Learning material for crazy UI animations?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2019 02:35 AM PST

Before you downvote, look at this: https://www.instagram.com/p/B1fdLzwgsfY/

Take a look at that guys profile and all the animations. I'm just curious if there's any learning material for creating UI animations and transitions like that on Android? I'd really love to learn something like that.

Transitions in my app suck so bad that I feel like people might have seizures after looking at them.

Should I make an update to my old app?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2019 05:26 AM PST

I have an old app which was my first app uploaded to Google Play somewhere in 2014. It's a simple flashlight app. I didn't touch it since 2014.

Now I would like to make an update to fix things but I'm afraid when I do, then Google will suspend it because of repetitive content and also maybe terminate my account because of 3 strikes then.

This app is not popular and the risk is probably not worth it, but I would like to make my Google Play account pure without apps not working in new android versions.

There is also option to unpublish this app. What would you do?

    Christmas Libs

    Posted: 30 Nov 2019 03:31 AM PST

    Dear Devs,

Every year I make my SO an app around Christmas. I've done a treasure hunt, an advent calendar, a little game on Unity, and this year I'm doing a 12 days of Christmas thing.

I've been looking for any quick win libraries that I can chuck in to make the thing feel a bit more fun and tacky and overall Christmassy, but I've not been able to find anything.

Does anyone know of any libs that have snow effects, or Santa swipes, or.... well... anything really. The more I throw at it the better.

Thanks for your help and kind regards (I'll hold off wishing y'all Merry Xmas for now as it' still November),

Learn the basic via tutorials or learn the basics while making your final product?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 06:20 PM PST

I've been following a bunch of tutorials on how to create android apps. I feel like while I can do individual things I have a hard time connecting how everything works together. Is this something that comes with experience? I feel like if I started working on what I want to make right now it will be more of a mess then if I get the experience with other apps first and work on it in a couple months(I've only been at this for a week)? Thoughts?

Important Consideration to Keep in Mind! How to Reduce the Cost of Mobile App Development?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2019 02:24 AM PST

Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 10:13 AM PST

I have 3 years of experience in Android development with few months in flutter. I work at a pretty cool service based company (Taking money to build software for others).

Right now I want to switch to front-end development and later also want to spend some months on Spring boot doing back end development with hands on AWS and hosting. I will also be doing Android parallelly but only on demand or in time/resource crunch.

I the next 2 years I want to mark my online presence by writing blogs, tutorials and building strong online portfolio which will then help me to secure remote job and mentoring some small or mid sized company build their tech stack.

I want to work remote because the kind of lifestyle I want to live in is too costly here in big tier-1 cities. Moreover these cities will become more congested in coming years. I want to shift to my tier-3 city with a quiet environment and living quality life there. In terms of business there is also a lot of opportunity by helping traditional shops come online and use softwares to help them expand and manage their business.

Any suggestions to keep in mind while working on this?

Please share what do you have in mind for the next few years?

Can I use Patreon to Unlock In-App Purchases?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 01:49 PM PST

I have a Patreon and I would like to offer my subscribers access to in-app features. I am thinking to offer promo codes, then they can use those promo codes to unlock stuff within the app. But due to Google Play's policy, I'm assuming that this is not allowed? Would it be possible to just not tell users within the app about the Patreon and still offer this on the Patreon itself?

Lightweight Dictionary / Vocabulary app made in Flutter, Google's newest framework. Wanted something minimalist enough to quickly search stuff. Enjoy!

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 03:51 PM PST

    Google Play Store

    Github

Feedback appreciated. This is my second app published to Google Play.

I've made it since I wanted a quick dictionary to search words in English and also store them in a vocabulary, as English is not my first language.

I must say that Flutter is pretty amazing. I've been working in it the last few months and I'm having a blast. I plan to add word prediction. Thoughts? Thanks.

App Suspended - Google falsely claims my dropshipping app promises users cash payouts

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 03:48 AM PST

On the 27th of November my app was suspended for Deceptive Behaviour. I submitted an appeal and I was at least hoping to get a legitimate reason for the suspension, instead, I got a reply claiming my app offers something that there's no mention of in my app or it's listing. The app is still suspended after submitting the appeal and after 4 of their replies that don't make sense at all.

    About the app

The app is a dropshipping business in the shopping category. For those of you who don't know how it works - user orders an item on our app, we order the item from the supplier, the item gets shipped to the customer who ordered the item.

The app was generating $5500 of profit per month and had 150k installs, the main traffic source was Google Play, without which, my whole business strategy fails.

    Google's reason for suspension

The app was suspended for Deceptive Behaviour. After my appeal, they said the app still violates the Google Play Policy and claimed that my app 'currently promises cash payout without any links/information that show the legitimacy of the app'.

The app is a dropshipping business - a shop, how could it offer users a cash payout? There is NOTHING indicating such a thing anywhere in the app's listing on Google Play, nor the app itself. The listing and the app don't even include words 'cash', or 'payout'.

It's literally like accusing a shop of PAYING THEIR CUSTOMERS.

I tried explaining them this in our conversation, but It feels like they didn't even read the emails. In one of the emails they actually sent me a piece of text which seems to be related to a copyright related issue.

    Our conversation

I have cut some of their messages short, because we all know their template replies.

With this first email they gave me a reason for the suspension of my app.

    Hi Developer,

Thanks for contacting the Google Play team.

Status of app: Suspended from Google Play due to policy violation

I've reviewed your appeal request and found that your app still violates Google Play Policy.

During review, we found that your app violates the Deceptive Behavior policy:

We don't allow apps that attempt to deceive users. Apps must provide accurate disclosure of their functionality and should perform as reasonably expected by the user.

Apps must not attempt to mimic functionality or warnings from the operating system or other apps. Any changes to device settings must be made with the user's knowledge and consent and be easily reversible by the user.

You can read through the Deceptive Behavior policy page for more details and examples of common violations.

For example, your app currently promises cash payout without any links/information that show the legitimacy of the app.

    My reply:

    Hello,

Thanks for your reply. The example you have given is not correct, as we do not promise cash or pay out cash in our app. Nowhere does it say anything about a cash payout, not in the description, not in the short description, the title or the app itself.

Could this suspension be made in error or my app mixed up with another app?

As I cannot find anything relating to cash payouts within the app and it's Google Play Store listing, could you please guide me to where you have found this example?

As far as the legitimacy of the app goes when referencing the physical items we offer - items ordered can be found within the app in the 'My Orders' page, also, there are plenty of reviews confirming that users have received the items, if Google Play requires any proof of the items that are sent to users I can provide invoices of the bought items that are sent to the users of the app who ordered them (without including any of the personal user data). If needed I can provide the company's bank statement.

Could you please look into this?

    Thank you

    Google Play:

    Hi Developer,

Thanks again for contacting Google Play Developer Support.

As much as I'd like to help, I'm not able to provide any more information or a better answer to your question. In our previous email, I made sure to include all the information available to me.

    Me:

    Hi,

I would kindly ask you to review my appeal again as I feel that my previous message was ignored. The example you have given claims that my app promises users cash payouts, even though there is nothing even remotely related to that or any promise of money to our users. The app is used by thousands of people and thousands of people received the physical items they've ordered. We did not make any false claims. I believe you have wrongly suspended the app and were wrongly accused of 'promising users a cash payout' without us actually doing that. This suspension would take my livelihood away, ruin my company and would possibly cause financial issues.

This situation is frustrating as I fell that I've been getting responses from bots instead of someone actually looking into my query.

Could someone actually look into this and get back to me? As I have a responsibility to my app users.

    Thank you

Their next reply frustrated me the most, they simply pasted their previous reply, the 'For example' reason and included something that's completely unrelated and doesn't even make sense:

We advise you to provide verifiable documentation proving that you have permission or An email by adding CC, in reply to this thread or documentation of copyrighted content with the following examples: distribution agreement, authorization contract, website domain ownership information, etc.

    Me:

    Hi,

The reply you have given me does not make sense, because it looks like you are referring to an issue that is related to copyrighted content, which I don't use within my app. My app wasn't even suspended for copyrighted content. Please give me a valid reply to my query as none of the emails actually answered any of my questions and it still hasn't referred to the issue where I was wrongly accused of 'promising users cash payouts', which my app has nothing to do with.

Please look into the issue as soon as possible as this is threatening my company and affecting users.
    Thank you

Then they replied with the same text as before, but HIGHLIGHTED this:

For example, your app currently promises cash payout without any links/information that show the legitimacy of the app

I have since then replied to them again, asking them to review my app manually, as only then they would see where I'm coming from.

I'm not sure if there's anything else I can do about this, as they just keep ignoring my request. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Question about locked bootloaders

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 01:00 PM PST

From my understanding with a locked bootloader it checks the boot images signature and if the signature is correct it will move on to the next stage of booting. I also have some understanding of private and public keys I have a few questions though 1. How would you go about getting the public key of a device? 2.What exactly does the private key encrypt (is it the hash of something)? 3. Is it technically possible to bruteforce to get the private key so people can sign software for locked bootloader devices?

Are u able to make emulator with older API (like API 19) to play sound?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 09:42 AM PST

I tend to test sound feature in emulator with old API (API 19)

However, the resulting sound pretty broken, unbearable to hear till you need to turn off the emulator

There are no issue for emulator with newer API like API 28

I was wondering, are you facing the same problem as I do? How do you able to make emulator with API 19 to play sound properly?

    Thanks.

Is enrolling into an Android development course worth the time and money?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 09:36 AM PST

    Hi all!

I'm rather new to Android development and recently I've been on the search for courses to take near where I live. Well, I found one, went there, got some additional info, and now I would like to hear what you guys have to say about it.

    The course includes: Java with the use of Eclipse and Android SDK; User interface development; Basic widgets and user interface elements; Introduction to working with databases; Network and system programming; Client-server solutions; Network protocols; Graphics and animation; Publishing an application on Google Play;

The course goes on for about a year, and they give you the option to either pay for the entire year ($1,165), a term ($648) or after each month ($118).

Is this going to be worth it or should I just look for an online course?

    Thank you in advance.

    Does retrofit use coroutines internally?

    Posted: 28 Nov 2019 10:57 PM PST

Forgive my ignorance but it seems to me that retrofit (2.6) still uses threads internally while converting the callbacks to coroutines using Continuation (such as in awaitResponse). I was looking at some of the recent commits, there seems to be some low level coroutines implementation.
I'm a bit confused, can someone expound further?
