Posted: 08 Jan 2020 08:50 AM PST Is there really no way to prevent your number from being added to group chats? My family keeps adding me to group chats with about 20 people in them. They all text nonstop all day about nonsense. I mute the chats but I still get notifications on my headphones and watch. I don't wanna turn off all notifications on those devices for messages but it seems it's one or the other, all of none. I asked my family to stop adding my girlfriend and I to the groups and they got very upset with me and refused. Ridiculous, I know. I can't figure out how to prevent all group chats with my number. Is it even possible? If not, how is it 2020 and there's not a method to prevent all group chats? I have no interest in having a group chat with anyone, ever. It's driving my crazy. Id really prefer to not change my number because I have clients and coworkers that have it. Really don't wanna go through messages everyone with a new number. I will of that's the only way though. Unfortunately, if I have to change my number that means I can't give it to them because I'll end up with the same issue. That would lead to more issues with my family of course. It seems really bizarre that you can't block you number from being added to a group chat like that. [link] [comments] |
I keep getting "Update Google Play Services" notification that doesn't do anything. Posted: 08 Jan 2020 11:33 AM PST Pixel 2XL, running stock Android 10, latest patch. Every few days, I keep getting this notification from Google Play Store -
When I tap the notification, it takes me to the play store page of Google Play Services, with a wide "deactivate" green button. There's no pending update. I haven't joined the beta program of this app, so there's a "Join the beta" section further down the page. Google Play Store works fine/normally nonetheless. But this useless/misleading notification is getting very annoying. Anyone else? [link] [comments] |

Is there any Noise cancelation feature trick for Android Posted: 08 Jan 2020 12:46 PM PST Recently I found a simple trick to reduce background noise in Linux. You just need to add few lines of code in a file and it really works. My audio quality is much better. Is there any Android app or a way to automatically reduce background noise while recording audio or a video. [link] [comments] |
Stuck on G/E internet after being underground or any other place with poor reception Posted: 08 Jan 2020 09:23 AM PST So sometimes when I'm in an underground car park, or floors that are underground, my phone drops 4g internet and swaps to G/E (whatever is available), understandable, not much I can do about it, but when I get back to places with reception, it remains stuck on G or E. I either have to restart my phone which always works, or turn aeroplane mode on and off which sometimes works. Are there any connection settings I can play with that will more reliably reconnect to be 4g? Or better yet, do it automatically? I have a note 10+,running Android 10. Thank for your help. :) [link] [comments] |
Notifications won't wake up device? Posted: 08 Jan 2020 07:51 AM PST So I recently upgraded from an old Motorola E4 to a Moto G7 Power running Android 9 (sidenote: love the phone, highly recommend it) But ever since upgrading it seems the option for apps to have notifications that wake up my phone screen have disappeared (mainly Discord). Not the worst thing in the world but I enjoyed being able to see if I have a notification instead of depending on the sound of vibration. I've checked in my device settings but haven't found anything that works yet. Hoping I can get a solution finally [link] [comments] |

Posted: 08 Jan 2020 06:37 AM PST I'm having trouble with my android. I keep getting EAs even after turning them off. It keeps saying Its from JO and JP and J, I can't stop it. Even after I restarted my phone. [link] [comments] |
Can you auto ignore calls outside of contact list Posted: 08 Jan 2020 10:12 AM PST Hi all, I was curious if theres an option to auto ignore calls from unsaved numbers. Not block, but ignore allowing them to leave a message, and number appear in my recent calls list (I'm okay if it doesnt show in the list but they can still leave a voicemail). I ignore calls that I havent saved anyway, and block if they dont leave a message, but its annoying for my phone to vibrate or short ringing saying that ive purposely ignored them. This is to prevent against spam callers rotating numbers. Thanks [link] [comments] |

Android File Transfer issues with S9+ Posted: 08 Jan 2020 01:23 PM PST Have a Samsung Galaxy S9+ (personal) and a MacBook Pro I got from my college. I have an unlimited data plan with no hotspot support, so I download large files on my data with my S9+ and transfer them via USB to my MacBook that I need for my classes. I recently have been having larger than normal files (around 2+ GB) and when I try to transfer them to my desktop on my MacBook Android File Transfer freezes and I end up needing to force quit or even restart my MacBook to resolve the issue. Anyone know a fix or an alternative freeware that I can transfer files between my S9+ and MacBook? [link] [comments] |
Text message user contact shows as multiple phone numbers Posted: 08 Jan 2020 09:15 AM PST Very weird... Galaxy s7, Messages text app. One of my contacts has recently began showing up as 3 phone numbers separated by a semicolon in my text app. If I look at messages between myself and this person, their name does not show at the top, but instead it shows 3 phone numbers like this: 1234567892;1234567893;1234567894 (not the real phone numbers obv.) and I cant respond to that text string (no text box at bottom). If I go in to my text messaging app, and act like I am sending a new message to this person, select them from my contacts, it works just fine and adds to that string of messages. Also, group messages with that individual have that same string of numbers in place of that user, and when I respond to that group, they do not receive the message. I have attempted to remove the user from my contacts and add them back. Tried clearing cache and reboot. Thoughts? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 08 Jan 2020 12:05 PM PST I was invited into a group chat with 3 other Verizon users, we all have Android phones - but they all use the official (God awful) Verizon Message+ app and I'm using Pixel's default (Google) texting app, which I really like so far. Problem is... When I first was invited into the group text, it worked - kind of. I got text messages and stuff, but instead of replacing the phone numbers that prefixed the messages, it'd just show the phone numbers. So I asked them what they used, and downloaded the Verizon texting app and switched to that - I could see avatars, the background picture, it read my contact info for each user correctly, etc.. But the app is terrible, I mean a truly god awful piece of garbage - you can't even save images to your phone, just to "Verizon". Anyways, rant aside - I switched back to Google's texting app and now I'm not getting any messages in the group text - and I asked in person, they're still sending messages, they're just not coming through for me. So my main question is: How do I fix not receiving group texts anymore? I tried deleting cache + data for the google texting app like I saw being recommended, but that didn't fix it. I really don't want to switch back to the Verizon message+ app if I can help it because it really is terrible. Any help would be appreciated. I'd even accept another texting app suggestion if it has feature parity with the google app, I just want to do everything I can to avoid Verizon's app. [link] [comments] |
disturbing crackling noise plays in the background but only for specific applications Posted: 08 Jan 2020 12:55 AM PST i have a nokia 7.1 that i bought in October of 2019.. the problem I'm detailing now has been from around late November. when i play a sound from a third party source, like a mobile game, i hear a crackling sound in the background. raising the volume increases the amount of sound, and decreasing the volume reduces it. however, i have no such problem while playing sounds from YouTube or Play Music. the strangest thing is when i play audio from Chrome or Brave browser for YouTube, i don't hear any crackling sound. but when i played audio from SoundCloud on the same browser i would still hear the sound just for information, this sound isn't present during calling, and doesn't play in reddit either problem persists with or without headphones, and restarting the phone (numerous times) has had no impact [link] [comments] |

Any way to add a lock before any install? Posted: 08 Jan 2020 11:13 AM PST I'm looking for a way to require authentication before installing any apk. Windows/Linux have this functionality before install, any way to enable/add it for Android? The play store restriction isn't really sufficient.. It doesn't block free apps or downloaded apks. Since I mean to use it for security, that's not ideal. Anyone know anything that might work for this? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Jan 2020 11:00 AM PST What's up guys? I have a OnePlus 7pro and when using smart lock before Android 10 I could have smart lock on for a Bluetooth device and I could tap the pad lock at the top of the screen and it would lock the phone. Now I cannot quick lock the phone with this. I've tried tapping it, holding it but it won't lock the phone without going into settings and turning off smart lock. Anyone else have this issue? Grant access to only certain app during daytime/schooltime Posted: 08 Jan 2020 09:47 AM PST I would like to grant my son to use his phone during daytime at school to listen music over spotify, however I don't want that he has the ability to use other app like YouTube and games app. Any way that we can block app access base on time of the day. Google family link does seem to have the ability to block/hide app but not base on schedule. Any idea/ clue on how this can be done? [link] [comments] |
Apps still installed but icons missing after updating to 10.0? Posted: 08 Jan 2020 08:16 AM PST My s10+ updated to Android 10.0 and now several of my apps are missing from the apps screen. They're still installed, I can search for them via Finder and they also still show up on the new Suggested Apps list in finder, but that is the only way to open them currently. Any ideas? It's just random apps such as Clock, Facebook, Spotify, reddit is fun, and I'm stumped. [link] [comments] |
Problems receiving notifications? [Galaxy a10e] Posted: 07 Jan 2020 10:26 PM PST Recently I had to switch from an iPhone to an Android since I desperately needed a new phone and the only one I could afford was the a10e. I'm not happy with the phone at all, but maybe you can help me with one of the issues I'm having. The majority of the time my phone won't send me notifications for text messages, instagram, or Snapchat. And yes my notification settings are turned on for each of those apps. I know that my phone is capable of sending them, because sometimes it will. It just chooses not to. It's driving me insane and my friends and family members are getting irritated thinking I'm ignoring texts and I'm getting irritated because I keep missing important information. Any ideas how I can fix this? [link] [comments] |
