Sunday Rant/Rage (Dec 01 2019) - Your weekly complaint thread!

    Posted: 01 Dec 2019 03:13 AM PST

Note 1. Join our IRC, and Telegram chat-rooms! Please see our wiki for instructions.

This weekly Sunday thread is for you to let off some steam and speak out about whatever complaint you might have about:

    • Your device.

    • Your carrier.

    • Your device's manufacturer.

    • An app

    • Any other company

    Rules

    1) Please do not target any individuals or try to name/shame any individual. If you hate Google/Samsung/HTC etc. for one thing that is fine, but do not be rude to an individual app developer.

    2) If you have a suggestion to solve another user's issue, please leave a comment but be sure it's constructive! We do not want any flame-wars.

    3) Be respectful of other's opinions. Even if you feel that somebody is "wrong" you don't have to go out of your way to prove them wrong. Disagree politely, and move on.

With all of Google's experience with AI and machine learning, you'd think they would make the best predictive text system

    Posted: 30 Nov 2019 09:59 AM PST

Title. It's a shame Gboard has such awful predictive text, but the competitors aren't much better. I still can't believe it's almost 2020 and my keyboard software is actively suggesting non-words in my predictive text options like I actually might have meant to type them. Moreso, you'd think there would be an AI algorithm that would detect when you delete a word because it's not what you wanted, see what you settled on, and then autocorrect to that word in the future the next time your bumbling thumbs landed on those wrong parts of the keyboard again.

Ongoing List of Google Assistant Integrated Headphones/Earbuds

    Posted: 01 Dec 2019 03:14 AM PST

I've been in the market for a pair of headphones and made having Google Assistant integration (i.e. press and hold to talk to the assistant and proactive notifications in the headphones) a must. The problem is that it's hard to find a solid list of all our current options especially since some of the ones I've found have Google Assistant supported (i.e. long press like on the phone without notification reading features) headphones mixed with the integrated ones. So I decided to attempt to make a list based on my own research and compiling other good partial lists out there. Please let me know if I'm wrong about any of these or if you have a device to add to the list. I hope this might be of use to others on the search.

So you like Nova. What does it has that others can't match yet?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2019 02:36 AM PST

To me, it's icons. I always try a lot of different launchers, but every single time I end coming back to Nova thanks to the way it treats icons. This launcher has its way to get them right, 90% of the time: the adaptative icons look as they were meant to be round for some reason, the normalization keeps every ones size in check, the grid configuration allows me to pack the with just the right density, and having a "floaty" dock makes all look even better.

    And you?
