| VERY cool pull-down effects -- can't recreate now though Posted: 11 Jun 2021 08:44 PM PDT So I discovered this really nice pull-down effect, but for the life of me I can't recreate the video. I thought maybe a glitch where an active notification needed to be there, nope. Maybe media player needed to be active ... nope. I give up. BUT I hope this becomes the default, even if it is accidental. [link] [comments] | ||

| Posted: 11 Jun 2021 10:15 AM PDT I noticed this problem today where the GPS icon is always active in the status bar. Long story short, it's an issue with Google play services and if you turn off the "body sensors permissions" for Google play services the always-on gps icon will disappear from the status bar. | Posted: 11 Jun 2021 12:02 AM PDT So Google decided to make "Device controls" basically useless by removing them from the very convenient Power Menu that you can simply access by long pressing the power button and hiding them in the quick setting tiles. Here's an image showing the difference: https://twitter.com/joaomgcd/status/1402921242987053060/photo/1 Even worse, since you only get 4 tiles now when you expand your notifications and I already use those 4 tiles for other things, to access Device controls I now have to:
These "Device controls" were super useful to quickly toggle a light for example, and with apps like Tasker you could customize them to do whatever you want. If we need to take all those steps to access the "Device controls" menu, I think its easier to simply use home screen shortcuts for example. Now the Power menu is back to having just the "Emergency", "Power Off" and "Restart" buttons. I don't see a reason to simply remove functionality without any real advantage? Is it to make the buttons more reachable with one hand? In that case you could simply put them on the bottom instead of on the top of the screen? In any case, maybe we can revert this. Hopefully there's still time before features are finalized. Here's an issue on Google's bug tracker for this: https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/190662102 Please star the issue if you're inconvenienced by this. [link] [comments] | ||

| Resizing the Beta 2 PiP window Posted: 11 Jun 2021 01:09 PM PDT I don't know who else has figured this out yet, but in the interest of the greater community, I thought I'd share my findings in a place where people can see it. So far I've read multiple articles which refer to the removal of resizing the PiP as a bug, but in fact it has not been removed, and it's not a bug but a feature. Previously to resize, you grabbed the window by the corner and dragged to resize, but it seems in Android 12, it has been replaced with the iOS style of doing things, and you must Pinch in/out with two fingers to resize. As a small, but welcome touch, the player also rotates with your fingers presumable to add a playful feel to the PiP, as it seems Google aims to give to the entirety of Android; but when you 'set it down,' it corrects itself to a regular orientation.
