| Posted: 19 Jan 2020 09:21 AM PST Today I managed to fell into the sea with my Huawei Nova 5t in trousers pocket. I was there for like 5 seconds and when I got out the phone was alive for few seconds and then went K.O. I tried to dry it and now i have it on the counter near heater (It happend like 5 hours ago). I wanted to ask what should I do. The most reasonable option is probably to wait for like two days and try to charge it. But is it possible that even after this (should it fail) it might get repaired at the shop? Do you have experience with this? [link] [comments] |

As my new employer doesn't give out company phones I'm currently evaluating my options. My criteria are:
Since I'm a big fan of stock Android my first thought was the 3A. But I've seen it in real life and the huge bezels put me off a lot, and its hardware makes me think it'll get annoying to use quite quickly. Out of the available phones right now the Galaxy 10e seems to be most aligned with my wishes, but I'm not a fan of Samsung's phone design, bloatware and One UI. The best alternative imo is the 4A, but since not much is known yet about the 4A it is a bit of a longshot. Plus, if I want to go for the 4A I'd have to make do with an iPhone 6 (!) until May.. My question to you is; what would you do based on my preferences? tl;dr: Need a new phone asap, can't decide between 10e and pending and somewhat unknown 4A. [link] [comments] |
| Maintenance dude forgot to put back metal cover of both main ICs on LG V10 board Posted: 19 Jan 2020 10:15 AM PST Basically the phone was hot. I found some PC thermal paste but I was afraid of disassembling it. Took it to a dude who's known for being good. Temps from regular activity down from 50-65 C all the way to 31-35 with arctic mx-4, happy as a clam. Then the dreaded half-screen static error appeared (sadly not software, display, but the IC) Got angry and practically disassembled the phone in a few minutes (the appropriate incentive). I found the metal cover (heatsink?) had a cutout for the main IC which placed it in contact with the thermal pad on the opposite cover. But the other IC was exposed with paste. Called him and he said it was next to him at the shop floor. It wasn't necessary because he regularly discarded it from LG phones without complaints and that it provided some waterproofing (mainboard notwithstanding?) Am I at fault, overheating it through the paste (???), or the metal cover acts as a heatsink for the second IC and the uncirculating air made it overheat? Or it was just a serendipitous act of God? Posted: 19 Jan 2020 05:54 AM PST All Linux updates (except for the kernel updates) could be installed without the need of restarting the system and will be applied the next time an updated program is launched. Not every system update makes any changes to the kernel, so why is the reboot forced on the user, and more importantly, why does it take so much longer than a regular reboot? [link] [comments] |
| Bluetooh problems with new Google Pixel 3a. Posted: 19 Jan 2020 12:03 PM PST Hi. Recently got a google pixel 3a to replace my iphone 4s. When I was connecting it to the Bluetooth in my car, a Toyota Corolla 2015, I came across the issue that the Bluetooth wasn't connecting properly. Under the "Call History" tab, it does not display the name of my contacts, even though I have uploaded/connected/shared all of my contacts to the car. When someone calls, their name will display on the screen, and then their contact name will stay in the call history, but after a while it goes away. I contacted the google help support and even asked someone who has the google pixel 3 if they had the same issue, but it only seems to be me. I had no problem with this on my other phone. Posted: 19 Jan 2020 12:01 PM PST 5000+ songs in my iTunes library (Mac) which will quickly grow 1-2k in the next few months, what's the best or your favourite method of transferring music to your device. | Google Play Music Storage. Where to Put music? Posted: 19 Jan 2020 11:49 AM PST Where Are Podcasts and Music from my Google Play Music app stored? I checked Android-->data-->com.google.android.music-->cache/files and its empty despite having Podcasts downloaded. I have some Music on my PC I wanted to upload and I copied it into those folders on my Phone. When I access that path using my file manager app the music file is there but It does not show up in Google Music app, why? Why are my podcasts that are in Google play Music not show up in the folder but the music in my folder not show up in the App? If I remember correctly this used to work on my old phone. | Posted: 19 Jan 2020 11:25 AM PST So, I have a file folder with a lot of pictures from my recently bought phone and it says that the size on my computer's disk for this folder is 6 GBs. However, the size of the file folder is 18 TBs! I do not remember what happened with the file folder but I do not have so much space on my phone... (obviously xD). Also, I can not move this folder because the size is HUGE AND... the worst part is I can't even see the pictures as according to my computer it does not support this file format... Any ideas? In normal phones with ips screen, when i use an app from the playstore, it dims the screen but the screen is still on which swallows a lot of battery. It was supposed to be an American version but it turned out to be a chinese one. However I can still see google play services in setting-apps.. and other google apps such google calendar, services for AR, contact...etc. The only thing that I cannot find is the Google Play store.. When I try to download an apk of it, it says " Do you want to install an update to this built-in application? Your existing data will not be lost. It does not require any special access." Which leads me to believe that google play store is there, just not visible. Is there anyway to access it? | Pixel 3 unable to connect to WiFi or Internet after Jan 2020 update Posted: 19 Jan 2020 02:01 AM PST Hello, I have a Pixel 3 that has been working great up until 2 days ago, when the most recent Android 10 update was released: 10.0.0 (QQ1A.200105.003, Jan 2020, TMO/Fi) The problem is that the phone lost it's ability to connect to internet in any way, both WiFi and mobile data. I have tried the following trouble shooting steps: I have not been able to find any threads for this problem specifically, so to me it seems very likely this is just a hardware issue and that I am the unlucky one to experience it :/ I have ordered a replacement phone, but it won't come until next week so I'm wondering if anyone has any other ideas on how to troubleshoot this problem. | Does hotspoting kill my phone? Posted: 18 Jan 2020 03:34 PM PST I have a charging dock where I keep my phone during the day (the phone is plugged in via Type C, it's not wirelessly charging). My wired internet was garbage lately, it's cutting in and out, so I started using my phone as a hotspot with my computer. I have unlimited 4G (it's like 20EUR a month) and it's not that much slower than my cable internet. I have been doing this for a week now, I see no harm, battery life seems fine, the phone does not feel hot when hotspoting. Does this hurt my phone in the long run? It's a 1+ 5T. I know I could tether via cable, but that's a pain because sometimes I have to grab my phone to take a call, check a notification, take my phone to the bathroom, etc, and I don't want to lose connection. Posted: 19 Jan 2020 09:02 AM PST I'm heavily leaning towards one of those two phones (probably the Pro, for the pop up camera, as dumb as that sounds lol. I think it's cool), unless the 4a blows me away this May. The thing I'm worried about is getting the cell service to work in the US. I live in a moderately remote area, mountain town of about 15k people. I currently use at&t and the service is pretty alright on my S8. My SO uses a Pixel 3a on Google Fi, and it's utterly spectacular. I'd like to use the OnePlus with one of those, but I know that since it isn't a Pixel, it can't do the dynamic network switching. On top of that, I'm nervous about purchasing a phone designed for another country, because I don't know much about cell bands or anything like that. | Problems with recording and playing sound Posted: 19 Jan 2020 04:39 AM PST I have a Sony Experia zx2 compact and for over a week or so I have problems with sound and recording. It started with instagram recording barely any sound when i try to send voicememos, however the recepient always says they can hear me clearly. Then I noticed the same problem with whatsapp. I haven't noticed this problem when I call someone. When I play my own memos they sound really soft, when I play music it seems to work properly. However, when i play music, it seems that it changes to a different setting a few seconds after the music starts playing. Similar to how your phone prioritizes notification sounds when they play simultaniously with music. Except, there is no notification, but the sound seems to amplify after that. Is anyone familiar with this problem or has any tips on how to fix it? [link] [comments] |

And apparently, the ISPs, Providers, Carriers, (Comcast/Xfinity and Verizon) have not been helpful. I HAVE SCREENSHOTS There is something called Moto mods listed as a Connected Device in my settings, but I've never heard of them. I think it's something physical that you have to attach to your phone to make it act like a projector. There are three main icons in my tray that I don't recognize, and cannot manipulate. I don't think I am admin for my phone. I didn't know this, but Comcast/Xfinity is not responsible for the security of their own network. It's weird. Who is responsible? [link] [comments] |
| Unknown notification and strange occurrence with my phone Posted: 19 Jan 2020 07:19 AM PST Something weird happened with my phone and I was wondering if there's an explanation for it. I was driving, and using Google maps. Then out of nowhere, I see this notification that I believe was just a perfect circle. Then my phone (it's a Motorola phone) did the same thing or a very similar thing to when I take a screenshot. Basically the screen shrinks a little and a box appears around it. I also believe i heard a "bling" sound that may have been the same sound you hear when you open Google Assistant, although I'm not sure because oddly enough when I open it now it doesn't make that sound, so maybe I'm thinking of some other sound. The circle notification went away before I could check what it was coming from / what it was for. Is there an explanation for all those things (weird unknown notification, screen changing as if it's taking a screenshot, and the sound) or is it reasonable to be pretty creeped out at this?? | Samsung Tab S3 (T-820) FRP locked. Posted: 19 Jan 2020 06:38 AM PST Okay, so I just got a tablet from my grandma. It was from my grandpa (who died) and I got to keep it. It's really nice, but there's an FRP lock on it. Seeing as we don't have any info about my grandpa's password or e-mail he used for this device, we can't do shit. I tried flashing a custom ROM, which worked fine! Except I didn't know what I was doing, so I just thought it already removed the FRP lock automatically. It didn't. But now, I can't get the custom ROM back on to the device anymore. It keeps throwing eMMc write fails, SW REV CHECK FAILS and more. All of these fails do include "aboot" in the name.
