Posted: 12 May 2021 10:11 AM PDT For the past few months, Android Assistant (I was on Google Assistant, then changed to Bixby in the hopes that that would fix it) won't stop interrupting my music to tell me the time, try listen to my voice, access my notifications, etc. I have turned off Google Assistant, restricted its access, disabled voice chat with it, etc. and done the same with Bixby but it seems every time I am listening to music, it beeps and starts talking and kt's basically stopping me from listening to music or use headphones with my phone. | Is it not possible to use Google maps without a sim card? Posted: 12 May 2021 09:58 AM PDT I recently purchased a new phone, a Sony Xperia 1 II, to replace my Verizon-branded Samsung Galaxy Note 9. I wanted to use my Note 9 as a GPS in the car, so that I can save battery on my new primary phone and avoid running the display and keeping the battery plugged in for hours in direct sunlight. While I have the ability to download offline copies of maps, I would like live traffic during any road trips. I'm trying to use my current phone's hotspot so the Note 9 has data for traffic. Here's where it gets weird. I can do pretty much anything on the Note 9 with the hotspot - stream music, browse the web, even watch youtube videos. But for some reason, whenever I try to set up a route in Maps, it never finds one. It sits at the "looking for best route" page forever, and it appears the entire Maps app isn't able to access the internet. As soon as I put it on my home wifi, it works again. What's going on here? I thought the GPS was a separate radio from the cell bands, so as long as the phone has internet access via hotspot, I don't see why Maps navigation shouldn't work. Did I miss something? | Android connecting to Wifi network but no Internet Posted: 12 May 2021 08:23 AM PDT Connected to wifi network just fine but cannot access websites, email, ookla speedtest, etc... just no internet service. I asked co-workers if they're having problems (all iPhones) and they're having no issues... connecting is just fine for them. I tried to "forget" the network and re-join the network. Again, joins network fine but no internet service. I'm moderately tech savvy but don't know about internet/network settings and don't know if that could be the issue. Any suggestions? Please help! (Android 11, Samsung, no root) Posted: 12 May 2021 04:10 AM PDT Hi, One game app on my phone requests "Storage" permission for a few features (other 99% of the game functionality works just fine without this additional storage access). I'm concerned about giving access to the "Storage" because I think that it includes all photos too. So the question is - can app which has "Storage" permission granted, and doesn't have "Camera" permission, access photo gallery on the phone (read access)? Searching internet was inconclusive, and especially since Android 11, which supposedly has some partitioned storage but all of that is hidden from users, so I have no idea in which specific storage are photos and which specific access is requested by the app. Phone is Samsung with OneUI 3.1, Android 11, no root. | How to get rid of black bars on TV when casting screen to chromecast from android? Posted: 12 May 2021 10:11 AM PDT Title pretty much says it all. I watch some workout videos that are on a non-youtube site that doesn't support video casting. Therefore, I just cast my whole phone to my tv. However, when I do this, only about 70% of the TV gets filled with my cast. There other portions are black. This make the videos smaller and is generally annoying. I assume this is happening because of different aspect ratios on my devices. It seems like Samsung devices have a fix for this as you can 'match aspect ratio' when casting your device. | Why do contacts of the same person not get linked properly sometimes? Posted: 12 May 2021 09:58 AM PDT Most of us use apps like Telegram, WhatsApp, etc. Although these apps read contacts from our "phonebook", they provide their own versions of the same contacts. This is to allow us to go to that contact in the phonebook, and directly message/call the person via that specific app. So, for a person named John Doe, you might see his WhatsApp, Telegram, etc. details alongside his usual contact details. The issue that I have been facing is that sometimes these app contacts does not get linked correctly with the original contact. They come up as separate contacts. This does not happen often enough to be a critical issue, but when it does, it is quite annoying. It is most annoying when I'm trying to update a contact with some new info, but there are two or three contacts of the same name because they did not get linked properly. Anybody know why this happens for only few contacts and how I can have a permanent fix for it rather than manually linking all of them one by one? [link] [comments] |
| 2 charging sources for android Posted: 12 May 2021 09:28 AM PDT So my android head unit recently stopped working properly, as it can't seem to get the time and date right (I've toggled automatic date and time on and off plenty times, and tried to set the time manually, done a hard reset many times, and updated the firmware) this of course leading to any internet services, not working on it. Of course i've tried to solve this for quite some time, but it seems to be permanent. Then i started to investigate into getting android auto onto my headunit. I've installed Head unit reloaded and for the first couple of days, it worked fine wirelessly with my phone, and then it just stopped working wirelessly. This means i have to wire my phone up every time i enter my car. This is not a sustainable solution, so therefore i'm looking into other options. As of now, I'm, thinking of installing an older android phone in my car, so that i can just leave my phone in the car permanent. The only issue with this setup would be that the android phone would only be powered on when the car is on and because it's an older android phone, it would fast run out of battery, meaning that i would have to wait for the phone to power up, and then manually start it every morning I get in my car. This problem could be solved, by feeding the phone power all the time, regardless of the carignition ( if this is not a fire hazard on warm days of course). But would my phone be able to receive power from a charger all the time, whilst also getting "power" from the head unit when the car is on, or would this ruin the battery, as it gets double the charge ? At first I thought it was just a problem on notifications but when I checked the app no new emails were received in the app since 9th of May. | Netflix & Disney+ Random Stuttering Posted: 12 May 2021 08:46 AM PDT Hi everyone, I've been experiencing this issue for quite a while and nothing has been able to fix it so far. While watching videos in Netflix or Disney+, the videos will randomly stutter (both video and audio) for about a second and then come back. YouTube and Plex both work perfectly fine. I have a Samsung Note 10+ running Android 11. Things I've tried: - Reinstalling both apps - Clearing cache and data of both apps - Uninstalling Android Web View (just in case as I saw there was an issue with it earlier this year) - Complete wipe of phone and started fresh - Checked all settings in both apps and nothing useful there - Does not happen on an older Android phone (Note 5) Does anybody have any idea what could be causing this?
