Android Questions: Prevent phone from working upside down

Prevent phone from working upside down

    Posted: 22 Aug 2021 03:29 AM PDT

Is there a way to make a phone not work while in the pocket? My phone always activates randomly in my pocket during summer and starts playing music or changes the song.

Trying to find ways to prevent this

Edit: Thanks. There's been multiple app recommendations, I'll look into all of them.

Need a foolproof way to prevent my phone from pocket dial / pocket msg issues

    Posted: 22 Aug 2021 12:22 PM PDT

This is about an LG V35.
In the summer I am frequently wearing shorts that have thin pockets. I have known this for a while, so I set lock so that it activates immediately after the screen goes off, and it's been that way for over a year. But this issue is getting worse. Last week I also changed the screen lock to be a knock code, in case my swipe code was too easy to unlock. But I still have issues with this almost every day. basically if there is any messaging app open - sms, fb messenger, gchat, etc, my phone finds a way to send messages to it. It's also happening when my phone is next to me in bed.

I am ready to switch phones entirely, this is so maddening. Or if anyone has any suggestions on ways to stop this issue with messaging when it should be locked, happy to hear that. Seems like there could be settings that could help me, but I thought I hit them all.

Will my Zenfone 6 work after AT&T 3g shutdown?

    Posted: 22 Aug 2021 10:59 AM PDT

I've seen mixed messages online about whether Zonefone 6 works on AT&T VOLTE. I got a (really cheap and bad) phone mailed to me by AT&T last week claiming my current phone will no longer work. Is there a way to verify from my actual phone whether it's using VOLTE?

How do you manage the state in MVVM?

    Posted: 22 Aug 2021 10:32 AM PDT

Hi, I'm new to this MVVM stuff. What I know is we instantiate some objects as MutableLiveData in our ViewModel and then we observe them from our View (Activity/Fragment) and then update the UI.

I create an enum class with some states

    enum class NetworkRequestState { IDLE, LOADING, OK, FAILED, SAVED_DATA }

Then create a MutableLiveData object of that enum class.

    val networkRequestState = MutableLiveData(NetworkRequestState.IDLE)

Finally, I observe this variable in my View (Activity/Fragment) and update the UI.

As I have set the default state IDLE, so in this case, I won't be showing the spinner.

when the state becomes LOADING I will show the spinner.

This all works fine, but when the task is finished, I have to change the state back to IDLE,

so I use .postValue() method to set it back to IDLE.

I think it's a bad practice, maybe there are some good ways of doing this, maybe through an interface.

Or should we manage it like as we do in react js, Considering Each view as a component and defining their states, then altering their behavior through ViewModel, if I go with that approach, then for the sake of Toasts and Alerts, etc, there must have to be some way to trigger them or interface is the only solution?

Can you guys explain your way of doing this, How you manage the state in your apps?

Please Help, need answers to recover phone

    Posted: 22 Aug 2021 10:12 AM PDT

So the situation i have is that both my samsung galaxy s6 and s8 actives are no longer functional. it seems to be just an issue with display on the s6, however the s8 just wont turn on or charge at all. But the screen does light up when i attempt to charge the phone it just wont actually attempt to charge. I do know for sure that the issues with the s6 were caused by the phone getting waterlogged while i was on a boat. Really just a stupid decision to take it on my part lol. im not worried about fixing the phones. i havent bought a new phone in a few years so i will just buy a new one. However, im looking for any information on how i might still recover the photos on the phones. it would be great if i could basically get everything off them but specifically i need photos. My wife and i recently got married, and both phones have pictures and videos of our wedding and engagement party. it would mean alot to me if those photos werent just lost forever. So if anyone has insight to how i could recover them without either phone working i would be extremely greatful. If anyone doesnt know how to help but might know a different subreddit where i can get more information please let me know what i should do. Thanks to everyone who wants to help in advance.

    Battery charge started plummeting, question.

    Posted: 22 Aug 2021 04:29 AM PDT

Hi guys, I hope this is the right Reddit to come with this question to.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S7, got it store new right after they came out 5 years ago or so. It was working perfectly fine up until a few weeks ago. Then the battery started dying at an unbearably quick pace. I always turn my data off for the night. Before I would lose 3-8 percent overnight, now I'm losing 15-25. It barely lasts half a day if I use it for anything at all.

Every once in a while a white screen will pop up. As if an app was opening and then closing right away. Not sure when it started, or if it has any relevance, but I want to mention it just in case.

I uninstalled all the apps that I got since that update and tried other chargers. Didn't help and it all started right after a software update. So my question is, has my phone just been updated into obsolescence by Samsung, or has my battery just randomly hit its limit? appreciate any help you can provide.

Help : MTP transfer for work profile

    Posted: 22 Aug 2021 06:35 AM PDT

    Hi everyone,

I've been using Insular which is using the "work profile" technology offered by android (link)

I'm searching for a way to retrieve my files (especially images) that are stored on my work profile so that I can duplicate them on my computer. It's a lot of data so using the cloud is not really an option.

    Any help appreciated !

How to remove the dead space under my Gboard, it appeared after my update

    Posted: 22 Aug 2021 05:38 AM PDT

    What keyboard do you recommend?

    Posted: 22 Aug 2021 04:43 AM PDT

I love Gboard, but it has this issue on my phone where after a while of typing a long message it gets really slow and it looks like it can't keep up with my typing speed. Another popular option is Swiftkey, but I hate the typing experience there. Any other suggestions?

    Google assistant without internet connection

    Posted: 22 Aug 2021 04:32 AM PDT

Hello there. My phone is Samsung S7 Edge on Android 7. I have been using Google Assistant intermittently and I was always able to use functions such as "make a call", "set a reminder", "set an alarm clock" without internet connection in the past. Later on, some functions such as "set a reminder" stopped working offline but the others were still usable.

Now, nothing works. No matter what, I get a message to turn on the wifi. Of course, with wifi or data on everything works fine. If I am correct, google has opted for the "always online" model even for simple commands that do not need internet, which is deplorable. Unless of course I am missing a setting somewhere.

Has anyone found a way to circumvent this?

How to transfer pictures from old to new Android á la AirDrop?

    Posted: 22 Aug 2021 02:02 AM PDT

I'm trying to help my mother (over TeamViewer QuickSupport) transfer her photos from her old Android phone to her new one (also Android). What is the fastest way to do such thing considering she has no computer and her WiFi is a mobile broadband router (so probably not very reliable)? Is there something like Apple's AirDrop where devices don't need to be connected on the same WiFi network and it's very fast? I think the whole size is 5GB.

Old phone is a Samsung, new is a Xiaomi.

    Facebook Device-level notifications deleted (?)

    Posted: 22 Aug 2021 12:19 AM PDT

First of all I don't receive any push-notifications from facebook. All my notifications settings are turned on both on the Facebook app and within the device settings.

I borrowed a friend of mines phone, and within his facebook notification settings an option called "Device-level notifications" are turned on, and on my phone that option is not available at all...

And on my device at the bottom of facebook notification settings it says "4 categories deleted".

So I think my device somehow has deleted the "device-level notifications" option and therefore I don't receive any push-notifications from facebook. Does anyone know a fix?

Edit: I have an OnePlus Nord and I'm running android 11

Does anyone know how to remove the screenshot notification?

    Posted: 21 Aug 2021 11:55 PM PDT

I am referring to the screenshot coming up on the lower right of the screen after you take the shot. I tried taking another shot and my previous screenshot showing up ruined another sceeenshot. I tried googling it, all I got was guides on how to make snapchat not know you took a screenshot.
