Posted: 24 Apr 2021 07:58 AM PDT I listen to a lot of SEO podcasts and frequently when someone says "Google", assistant pauses what I'm listening to and starts listening. I googled it but all I get is how to turn off voice search on my phone, which I've done. How do I also stop my car (Honda Odyssey) thinking I'm trying to activate assistant? [link] [comments] |
Android 6 setup stuck on "just a sec" after factory reset Posted: 24 Apr 2021 03:19 PM PDT As the title says I did a factory reset on a kinda old vodafone tablet (have no idea which model). Android 6 on it I did through the normal settings and when it completed after I select language and and skip SIM card part it just gets stuck at "just a sec". Left it for over and hour and did change at all. I tried data reset and all through the recovery mode but still the same thing Does anyone know a solution for this? Thanks in advance [link] [comments] |
Android BRANDS - do you have any trust issues? Posted: 24 Apr 2021 06:57 PM PDT Alright, I do not want to make this political. Let's just say over the last couple of years here in the United States, we were told that we couldn't trust ZTE and Huawei. It seemed like ZTE in particular was just a poor pawn in a game of political leverage and private deals, but to be as fair as possible, the warning that ZTE and Huawei devices could be used for spying was not just touted by "one person," but the news did seem to come from "Top Intelligence Officials" to quote a few headlines. So my question is: couldn't the Chinese government potentially "tap" any Chinese-made phone in some sort of supply chain attack (or just by forcing the companies to install some sort of spyware) if they REALLY wanted? Not just ZTE and Huawei, but OnePlus/OPPO, Realme, Xiaomi, etc...? In the opinion of the hivemind: do you have any pause or worry at all when it comes to using any particular brand of phone? Why is camera integration still bad ? Posted: 24 Apr 2021 05:49 PM PDT Since the jetpack cameraX exists, why is camera still crap compared to native camera app ? If I'm not mistaken, Samsung promised the close partnership with popular social media apps to optimize their camera for 3rd party apps. https://developer.android.com/jetpack/androidx/releases/camera [link] [comments] |
Taking too much time installing apps from play store. Posted: 24 Apr 2021 12:41 AM PDT My phone takes too much time to install most of the apps. I mean it downloads quickly(10mbps WiFi). But, it just keeps on saying installing for about more than an hour. Sometimes, it finishes installing after a couple of hours but sometimes after installing for hours it says, cannot install. My android version is nougat. Any tips or reason why this happens? [link] [comments] |

I can't get rid of tiles and groups in Chrome tabs and my mind has blown. Posted: 24 Apr 2021 09:14 AM PDT Hello I can't get rid of the awesomely horrible tab grid layout. It wastes my time and my mental capacity and is not all the better things that The Corporation claims it is. https://i.imgur.com/5pdliZM.png I have disabled I have relaunched. I've done that in force closed chrome and reopened it. I can't make it work. What in the world? [link] [comments] |
Google messages reply from notification panel Posted: 24 Apr 2021 08:43 AM PDT When I reply to a message from the notification panel it doesn't mark the message as read, and often notifies me again about that same message. Really old Tablet - Improve performance? Posted: 24 Apr 2021 10:51 AM PDT Hi everyone! I've got a really old generic 10 inch tablet that is currently running on 4.2.2 Android, it has 4 GB of space on it and only 1 GB of RAM, I know it's not a lot but I thought it would be enough to run as a live photo frame. The issue is it's really slow, laggy and often freezes and I have to hard reset it so it's impossible to do anything with it. I did most of the tricks I could find on google to improve it's performance and those didn't work so my question is, is there any Android OS version that could improve it's performance? Maybe a very lite version with nothing installed on it? [link] [comments] |
Help with transferring mobile number between providers. Posted: 24 Apr 2021 07:04 AM PDT Hi. I've moved from O2 to EE, and I'm transferring my old O2 number to my new EE SIM. However, this process takes a few days, and so I was wondering if anyone knew what would happen if someone texts my O2 number while its still being transferred? Will I get the text messages once the process is complete? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Airtags and Android - tracking Posted: 24 Apr 2021 03:43 AM PDT Hi, So first of all I never want to switch to apple ecosystem so I am wondering how to utilize the airtags the most on my android devices. I'm thinking of a case where I buy few airtags and place them in my car so in case of stolen vehicle I get notified. Usually cars are dissembled as fast as possible or left somewhere if tracking company comes for it before they find the hidden tracking device. Let's say i did that and my car got stolen. I activate the lost tag a fill out the email and phone number. Now a person with iPhone walks in the proximity of my stolen car and airtag gets picked up by bluetooth and sends signal to my apple id which I set up only for the purpose of airtags. Now I know the time and location of that airtag. Does it work like that? Only person with android device must scan it with NFC, right? Therefore finding the airtag first. I never used these from other companies but I see one upside with apple being almost everywhere and having much more devices with BT activated and potentially finding the airtag. I mean it would be awesome to use it like that and maybe have more companies cooperating creating tag world where any device with BT can send info about it. Of course it must be limited to BT only getting the info about the tag and not finding it and destroying it, for obvious reasons. I never posted here so I don't know how hateful people are here towards discussing both ecosystems 😄 [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Apr 2021 08:47 AM PDT Say a person has recordings of my calls (made through apps like Whatsapp and also non-internet calls) how could they have gotten them and what should I do to prevent my calls from being recorded in the future? Afaik said person didn't have physical access to my device (Huawei P20). I'm reluctant to do a factory reset because: I'm not sure if it will solve anything if it can just be repeated after the reset. So I'd rather identify the method and have peace of mind knowing the problem was dealt at the source. I've tried some anti-virus apps but so far they haven't found anything. What could be going on here? edit: I've heard the recordings, so those are real for a fact [link] [comments] |
Wi-Fi calling - MMS texts without data Posted: 23 Apr 2021 08:02 PM PDT TLDR: Looking for unlocked Android phones that can do MMS over "Wi-Fi calling" (or WiFi calling) with data turned OFF in the USA like my old phone can, or for a way to make this possible on whatever phones. I am in the USA, have an old Motorola G5 Plus that runs Android 8.1, and have a cell phone family plan with Consumer Cellular (using T-Mobile towers, so Wi-Fi calling is supported). For several years I've been able to, with Wi-Fi calling enabled, send and receive MMS texts with data turned off and absolutely no data charges. I need to get a new phone (have a number of issues on the Motorola, but the most severe is that battery swelling seems to be happening), but being able to text over Wi-Fi without data has been really important to me (I'm on a very limited data plan). I got a new phone that gave me problems in a number of ways so I'll be returning it (Samsung A52 4g unlocked), but one of the issues was that MMS could not be sent or received without using data. I am using the same sim card from my Motorola phone and spoke to people at Consumer Cellular to make sure things were set up correctly on their end and on my new phone. Yes, I triple checked the APN, reset different things, and even went so far as to do a factory reset and then retry. I spoke to two people at Samsung and two people at Consumer Cellular. Everyone was in agreement that you HAVE to use data for MMS, even with Wi-Fi calling. This is incorrect. My sim card is back in my Motorola phone and I am once again able to do MMS with no data (data is turned off and my data usage does not increase with my MMS texts). So I'm trying to find out if there is a phone that can still do this, in case it's a phone thing, or how to get phones to do this. From what I've found from other people's complaints about this around a year ago, it MAY be due to newer Android software? Here are some examples of other people reporting that they HAD been able to send and receive MMS over Wi-Fi with data turned off, but no longer were able to. The proposed solutions tend to be APN related, which didn't work for me and don't work for many others. Past solutions have also included Textra, but more recent comments about Textra say it doesn't work for Wi-Fi texting anymore, only to fix the problem some have where their phones won't switch to data automatically for MMS. https://www.reddit.com/r/Sprint/comments/cbagd6/samsung_s9_android_messages_cant_send_mms_over/ https://www.reddit.com/r/ting/comments/8ktl4r/mms_over_wifi_on_gsm/ https://www.reddit.com/r/samsung/comments/b9dgu7/you_really_cant_send_mms_over_wifi_anymore_with/ https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidQuestions/comments/ia7rdj/mms_4g_vs_wifi/ https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidQuestions/comments/cfuobj/mms_over_wifi_not_working_on_s10/ Here's a discussion about whether it has been possible: https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/cmbs2u/can_the_pixel_3a_send_mms_over_wifi_similar_to/ Are there any more recent phones that people can confirm they can use Wi-Fi Calling to send MMS over Wi-Fi and not use any data, where data is turned off and their data usage does not increase? Or a way to make it work again on these newer phones? Or is this just not possible anymore with the current software and phones? [link] [comments] |
