Tips on having no allegiance to any brand.

    Posted: 26 Sep 2021 01:21 AM PDT

I remember growing up where my dad wouldn't buy any vehicle that wasn't a Chevy and I thought that sort of blind allegiance to a brand was silly until I realized I was doing it with smartphones.

Now-a-days even cheap phones have crazy features that we only thought we'd see in flagships from particular brands.

Here are some tips that will help you escape any brands ecosystem easier.

    1. Find a third party launcher that you like and get used to it, this will make switching between brands much more familiar.

    2. Get used to using Google photos and files by Google instead of any proprietary included gallery apps.

    3. Use Google messages for your sms again instead of any included SMS apps as well as the Google phone dialer.

    4. Use a site like kimovil to check frequency band compatibility for whichever phone and cellular network you want to use. This one is important if you want the best reception while selecting the right phone for yourself. You ideally want a phone that covers every single frequency band on your network in your country and some basic ones for other countries if you plan to travel.

If you make these changes I promise, switching brands from LG, to OnePlus to Samsung and more will be much easier and a much more familiar experience.

Don't limit your phone choices to a single brand, it's ok to switch it up.

Layman's review of the Samsung Watch 4: Do not buy.

    Posted: 25 Sep 2021 11:59 PM PDT

A year ago I broke my Active 2 Watch and couldn't repair it. So I decided to wait for the watch 3. Watch 3 came and I passed on it.

So I bit the bullet and decided to get the Watch 4.

I absolutely regret it and it really angers me that all of the god damn reviewers pretty much glossed over a simple fact that ruins the watch 4 for me.

Half of the watch's features are god damn region locked.

Depending on where you are, the following are region locked:

    1. Blood pressure

    2. Oxygen level

    3. Body composition

The Samsung Active 2 Watch had the exact same issue. Samsung promised (kind of) that these features would come to the watch eventually WHEN THEY LAUNCHED the Active 2.

I know it isn't all Samsung's fault but you don't see Apple doing this kind of shit, do you? Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe they all do this.

Seriously, without these features how do you justify a 300$ USD price tag for a watch with a 1 day battery life, maybe 2?

It also saddens me that reviewers pretty much ignore this. Like what makes this watch special now?

Anyway, pass on this and let Samsung know that if the watch and its features aren't ready for everyone, is a messed up business practice.

I honestly feel like I bought 1/3rd of a watch for 10* the price of a cheap Xiaomi band.
