Smart trackers are going to become a mess. Posted: 03 May 2021 09:55 PM PDT Now that every single manufacturer is going to create their own version of them and they would all only work within their own ecosystems. Current examples are - Samsung smart tags? Only with Samsung phones. Apple Air tags? Only with Apple products. Google needs to create their own smart tracker API which 3rd party trackers can plug in to ASAP. Using Google Play services, this network would be far bigger than any other 3rd party ecosystem and would work on all android phones. Now If we wanted to jump ship to another manufacturer, we risk having our key chain trackers become paperweights. Please spam Google with feedback everywhere as the same shit had already happened with Nearby share and messaging services back then. I apologize for my poor English as I am not a native english speaker. [link] [comments]

Just Switched From iPhone To Pixel. Still Using Apple Watch Posted: 03 May 2021 11:55 AM PDT Obviously it doesn't make sense to purchase an Apple Watch if you're not an iPhone user, but in my case, since I had an iPhone and the Watch and then switched to the Pixel, I've just held on to the Apple Watch for now and found that I can still do the following: THE SETUP I did actually get rid of the iPhone, so I have the Watch set up with the "Family Member Setup" feature on my wife's phone. WHAT STILL WORKS - I can use the App Store ! Even if it needs a login, it still uses iCloud Keychain to fill out the info, or I can use scribble to enter it manually. I didn't think I could use it at all but this is pretty great. It looks like they've removed any apps that would be useless without an iPhone (like the camera remote apps) - I still get my 3 rings for Move, Stand, and Exercise, and I can change the goals right from the Watch itself. What i've been doing is just manually entering the info into Google Fit on the Pixel. - I have Apple Music so I'm using the Android app but I can also stream music from the Music and Radio apps directly off the Watch. I can't sync a playlist (for offline access) but I can stream anything. - I still have iMessage using my email address, so I use that on the iPads and Mac, and I can also send and receive from the Watch. - Walkie Talkie still works - Find My Friends works - I can install updates right from the Watch. I can also use my wife's iPhone to use the Watch app to do the update, but I don't see why I'd ever need to do that since it works pretty well from the Watch itself. - And most of the other Apple apps work just as they would if I had my own iPhone since they just use my Apple ID (Reminders, Calendar, Mail, Find People, Compass, Maps, etc.). The voice recorder and other utility apps like Calculator also work of course. I can even use Phone as long as I'm calling an Apple ID and not a land line (or Android user lol) WHAT DOESN'T WORK - heart rate change notification and ECG (I can still measure my heart rate, but I can't get alerts for unexpected changes in heart rate or do an ECG, I assume because of the broken link to Apple Health) - Apple Pay; although strangely enough it leaves the Wallet app on there, with no way to add a card to it. Maybe it's to add Apple Cash as an allowance thing for kids ? But I definitely can't add a credit card [link] [comments]
