android mobile app allows viewing of Nearline content, but not upload (unless I'm mistaken).

Now that my Google Pixel Gen 1 is dead (motherboard), I'd like to find an easy way to upload my full-res photos to the my google nearline buckets

    Thanks!

Hi, I'm on android 10 on my note10+ and I just noticed in my google activity, I can see the apps I've opened and stuff I searched for in my phone. Is there a way I can disable this? Here is a screenshot.

    Thanks!

Edit: So I've found where to "pause" it, but does anyone know what the service is called in android so I can remove it with adb?

    Can't find a good icon maker app/software

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 10:52 AM PST

    Hi,

I've tried icon changer (doesn't work for folders),

material Icon changer (No matter which icon resolution I try to output, the icons always look smaller than the others on the homescreen)

and the website Android Asset Studio - Launcher icon generator&backColor=rgb(0%2C%200%2C%200)&crop=0&backgroundShape=square&effects=none&name=ic_launcher) (Icons I made with that looked less sharp, perhaps 192x192 is just too low?)

CPL (Costum Pixel launcher) has a built in icon creater but you can't change folder icons on that one as well. So, unless you know an app that lets you change folder icons Without ruining the icon (by adding an extra symbol to it for some reason) I wouldn't want to use this launcher either.

    Can you help me out?

Currently using Pixel 3 with Lawnchair Launcher 2 or Nova Launcher

how do i save my own voice mail?

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 03:08 AM PST

Hey guys uh, I don't know if this is the right place to ask this, so if there's a better place it'd be great if you can tell me and I can ask it there, thanks. but pretty much I want to save my own voice mail message (as in the message people hear when they call me and I don't pick up). pretty much it's really old and I'm a kid and I'm gonna change it, but I want to keep it because it's become a sort of joke between my friends. so if there's any way I can actually save the file to my device that would be awesome. thankyou <3

Camera doesn't allow me to use the flashlight when in light conditions

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 10:25 AM PST

I have a Samsung Galaxy A50 with the last update installed but my camera app just won't set the flash on/always on. The only options available are Auto and Off and I can't turn it on manually from the notification bar when the camera app is running. Is it a problem of mine or it is just like that? Seems strange that they wouldn't put always on flash... btw thanks in advance! :)

Photo Management on Android/Windows - moving from iPhone

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 06:33 AM PST

    Hello dear community,

so I transitioned from the Apple ecosystem 2 years ago.

Still, there is something driving me nuts that I just can't get my head around and don't know how android users deal with that: photo management.

On Apple I have iPhotos. I can sync my photos to my Mac wirelessly when home, and send it to an encrypted cloud for backup.
I get fully featured geomapping and face recognition without being forced to go for iCloud.

On Android I feel like the only way to have those features is with Google Photos - forcing me to have all my images on Google Drive.

So, how do you manage your photos?

How do you get features like "searching by location" or "face recognition" without exposing everything to the google cloud?

I have looked already into a few open source alteratives or QNAP based solutions - but they all seem to only provide those features in an Web-Interface in my local network, rather then in an app on the go.
(Solutions involving an server or qnap would be suitable to me as well).

Currently I am going the full-madness way of syncing Android Photos to my cloud space, from there down to an old MacMini, putting photos in iPhotos there, syncing them back over iTunes to my iPad so I can have suitable photo management there. Doesn't solve the problem on my Android phone, and also forces me to keep Apple devices I'd actually like to sell in favor of a surface.

Any tips, tricks, experiences, and workflows highly appreciated.

    Best Regards

Files downloaded via Gmail disappear after a month or so.

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 10:18 AM PST

This has happened on every Android I've had (as far as I can remember), and I've never used any sort of cleaning tool.

Files downloaded from Drive or websites last forever, but for some reason all of my mp3's I've downloaded from Gmail vanish after a month or so.

    Any ideas?

    Update ruined my international clock

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 10:05 AM PST

Thanks again android, yet another useless update that took away features in favor of ones that the higher ups apparently deemed more "appealing". I use international clocks on my always display on my s9+, because I have several friends in several countries and I like to keep an eye on the time so I know the best time to contact them. It used to be arranged in a very nice two by two display that showed all four time-zones in big bold numbers with the city name below. Now it's in an ugly row that is so tiny I can hardly read it without pulling the screen up close. I can't find any way to reverse or change this. Anyone have any advice?

    Resolution vs Framerate

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 09:57 AM PST

I am going to be getting the S20 Ultra and am wondering what everyone's opinion is on which they find more important:

    Resolution vs Framerate

I imagine the battery drain may be close to the same running at QHD+/60 vs 1080/120.

Which would you prefer and why? What are the upsides and downsides in your opinion? I am asking this because I am genuinely curious on a screen that size.

Now I know there are a lot of apps like apowermirror or vysor for this but I am looking for a wifi solution that dose not require usb debugging to be enabled. So I just wanted to check and see if there are any possible way to achieve what I want to do?

PS: I am using a Oneplus 3T that is running android 9 with the latest oxygen OS

Google Play Services is taking up more and more space and I don't know how to stop it. Can anyone help me limit the amount of storage space it's taking up?

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 05:59 AM PST

I have an LG G6 running Android 8.

I have a crap ton of music on my phone that's taking up a lot of my storage space so I've been freezing some up by routinely clearing the cache of some apps that build up a pretty big cache. This is working but every time I check Google Play Services, it's taking up more storage space. It's not a problem at the moment but not too long ago, it was only around 450 MB and not it's just over 600 MB. I'm worried that it's eventually going to take up enough space that clearing the cache of my apps won't work anymore to keep my storage space free. Does anyone know how to stop it from taking up more and more space?
