Any Updates For Xiaomi Mi Box S?

We bought our Xiaomi Mi Box S a few months ago and I was disappointed cause a month later, The Mi Stick 4K was announced and it has a newer version of Android TV which is Android TV 11 and has support for Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. But it was fine, it's just I feel like Xiaomi doesn't care about the 2018 Mi Box S anymore even tho the Mi Box S is still on Xiaomi's Website in the TV section. The Xiaomi Mi Box S is still running on Android TV 9 originally running Android TV 8.1.

    Update android 7 to latest?

    Posted: 16 May 2022 01:55 AM PDT

So I got a Sarason android smart tv it runs android 7.1 I believe.

Seems to be a custom build but not sure. Can I just update this tv with a usb stick and the latest android tv ?

I checked for OTA updates but I guess they disabled that.

Would I brick my tv ? I just don't see what is so custom on this tv that it needs a special build.

True 4k from playing in app running 1920x1280 Android?

    Posted: 15 May 2022 03:36 PM PDT

I have a 4k projector, however, the OS resolution is 1920x1280. If I play a movie in an app running on the projector is it possible to get 4k resolution?

I tested this a lot. Using the Jellyfin app (it's like Plex) running on the projector itself, 4k movies look as good or better than playing from a PC that is 4k connected via HDMI.

Any Android box that allows us to watch Netflix, Prime etc in 4K SDR?

    Posted: 15 May 2022 06:31 AM PDT

okay so I don't know how to put this in words so I hope someone can understand me lmao.

I just bought Xbox series s and when I turn off the HDR I can watch the 4K stuffs on Netflix, Prime and Apple TV+ in 4K SDR. The hdr on my tv is terrible and when I turn it off on my mi box s, it still play the 4K hdr files. So I'm wondering, is there any android tv box that can do what the Xbox did? Like when I turn off hdr, it will change the 4K hdr files to 4K sdr?

    anything better than chomecast

    Posted: 15 May 2022 05:13 AM PDT

Is there something better than chomecast with better memory? The problem I have is I can't put all the apps or channels I want without it saying there is no space left without deleting other apps.

Xiaomi Mi TV Stick 4k vs. Mi Box s

    Posted: 15 May 2022 03:03 AM PDT

I'm stuck in a choice between these two "boxes". The Mi Box seems more robust and even has a USB port so I can use a mouse when needed. But the Mi Stick 4k has a newer android 11 os running it instead of the android 8 in the Mi Box.

Does the android version make any difference between the two? I won't require any portability.

(nvidia shield tv pro) has anyone tried streaming 3d videos that are not anaglyph and have it split into two screens instead of 3d?

    Posted: 15 May 2022 02:49 AM PDT

title. I've been wanting to watch some 3d videos on youtube and I've noticed that when it's not the typical cyan/red 3d it splits in two. the problem is that I can't figure out whether it is the nvidia that doesn't support 3d or something else. has anyone else had a similar problem?

nvidia shield tv(tube): If I don't have the official remote, am I screwed if I do a factory reset?

    Posted: 14 May 2022 10:47 PM PDT

I got a used shield tube. Didn't come with a remote. Whoever previously owned it still has their google account on it. The psu was bad. I fixed it within a hr after getting it in the mail.

I was able to connect my cell with the remote app. I couldn't figure out how to connect to wifi. Seems to instantly disable wifi when using wired. And when I disconnect the ethernet cable, lose connection to shield in my remote app.

Got annoyed & shut it off for the day. I was wanting to factory reset it but after watching some vids, seems like the official remote or controller is required to continue in the setup process. But I could be wrong.

Really don't want to waste $30-50 on a remote just to finish the setup. I plan on mainly using my cell & xbox series controller.

How to have my TV turn on HDMI?

    Posted: 15 May 2022 05:59 AM PDT

Minor inconvenience, but any time I turn my TV on it defaults to the Google TV screen instead of opening the hdmi that was most recently on.

Is there a way to get this menu to go away and just have my TV open to my hdmi?

    Mecool KM3 Audio Issue

    Posted: 14 May 2022 09:04 PM PDT

I have been experiencing audio issues on my Mecool KM3. At one time I did not have these issues.

    1. I have no sound when trying to watch a movie on Movies Anywhere or Vudu

    2. I have no sound on NBC or Fox when using Sling TV.

These issue have to be with my device but I'll be damned if I can figure out the issue.

Anyone else suffering from this issue?

Looking for a better GoogleTV set

    Posted: 14 May 2022 12:51 PM PDT

Currently,I have a Sony Bravia XBR-55X700D with GoogleTV. This TV is pretty slow to navigate around the menus. I was hoping someone could point me to a list of TVs with their benchmarks or processor specs. I checked the link in the info bar here but the TV section is blank.

The Rise and Fall of Netflix

    Posted: 15 May 2022 07:45 AM PDT

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OiEJhVcx0H0

Netflix became a star because it innovated. There is plenty of innovation to be had. It is a shame Netflix doesn't see this. Would be nice if shows were released with multiple ratings and in multiple genres. Comedy version of lost in space? NC17 version of altered carbon? What other innovative things could Netflix do? Price increases are a killer. I expect more woes for Netflix going forward. When are they going to decide to integrate fully with Google TV?

Chromecast with Google TV profile switching

    Posted: 14 May 2022 08:45 AM PDT

Now that Google IO has come and gone this year do we have any news I missed on when profile switching is coming to Google TV? Most articles at the end of last year just say they are delayed.

Got a Chromecast with Google TV on sale to "update" my "smart" Android TV for profile switching and it appears to not be enabled yet so I'll stick with Android TV till then...

    Other Continue Playing Launcher/Home Screens?

    Posted: 13 May 2022 05:37 PM PDT

Are there other launchers for the home screen that have Continue Playing?

I just got a new Hisense U6G and it is stuck at Android TV 9, so I'm hoping to find a different launcher that I can put on it all the Onn 4K boxes that I have hooked up in the house to maintain similarity across them all.
