Android TV Some New User Questions

    Some New User Questions

    Posted: 19 Aug 2021 03:45 AM PDT

I've just got a new Philips 856 Oled which runs Android TV (If I've not already mixed up Google TV/Android TV!) and I've got a few questions.

    1) There's a quick menu that can pop out the right side, can I customise those options, as they're pretty useless as they are?

    2) Is there an app that allows for remote button re-mapping, the Philips remote is still way to broadcast tv orientated, so I want to see if I can make more buttons do useful stuff?

    3) Is there any OSD/Info available, I want to see what input res was, what the output res is, what hdr mode, what framerate etc etc, you know basic diagnostic stuff.

    4) What is the recommended app for NAS stored media? I've got a Synology NAS, so I was going to start with their dsvideo app. But the Infuse app on AppleTV was better and it didn't need a server (my NAS although marketed as a Play for this usage doesn't really have the oomph for running the server stuff I've tried (plex and emby I think i've been through).

    5) And for clarity Google TV was first (I've still got a Sony one of those somewhere), then Android TV (which the Nvidia Sheilds run (again one of those is somewhere:)), the current OS on TV's is Android TV but that might be changing back to being Google TV branded? have I got all that right?

    6) Oh and might be a bit off topic, but I can't make the Philips TV a Hue Hub can I?

    Thanks

Great cheap starter usb hub for walmart onn or similar streaming device(s)

    Posted: 19 Aug 2021 05:27 AM PDT

Picked THIS little raspberry pi powered hub as a great starter hub setup. It works great with my walmart onn device. Can run xbox usb or generic usb (wired or wireless) controllers, bluetooth dongled mouse or keyboard. will also run wired mouse and keyboards. it can only handle chargers up to 5v or up to 5.2 volt chargers, but I happened to have a spare laying around that works a treat. Set the hub to OTG mode and enjoy! (the micro usb female plug is what you would use for the charging port and is perfectly fine to leave plugged into a wall adapter for a constant power source). Setting the hub in charge mode disables otg if I'm not mistaken.

    Apps getting removed Sony X80G

    Posted: 19 Aug 2021 05:05 AM PDT

So I have a Sony X80G android TV and i have installed redbox/livenet tv on it.

But since yesterday the apps just disappear and im unable to find them anywhere.

When i try to reinstall the apps,it asks me if i want to update the existing app. Upon reinstallation i can see and use the app again, but it disappears after a while.

Can someone help me with this please?
