I wrote an API in Kotlin +Flow to make Contacts straightforward to use (no ContentProviders)

    Posted: 27 Sep 2021 05:58 AM PDT

Historically, using the Contacts API has been a pain. Developers need to use ContentProviders which can be tedious to work with. The lack of a type-safe API leads to repeated errors, developer frustration, along with a waste of time and resources for the developer and the team.

As a result, ContactStore was born. Contact Store is a modern contacts Android API written in Kotlin. It utilises Coroutine's Flow to notify the developer for updates happening to the Contacts database.

Some basics android apps related questions/clarification

    Posted: 27 Sep 2021 03:01 AM PDT

    Hey Mobile devs,

Few basics questions for android app:

    1. I'm developing an android app with a global audience. But there will be some features restricted or personalized depending on countries. What is the best way to do this?
    2. The app will be free initially but will add premium features in 2nd release. So will it be fine to mark it as Free now and then change to IAP later?
    3. For premium features what is best - remove ads in premium or just make some features as premium?

    Posted: 27 Sep 2021 06:08 AM PDT

    Hi,

I am currently working as an Android developer. It's only been 6 months since I moved to Android. Was planning to take Android Kotlin Nano Degree by Udacity.

Is it worth it? Anyone who joined the course? Did it help you?

Is it okay to use an autogenerated privacy policy/Ts&Cs for my app?

    Posted: 26 Sep 2021 01:58 PM PDT

I've been building an app that is nearing completion and I was about to put it on the PlayStore for testing but it apparently needed a privacy policy. So I managed to find a site where I could auto-generate a privacy policy and terms and conditions and put that on my website (after modifying it a bit) so my app can link to it.

I'm just wondering if this is fine or if I'd somehow get into trouble since it is technically not legally binding (I did not get a lawyer to write these up for me). I should also mention that I am an individual and not a company. But would I maybe need to register as a company to make it legally binding? How do I approach this? Not sure if I'm being overly cautious/paranoid.

is it normal for JR android developer to not be in project for more then 3 months ?

    Posted: 27 Sep 2021 01:01 AM PDT

would you rather be in big company that is in more then 40 countries, pays similar to small or normal company, but there is perspective that you will get paid better then other company's after 6 month's being there you will not have project to work for more then 4 months you will not have mentor only thing they want you to do is study so after 6 months you can somehow become middle and be in project (they cant have you in project if you are JR) or

you can be in a small company which will put you in a project you will have mentor pays similar and is in only 1 country

well answer is probably clear for you but what everyone keeps telling me is that having big company's name in my cv and waiting 6 months for project is better then being in small company

    Mockoon port for Android

    Posted: 26 Sep 2021 05:04 PM PDT

When I knew about Mockoon, I don't know why but I just wanted to package it with android to act as internal mock server. I had no idea how to do this or was it even possible. But after many hours of research and testing I have finally packaged mockoon with android and wanted to share how I did it. Now you can send demo android app's to client without deploying your APIs. More information can be found in this blog post. https://susuthapa19961227.medium.com/embedding-mockoon-on-android-5c240f2a3143
