Is it possible to connect an external mic to my phone and use it for calls?

    Posted: 16 Jul 2021 06:25 AM PDT

I have a high end Neumann microphone and was wondering if I could somehow connect it to my phone and use it as an alternative to the built-in microphone. It has an XLR port and is powered by an audio interface.

Alternatively, I'd be looking at using VOIP service if that isn't possible.

Help me find a course as a beginner in android dev with previous programming exp!

    Posted: 16 Jul 2021 11:37 AM PDT

Hello, I have been looking for an android development course using java all day and I cant seem to find a good one. I have previous web dev exp, cpp, c.

From what I read I need one that is up to date, teaching in java(my requirement) android 11, and that makes things clear you know.

Theres this yt video fromfreecodecamp but I dont know if it's up to date and enough, 20 hours seems a bit short https://youtu.be/fis26HvvDII

The popular courses on udemy are about android 7 and I saw people saying that's not a good choice. Same thing about Googles nanondegree.

Theres this udemy course that ticked the boxes but I cant find some honest reviews https://www.udemy.com/course/full-android-course-with-14-real-apps-42-hours/

    Any help?

So did Samsung make it so that you are required to use a Samsung account simply to be able to transfer files using a Windows PC now?

    Posted: 16 Jul 2021 01:04 AM PDT

Plugging in the phone does nothing - no detection by Windows, and in the Settings, the top item is "Samsung Account" which prompts you to log in and agree to everything.

    I also found this:

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-update/samsung-electronics-co-ltd-usb-216140-and-samsung/82a367f3-2d2f-4cb9-9fd5-87eb1b0d131a

(Scroll down to the post beginning with "This will be a long answer.")

I don't want to use a Samsung account. Is there any way around this?

    Am I hacked?

    Posted: 16 Jul 2021 08:15 AM PDT

During the last two months i am having captcha problems with my Android 9 phone. Sometimes there's a captcha request when I'm using google search (on browsers, not logged in) but the biggest problem is a YouTube alternative app called NewPipe which became unusable with constant captcha when you click any video and when you solve it you can't play video because it will instantly ask captcha again. This is driving me nuts and lately I'm having this strong feeling that I'm hacked or there's some malicious app on my phone that's sending allot of requests. Is there an app or another thing to know that I'm hacked or there's a malicious app installed. Thank you for your attention.

    Phone not charging

    Posted: 16 Jul 2021 07:28 AM PDT

Hello everyone I have a galaxy s20 plus and recently does not want to charge and will say check charger/USB port for moisture. It has not been near water nor is the charger broken. I've confirmed the charger works and the charging block. I've tried restarting my phone and it will charge but then goes back to the moisture notification. I can still charge via wireless charger but takes a long time. Anyone know of any fixes? Any help would be appreciated thanks!

Do you use expandable memory/storage on your phone?

    Posted: 16 Jul 2021 11:06 AM PDT

How is your experience using an SD card to add more storage to your phone? Is it seamless? Or is there a lot of fiddling involved? (I mean after installing it. Do you always have to fiddle with settings and tell apps which storage to use?)

Many years ago, I bought a phone not enough storage, maybe 32 GB, because it was expandable. When I added an SD card, I seem to remember it being a pain to use. Can't remember exactly how. But maybe it was like I had to tell each app where to store things. Like the podcast app would fill up the internal storage, then think the phone was full. It wouldn't automatically start using the SD card. So I ended up having to always think about which storage my apps were using, and constantly fiddle with settings. Not seamless.

    Is that what it's like?

I'm hoping not. I hope it's just you insert the SD card, maybe do something in settings, and then never have to think about it again.

    Autocomplete on lock screen

    Posted: 16 Jul 2021 07:03 AM PDT

I have a pixel 3a, and after running an android 11 update today I've noticed that the autocomplete bar on the keyboard now appears on the login/lock screen and will start trying to autocomplete my password as I type it. Is there anyway to disable this? I use the stock software keyboard. Seems like a bit of a security issue.

Best program for moving music files between phone and pc?

    Posted: 16 Jul 2021 10:39 AM PDT

I already had a large music library stored on my SD card and i got a new phone now. A lot of my songs are in desperate need of retitling/sorting/deleting etc that would take days to do on the phone so i am looking for a way to do it on my PC and to create playlists that i can transfer back to my phone.

I tried using MediaMonkey, and after retitling and editing my playlists i managed first to somehow delete all the Artists names and replace them with the song titles and it doesn't have a 'undo' function, then when i fixed that and transferred my music to my phone all the song tracks began with '00' and i could not fix that.

MusicBee will plain just not install for me.

Volume on Huawei P10 is incredibly high, can't use videocalls

    Posted: 16 Jul 2021 04:36 AM PDT

    Hello friends!

I have a Huawei p10 that I use as my work phone (I hadn't used it in a while since I got the p30pro) I booted it up, factory reset, popped my sim in and started using it. The regular calls were perfectly fine, but using anything to videocall is impossible. I tried WhatsApp, Viber, Instagram, zoom, Facebook messenger, with every app the call volume is incredibly high even at the lowest setting, I have to put my finger over the speaker. So it's absolutely due to the phone. Already tried factory reset. EMUI: 9.1.0

Recent M4A tracks from iTunes stutter on Android

    Posted: 16 Jul 2021 10:19 AM PDT

I have a large library of music purchased from iTunes, in original m4a format, which has always played fine on every device I've owned.

However, I purchased a couple albums within the last 2 months, and they have a lot of stuttering when played on my phone (OnePlus 7 Pro, Android 11). They play fine on my computer, but are intolerable on my phone. Trying different music apps had no effect, they all sound the same.

Has anyone else experienced this? I don't know if iTunes changed something, or if I happened to get a bad batch of files.

keep fake GPS with dev mode off on 11?

    Posted: 16 Jul 2021 10:12 AM PDT

I finally decided to upgrade to android 11 and noticed that my GPS spoofer stopped working - I need it for a hobby of mine. Unfortunately my job's invoicing app refuses to run while dev mode is on (for obvious reasons), which means I need to run a GPS spoofer with dev mode off.

On 10 I simply turned on dev mode, set up my spoofer, and then turned it off again, and my spoofer app remained set; however it appears that with 11 turning off dev mode also disables the GPS spoofer app.

so i need A) a way to keep my GPS spoofer set up after turning off dev mode, B) a GPS spoofer that doesn't need to mock GPS setup, C) a way to roll back to android 10, or D) a way to hide that dev mode is enabled from the invoicing app.

A problem with unlocking my sim. (Begging for help)

    Posted: 16 Jul 2021 10:08 AM PDT

Not sure if this belongs here, but I'm in sort of an emergency right now. I'm trying to unlock my sim card with its PUK code. I have the code written on the card the sim came in. (And yes, I'm sure I'm entering it correctly) When I enter the code, I get prompted to set a new sim pin and then another one to confirm it. Here's the problem. It then prompts me again to enter the PUK code with one less try left! What the heck is happening?? I stopped trying cause I only have 3 tries left. Is there a solution to this?

Default notification sound not working on Galaxy S10+

    Posted: 16 Jul 2021 09:06 AM PDT

I recently switched from an S8 to S10+. I used Samsung Smart Switch to migrate. [Android 11, patch level May 1 2021, unlocked, t-mobile service.]

Defaults are for 'sound', not vibrate while ringing, different ringtone/notification/system sounds, all volumes at max. All sounds are working except for 'notification'. Instead of the default sound I get a vibration for incoming texts. I've tried several default sound choices, no change.

This is just for senders with no custom sound setting. If I set a custom sound for one sender, I get sound notification for that sender.

I'm using the default three-dot "messages" app. In the 'messages' permissions it says "no permissions denied".

    Ideas? Stuff to try?

I forgot to decrypt my files in Private Safe before performing factory reset

    Posted: 16 Jul 2021 06:40 AM PDT

I used factory reset to erase all data in my phone. But I just remembered that I have files in Private Safe. Just to be safe, is the data or files that are stored in the Private Safe still there after I have performed the reset? Does it take up my phone storage or hidden or something? What should I do?

Ongoing call stays in my app notification menu after hanging up.

    Posted: 16 Jul 2021 06:35 AM PDT

Phone is a stock Motorolla One 5G Ace on AT&T running Android 10.

The problem started about a month or so ago. There wasn't any update that I can remember that would have caused this directly.

Basically, I will hang up a phone call and the call will end, but the "ongoing call" notification in the pull down menu stays until I restart my phone. I can still make and receive calls like normal, but it stays there. Sometimes the call length will still be on it and it keeps counting up. Because it is an "ongoing call," I can't just swipe it away.

Non-VPN/Rooted Alternative To Block App Updates

    Posted: 16 Jul 2021 06:32 AM PDT

Hey guys, I am currently using NetGuard in order to block my Evernote Version 8.13.3 from updating into the garbage that it has become. I've turned off auto update for Evernote in the Google Play Store. My phone isn't rooted since the bootloaders have been locked and I am not willing to pay for it to get unlocked. I currently use both Blokada5 from F-Droid and NordVPN on my phone. I can only run 1 VPN at a time so NetGuard isn't a good fit for me. Obviously, I can't use AFWall+ since my phone isn't rooted.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

Any information regarding this matter would greatly be appreciated, thanks.

    Samsung regional lock

    Posted: 16 Jul 2021 03:52 AM PDT

I remember a while back reading about how Samsung phones have a regional lock (there was an acronym associated with this that I've now forgotten). IIRC I read that if I were to buy a Samsung phone in one region and then use it in another region, then my phone would no longer get OTA updates. Is this true?

I'm currently on the hunt for a new phone and may move back to Europe from Asia where I'm living now. So would I face any problems buying a phone in Asia then using it in Europe?

    Thanks.

Is there a way to have Google Assistant temporarily turn off updates about a given topic?

    Posted: 16 Jul 2021 03:44 AM PDT

Title. I still want updates about the topic overall, but not for a few days. Is there a way to have Assistant do this, or do I just need to go into settings, remove the topic, and re-add it when I want those updates again?

[Help] Moto 10G - Screen rotation issue (crosspost)

Phone screen went dim and popped while it was on my lap?

    Posted: 15 Jul 2021 06:52 PM PDT

I have an LG Aristo 5, which I have had for eight months. Today I texted someone, then put the phone down on my lap, so it was sitting there with the screen still on. While it was sitting there, it looked like the screen briefly went dim and it made a popping or clicking sound, then brightened again. The phone volume is off so not sure that the speaker is what made the sound. Using Android version 10. Maybe it was just my imagination, but I'm wondering if something is wrong with the phone. First time I have ever seen this happen. Thanks in advance for any info.
