Are there any Android Generic System Images for 32-bit ARM?

    Posted: 21 Apr 2021 11:49 AM PDT

From Google it seems there are a bunch of GSIs but none of them seems to be 32-bit (https://developer.android.com/topic/generic-system-image/releases)

Seems like Resurrection Remix has 32-bit GSIs but seems it's for android 9 (https://get.resurrectionremix.com/?dir=pie/gsi)

But the phone I'm trying to update has Android 10 and I don't really know if those would work.

    Thanks

    Posted: 21 Apr 2021 11:32 AM PDT

Whenever i open an app that requires permission the prompt pops up but my screen freezes, only allowing me to press back. If i go to Settings > Apps and clicked permissions there on any app it also freezes, again preventing me from pressing anything.

    Split screen suddenly not working?

    Posted: 21 Apr 2021 11:29 AM PDT

Hi all. I have an LG Velvet running Android 11. It recently updated and since then, I cannot get split screen to work at all. (I'm on Verizon weight now, but I don't know if that's relevant.)

I have split screen enabled, and have forced apps to be resizable through Dev Mode. I have restarted the phone and still gotten nowhere. I can click the square icon on the bottom toolbar to switch apps, but holding the square icon does nothing. Holding the app window while switching apps doesn't work, either. I'm not even getting the "this app doesn't work in split screen mode." It's like my phone doesn't recognize that it can split the screen at all, even though all the settings are right.

I've looked online for suggestions but most of the articles are about turning on split screen for the first time, not when your phone suddenly stops running split screen mode.

Does anyone have a suggestion or work around? Thank you so much!

I'm no longer able to disable tab grid view in Google chrome

    Posted: 21 Apr 2021 11:12 AM PDT

I HATED the feature when it was first shoved down my throat. Instantly started to look into how to change it and, while it wasn't obvious, it was simple enough. Just go to a specific website (as opposed to the app settings, for some reason) and disable "tab grid view" and then "relaunch"

But a few days ago, I noticed it switched me back to tab grids again... So I looked up how to fix it and it was still saying I had it disabled. Changing the setting back to "default" and then again to "disabled" before relaunching didn't fix the issue. Can anyone tell me how to fix it or am I just doomed to now live with this clunky cess pool of a tab system?

    Thanks, everyone

    Notifications broken android 11

    Posted: 20 Apr 2021 10:29 PM PDT

I did some research about this and found out some people have had the same issue.

My notifications are very inconsistent. Texting for example doesn't work at all. When I send a text with sounds turned on the keyboard clicking works but when I send the message it doesn't make a sound. Same for receiving them. I don't get an audible noise. My settings show that sound is on and turned up. My galaxy watch doesn't receive texts either. It's not only text notifications but seems random. I've reset my phone 3 or 4 times to factory and even on a factory reset like after a few hours it stops working again. Any ideas would be great!

How can I force offline-only gboard voice typing?

    Posted: 21 Apr 2021 10:51 AM PDT

So I've had this issue for years now with Android/google/samsung (s21 now). I live in an area with marginal data coverage and marginal DSL broadband quality. Samsung and Google speach to text entry by default use the cloud for voice processing. Even when the connection is terrible, they still default to the cloud and provide a terrible experience with massive latency and failure to translate to text. You would think after waiting several seconds for a server response, the programs would switch to offline speach engine mode, but they don't. This causes constant frustration!!!

HOW CAN I FORCE THIS OFFLINE? I tried turning off background data for gboard and that didn't do it.

If this isn't possible, is there high quality third party app I should be using for voice entry? Will this integrate into gboard?

My wife's IOS devices have had this seemless online/offline voice engine transition figured out for years. All my Android devices have pretty much sucked at it with the primary speach-to-text capabilities. Admittedly I haven't tried that many third-party options. It's been so frustrating, yet there is so little about the topic on the web. If anything, I think this issue has actually gotten worse over the years as the reliance on the cloud has increased. Those of us in rural areas are left behind by the developers.

Shouldn't I be able to turn off mobile data in app permissions?? I don't like being forced to agree to a data connection to use a basic function, but that's for a different thread.

    Thank you in advance!

Mom want to make the switch but is worried about the new OS

    Posted: 21 Apr 2021 10:46 AM PDT

My family member wants to switch from iphone to android but doesn't know if she'd be able to operate andriod os, as to her it's completely different than iphone os. A few weeks ago on tiktok I saw a video talking about andriod releasing a way to test their OS on an iphone via a website...but I can't find the tiktok and cant remember the website or if it's even real. Does anyone know if this is an actual website? Or if it was fake?

<Subject: NoSubject> Appering above messages on Galaxy 10+

    Posted: 20 Apr 2021 11:18 PM PDT

I am having problems with my messages app when I am receiving messages in a groupchat. Whenever someone sends a message through the groupchat right above it says <Subject: NoSubject>. Not only that, some downloaded pictures I send through come out a bit pixelated. Is there any fix for these problems?

How to use Wi-Fi Direct on Android 11 without enableing Location?

    Posted: 21 Apr 2021 10:12 AM PDT

For some reason now Wi-Fi Direct requires to always enable GPS.

This is how it looks like when Location is disabled: ![Wi-fi Direct - Location Off Demo]1

In Android 6, for example, it was not required. I don't understand why it is necessary, because I can properly use Wi-Fi routers without GPS, but for Wi-Fi Direct I'm forced to turn it on.

Is it possible to get rid of this restriction on Android 11? Even with root or some other modifications.

I have a Samsung device, but the password to its Samsung account has been forgotten. Can I install a custom rom to it anyway?

    Posted: 21 Apr 2021 09:10 AM PDT

The device is unlocked, the password to the google account linked to the play store is working. The only password I don't have is the google account linked to Samsung. So I can't reset it. But I can access developer settings. Can I unlock the boot loader and install a clean os/ custom rom without needing the Samsung password?

    Cons to rooting

    Posted: 21 Apr 2021 05:06 AM PDT

    I'm planning to root my device after 6 years of not rooting and I was curious to find out the downsides to it today. I know in the past there was a problem with rooting the Samsung galaxy note 8 that made the battery indicator never go past 80% which discouraged me from not doing so. After looking online I haven't found any specific issues with rooting more modern phone like the sm-g986u(S20+5G) running android which I want to root. Is there somewhere I can look to see a list of specific problems with rooting that specific device? From what I've seen the sm-g986u has a different setup from a lot of other models which is a little scary. Hoping someone can steer me in the right direction :}

Deleting files in the system directory on reboot.

    Posted: 21 Apr 2021 08:46 AM PDT

Hello everyone, I have a rooted samsung with twrp and it has one drawback - deleting files in the system directory (/, /etc, etc.). That is, when creating files or changing it, and after a reboot, there are no changes (the files that were created are deleted, and for the changed files, the change is deleted). As I understand it, this is a protective function in android. Who knows how to stop deleting files?

Yellow Tint for reading an option?

    Posted: 21 Apr 2021 08:42 AM PDT

    OnePlus 8 Pro

When I use the Kindle app on my phone it changes the lighting to a very soft yellow reading tone and I love it.

Is this an option that I can turn on and off at will outside of the Kindle app? Clearly the phone is capable..

    Image colors inverted when uploaded

    Posted: 21 Apr 2021 08:17 AM PDT

I was saving some pictures off Twitter to send through Discord afterwards. When I send pictures I usually use Scrambled EXIF to clear the image of any EXIF data. Now while the image was in my gallery it was in it's normal colors, but after I sent it through Scrambled EXIF to send to a Discord server the colors were inverted. I should mention that I didn't try to send it without using the EXIF app so I do not know if sending without it would have made a difference.

Now my question is, what could have caused the colors to become inverted? This is the first time this has ever happened to me so I am curious. I apologize if this is the wrong subreddit for this, I couldn't think up of any other place to ask.

Options with an old but brand new S8+

    Posted: 21 Apr 2021 08:06 AM PDT

    Hi there,

Thanks for taking your time to read this.

I've had my S8+ since 2017 and it's been a good phone, I've lived with the uninstallable app and bloatware cough Facebook cough at the time, and I couldn't use banking apps whilst rooted. It's now battered, cracked screen but surprisingly the battery is still going strong. I've replaced the charging port once.

I'm being offered some good upgrade options but I'm happy with my current plan paying £15 a month for unlimited, with 200GB data, which is far more than I actually use, and getting a phone with my contract takes it up to £45 at the cheapest, whilst I love new tech I really don't feel the need to upgrade whilst I've got a perfectly good spare lay around.

    My dilemma:

I've got a brand new S8+ G955-F in the box (my father's who passed shortly after buying one) I could easily just use this for another few years as it's practically new, however I'm already feeling the effects of software creep on my current S8+ which is to be expected on a phone approaching 5 years old, and I'd prefer to get back into rooting and get rid of the stock OS.

As someone returning to the development scene for Android, I have a few quick questions.

Do features such as KNOX and digital banking work with rooted devices nowadays, or is that still an issue?

If so, are there more options available nowadays for custom OS's based on the stock android? I'm looking for something minimal (as in not loaded with all the extra bloatware, and can run on an S8+) secure, trusted, and preferably open sourced.

I'd love stock android, but installing stock android over Samsung's OEM bloatware loaded OS broke a lot of security features and digital banking at the time. If this is no longer an issue this would be my ideal scenario.

I'd appreciate any help or pointers in the right direction, thanks for reading.

WhatsApp Web only works if I disable battery optimization for WhatsApp, why?

    Posted: 20 Apr 2021 11:13 PM PDT

Messages won't send and I constant got an warning saying that the phone disconnected. I tried pinning the app to multitasking view, but I didn't work. If I disable battery optimizations, the problem instantly go away. Is this the only way to fix the problem? Disabling the optimization has a big impact in battery life?

Note: I have a Samsung phone with Android 11, but I disabled the "put apps to sleep" feature.

    thanks

How do I get an International SIM Card to work in a T-Mobile LG G6?

    Posted: 21 Apr 2021 06:53 AM PDT

Hi y'all I'm in a bit of a pickle. I have an LG G6 that I got from T-Mobile and have been using for a few years. I just moved to Croatia for work and tried to put a Croatian SIM card in the phone, but it won't let me activate the card.

I know that the phone is unlocked because I used an international SIM card with it last time I had a job abroad. I had similar issues last time (I was in France) as well with activating the SIM card and wound up taking it into a service for help. I remember they did something in the settings but I can't remember what as this was a few years ago (and the conversation was in French so I didn't exactly understand what was happening), so I was hoping someone here might know what to do. TIA!
