    Android TV TV can't update?

    TV can't update?

    Posted: 17 Oct 2021 07:25 AM PDT

I have a Sony Bravia Smart TV thats probably 4 or 5 years old or so. Recently it had begun to be a bit buggy and I noticed it was only on Android 7. It says its updated to the latest version if I try to update manually. There is also one or my streaming apps that won't work because it says the android version is out of date. Does anyone know if there's a way to update it when it can't find the update itself? Or is it like phones where they stop supporting the TV after a few years? This would suck since a big 4k TV like this is quite the investment for us.

List of customizations for Walmart Onn 4K box

    Posted: 16 Oct 2021 03:50 PM PDT

Hey I recently got the Onn 4K UHD box once I saw that the price dropped to $20. It's the best value out there currently. I've been looking all around this subreddit and other android tv guides on how to do a bunch of customizations to it. Below is a list of things that I've done to my device. This should also mostly work on any other android TV device like chromecast or mecool.

    • ADB over network: Enable dev mode, make sure usb debugging is turned on, get adb working on your computer, connect Onn to computer via usb, type in terminal/cmd: 'adb tcpip 5555' to enable ADB over tcpip (Found from this comment)

    • Remove bloat/apps: Now that you got adb enabled over network, do that and connect. Follow the commands in this thread here

    • Change default launcher: Download a different launcher that you want to use (stock one has ads). I personally use Flauncher (or gitlab). It's simple, open source, and very clean. There's also another great thread with a massive list of alternative launchers here, this is where I found Flauncher. After installing a launcher, do the following command in ADB to remove stock launcher. After installing, you will be prompted with picking a default launcher. Pick your chosen launcher and select Always. (source here)

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.google.android.tvlauncher

    • If you want to have a custom rom with Android 11, you can flash LineageOS on your Onn UHD box. There aren't too many great uses for most users so I wouldn't recommend it. You do get an unlocked bootloader and root. This would be the most bleeding-edge android tv experience you could get since it's on Android 11 while stock is Android 10. (XDA) (Unlock bootloader here)

Installing 3rd party apps: You can either use adb or Downloader (from playstore). Here are the apps that I personally use:

    • Aerial Views, this is a screensaver app that uses the flying screensavers of landscapes, oceans, mountains, etc from Apple TV screensavers. It's a fork of Aerial Dream which is in google play, which is the same app BUT it doesn't have latest Apple TV screensavers, just the ones from like 2 years ago and older. Once you've installed this you can go into your android tv settings and change screensaver easy and test it.

    • SmartTubeNext, this is just adfree youtube + sponsorblock. Must have but unfortunately doesn't work with the Onn remote's youtube button. (Github)

    • Aptoide TV, 3rd party app store. Worth browsing around. You can download Amazon Prime TV apk on here since you can't normally use it on this Onn 4k box...

    • Apps in the play store that I use: Kodi (best for IPTV and other streams), Plex (self-hosted media streaming), Netflix, S0undTV (3rd party Twitch client, NO ADS), Surfshark VPN, Retroarch (emulator).

Xiaomi TV stick not connecting to WiFi/ internet

    Posted: 17 Oct 2021 02:16 AM PDT

Hi all. I have a Xiaomi TV stick connected to my non smart TV. The tv stick runs on Android. This morning it is having issues connecting to my WiFi. I decided to do a factory reset and do a complete setup again. I cannot complete the setup as it still does not connect to the WiFi. All other devices in the house in use are connected and running just fine.

Has anyone had this issue before, any advice.on how to fix this issue? Thank you

    Onn FHD Stick

    Posted: 16 Oct 2021 03:50 PM PDT

Got the fhd 2k stick delivered from Walmart last night. Everything was fine until later last night i jumped up out of my sleep because the damn thing made a screeching static sound on my tv and shut off. Since then it is fine for a few hours then it makes the loud static sound with a black, green or white popcorn fuzz screen. It then either turns off, continuously reboots or i have to unplug it and turn it back on.... Anyone else have/had this problem or know why it's happening? Is it faulty? Should i return it?

    Autoplay on Chromecast w/ GoogleTV

    Posted: 16 Oct 2021 08:19 PM PDT

I recently bought a season of a show on the Google Play store. When watching through my CCwGT dongle, it cuts off the end of the show and automatically advances to the next episode. I'm losing some key minutes of my show, and it won't even let me fast forward to the skipped minutes (it auto advances when I try to play them). Anyone know how to disable autoplay on CCwGT? On my phone, there's a easy toggle to prevent autoplay next episode, but I can't find it on my CCwGT. Help me r/AndroidTV! You're my only hope!

    Android remote app not working...

    Posted: 16 Oct 2021 06:34 PM PDT

Hi all, so the recent update has caused my trusty Android TV app to stop working, I've narrowed down the problem to needing to uninstall the update from my Smart TV, only 1 problem... I don't have the original remote the TV came with anymore (broken), hence why I was using the phone application to control the TV.

Are there any solutions to this? My TV does not have manual controls, only an on/off button + volume control.
