| Android 8.1 (Moto G5), how to restore backed up apps? Posted: 22 Dec 2019 06:38 AM PST Trying to help a family member that accidentially deleted a whole bunch of apps. The user used the "Free up space" feature, thinking this would merely clear the cache of the selected apps, not delete them from the phone completely. After selecting a majority of the apps in the list, the end result is that a lot of frequently used apps (social media apps, banking apps and more) were uninstalled from the phone. Luckily automatic backup is turned on and apps have been backed up. None of us can figure out how to restore them though. Nowadays I'm an Android user too (came from Windows Phone where I did restores a couple of times), but I've never have to do this myself on Android and I can't seem to figure out how to do it. I've tried googling for a solution but cant find anything useful, all the results are about restoring app backups when switching to a new phone or after a factory reset. What we are looking for is the way to restore all the apps to how it was 24 hours ago, without losing anything. Anyone that can help us out? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 22 Dec 2019 06:42 AM PST For example, trying to play music with VLC, say the command "Play <Artist or Song> with VLC" doesn't load VLC, it insists on trying to play something from YouTube or Google Music (And not the local version of the song on my phone, a streamed version). I've tried every way I can think of to phrase it, including the above which is supposed to be the correct phrase as far as I know. This is my most recent attempt, but I've had it happen with various other apps that I know support voice commands, if it's a command that works with a Google App Android only seems to want to pass the commands to Google Apps. Symptoms:
I briefly saw an SSL/TLS error on the Notifications Center yesterday. I've previously seen issues with SSL/TLS (NET::ERRCERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID) under Chrome for several sites. If older Android isn't getting newer CA cert lists, that _might be an issue. That's a wild-ass guess on my part as there's no further debug or diagnostic information I can find. I've followed the recommended steps of force-killing and clearing cache of Google Play Services and Google Play, as well as rebooting, and downgrading Google Play to original version, all with no success. None of the earlier posts here matching "Waiting for download" offer any viable solutions. Currently over 20 apps waiting on updates. New app installs also fail similarly. ADB commands work fine, but when I boot into Download mode (I have a Samsung Galaxy and as I understand it, download mode is fastboot mode for the samsung. Correct me if I am wrong) I try to erase the system via fastboot (I know there are other ways as well, but I am flashing an image without TWRP in an attempt to get a GSI working.) Most HDMI dongles I found in the local market either don't work or need an app of some sort. I can unlock the device just fine, so that part isn't an issue, but getting some data out and some authenticators' codes would be very helpful. As it is, it only seems to updated shared location every 5 minutes. I thought I saw someone with an iPhone, where Google maps updated their location in real time, you could see their dot moving down the road, stopping at lights, etc... | Posted: 22 Dec 2019 08:44 AM PST I installed an SD for external storage for videos- I set up both Camera app and Open Camera apps to store files on the SD card; I haven't done so for any other app. When I go to file manager -> Storage Info -> External Storage it shows 6 GB of "Other" files. The only other thing on the SD is a 3.5 gb video file from the Open Camera App. When I explore the files of the SD the only other folder with any files is /External Storage/Android/data: it seems filled with cache stuff (I don't know why) but it says the size is only 57 bytes. So I don't know where the 6 GBs of "other" is stored, nor do I know how it got there. My only guess is that it is ancillary files from the video or Open Camera, but no files show up anywhere. | Posted: 22 Dec 2019 08:42 AM PST I might be moving from a Xiaomi phone to a Huawei one soon. The following I found most annoying things in MIUI(latest version) so I want to know how many of these things I am going to experience in EMUI too.
Furthermore as I understand both of these skins have very aggressive battery management. MIUI does allow me to whitelist apps to exclude from that. Does Huawei offer this option too? Lastly I read somewhere that you can't reply on a lock screen notification in EMUI? Is that still the case with the latest version? [link] [comments] |

Google search seems to indicate that it's a Verizon number and may be related to their back up service. It's an LG V20 which initially was purchased through Verizon but I ported to MintMobile a year ago, so I no longer have a Verizon account. Not sure why this would start popping up after a year, so I did a Malwarebytes scan and ran SD Maid Pro with clean results. Is there a service I need to disable? Everytime i try to turn on my phone it gets stuck on the M logo and it restarts, then goes back at the M logo, then restarts. and it keeps constantly doing this. i tried soft resetting it a lot of times, i tried going to the fastboot menu and wiping cache partition but nothing happened. I would do a factory reset or a hard reset but the problem is that there are a lot of files that i didn't backup to the cloud, and that i have exclusively on my phone. I can't enter safe mode because apparently you must have the phone turned on and then turn it off to go to safe mode, and i think that the "holding the volume down to go to safe mode" method wasn't implemented on this specific generation (maybe it was from moto g4 onwards? i don't really know) Now the thing is: if i could just get the phone to properly turn on once, or even find a way to see all of its files on the pc and make a backup i could easily do the hard reset/factory reset without any problem. But i can't cuz the phone won't turn on. And i don't want to lose those files. I can't see the data from my phone on my pc because you can only do data transfer with the phone turned on. I can't even see what's in my SD CARD because it got encrypted when i configured it to be used as extra internal memory. It feels like i can't do anything. Is there anything i can do? On my 5, I could scroll through all my home screens by going one direction and it would loop around to the start, ie I could infinitely swipe in one direction. Yesterday in train I had the stupid idea of setting up this additional pin code which you have to enter for Android to boot and decrypt your mobile phone. Without entering it, your mobile is encrypted and you can't access it. No idea why I would do this in train without writing down the pin code... Today I restarted my mobile phone and found out the pin code I remember isn't the correct code. I've tried a lot of combinations and now I have 3 left before my "mobile gets wiped". Unfortunately I only have backups of about 75% of the data. Luckily, the most important data is backuped, but a lot will still be gone. I can't really remember when they stopped working, but ever since I couldn't get them back. I have a Galaxy S10e running Android 10, I have constantly restarted the phone, cleared cache, resetted my advertising ID. I have no ad blocker or VPN running on the phone. I honestly have no more ideas regarding this. It seems to happen regardless of the game, even when I opt in personalized ads (I thought this might have been an issue, but it seems it's not).
