Android Questions: Soundcloud new uploaded track of followed channel notification

Soundcloud new uploaded track of followed channel notification

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 10:19 AM PST

I never get notifications for new uploads of channels I follow. It's definitely activated in the settings. I follow a lot of channels and never got notified.. how do I solve this? If you have a clue I'd appreciate if you responded. I don't have any battery saving method turned on.

    Digital Wellbeing/Focus Mode doesn't block Outlook (S20+)

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 06:48 AM PST

Pretty much what the title says. I'd like to restrict notifications from work, and the focus mode option seemed perfect for this! But whilst trying to remove outlook as an active application, my phone said something along the lines of 'This app is always allowed in focus mode'. Bit of a bummer.

Anyone know of any workarounds for this? Quick reddit/google search netted me no answer, just other empty/dead threads. Thanks in advance!

Xiaomi keeps shutting down running apps since new update..

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 05:10 AM PST

Since I updated to the latest version of android, apps like YouTube shut down randomly when playing video in background but other apps too. Battery optimization is disabled and it didn't help. Previously it was happening rarely,so rare it wasn't an issue but now it happens constantly. Also browsers freeze very often and i need to leave browser and go back for it to work again, this is all since new update.

Dark screen overlay and white bar with Google logo shows every time a website is opened via Google search bar

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 03:47 AM PST

    http://imgur.com/a/98fvQAs

Image explains it better than words. On my mother's Huawei Mate 8 (i think), every time she uses the Google search bar widget to open a website, the top of the screen darkens in a black-to-transparent gradient and a white navigation-like bar with nothing with the Google "G" logo at the bottom. It doesn't seem to have any button, or if there is, it doesn't react to anything.

The screen and website work perfectly fine, but this makes reading and looking at stuff way harder.

I've been trying to look for settings, both from the app and from Android, with no luck. I also can't replicate this on my phone. Any idea what this is and how to get rid of it?

MalwareBytes says a "Phone" app on my Android phone is infected with PUP.Riskware.HiddenAds.YRHX

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 07:54 PM PST

MalwareBytes says a "Phone" app on my Android phone is infected with PUP.Riskware.HiddenAds.YRHX and wants me to remove it. Under Settings > Apps & Notifications I've got two "Phone" apps: one with the phone icon (4.90 MB) and the other with a weird icon of a half-disc with eyes and antennae (264 MB), which is the app MalwareBytes wants me to remove.

If I remove it, will I lose all of my contacts, numbers, etc.?

2012 Ford Escape sync says Bluetooth is connected but no audio

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 12:23 PM PST

I have a 2012 escape limited and I can successfully connect my phones bluetooth to the car. I can even choose bluetooth media stream and select my exact phone. Unfortunately though whenever I go to play music or any audio from my phone (YouTube, downloaded music) none of it goes through. When looking at my phone the audio is indeed playing but none of it is going through. Oddly enough if I connect the bluetooth and I get a text message or a call the notification goes through the car speakers and I can speak on the phone through the car as well. The bluetooth has been working great and out of seemingly nowhere its not working. So far I have tried all the obvious solutions of turning it on and off again, restarting phone, deleting all bluetooth devices and re pairing my phone. It's the only bluetooth device paired and connected as well.

How do I stop Google Photos from backing up screenshots

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 08:31 AM PST

The issue here is that Xiaomi stores screenshots and screen recordings in the DCIM folder, of which, Google Photos cannot not backup. And it gets annoying since they fill up my feed and cloud storage. So I'm wondering, is there any way to fix this? Thanks!

    Huawei Mate 20 Pro

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 08:08 AM PST

I purchased a new Mate 20 Pro from eBay and unfortunately assumed it was unlocked or AT&T compatible. I've had the IMEI checked out online and it isn't blacklisted or stolen. When I install the SIM card from my old phone, my account gets locked and I have to go to the AT&T store to get my account reinstated. I go back to my old phone and everything is fine until I put the SIM card back in the new Huawei. I checked with T-mobile and they say it isn't their phone. This was a new phone and as it's GSM exclusive, it can only be AT&T or T-mobile. Anybody have a clue what's going on?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 03:44 AM PST

Hello, some time ago I noticed that just my personal gmail account is was getting push notifications, despite that both of them are with notifications turned on.

I can't exactly say if this happened after an gmail app update, but this started after a while.

I'm using a Moto G8 Plus, I'm the only one with this problem? Someone out there already got this and who you managed to fix this.

Appropriate class for scheduled operations in my app

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 07:26 AM PST

Before downvoting, I know a similar question has been asked here but this was seven years ago. A lot has changed in the Android world since then. My application is similar to the one described in the question. My application will fetch time and date from the server and then will ring the alarm 5 minutes before the scheduled time.

The suggestion in the old answer is given for AlarmManager. But on one of the Android reference pages, it was written that using AlarmManager inappropriately can lead to excessive battery usage, and for some applications, it will be better to use WorkManager or something called JobSchedular. I really couldn't understand what the difference between them was. (although I've seen this page)

I really don't want to use methods that might be on the way to be depreciated or are already depreciated in my app. It would be really helpful if someone could explain to me what these different classes actually do and which is the most recommended method to implement for which application scenario.

Also, this was also given in the docs:

Note: Beginning with API 19 (

    Build.VERSION_CODES.KITKAT

) alarm delivery is inexact: the OS will shift alarms in order to minimize wakeups and battery use. There are new APIs to support applications which need strict delivery guarantees; see

    setWindow(int, long, long, android.app.PendingIntent))

    and

    setExact(int, long, android.app.PendingIntent))

    . Applications whose

    targetSdkVersion

is earlier than API 19 will continue to see the previous behavior in which all alarms are delivered exactly when requested.

So if even the AlarmManager won't do exact time tasks, then what will be the difference in AlarmManager vs WorkManager if the work will be deferred. Thanks in advance for help.

internet connection keeps dropping, only rebooting helps

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 06:45 AM PST

This problem started around a week ago on my Pixel 5, Android 11 phone.

Several times a day, maybe more often and I don't always see it right away, the internet connection is gone. This shows in e-mails and other messages not coming in, pages in browsers not loading, feeds not loading and the like.

Switching between WiFi networks, or between WiFi and mobile data doesn't make a difference. Both look normal, bars and all. No flight or bedtime mode involved. The only thing that helps is rebooting the phone.

I updated Android, no difference. The build number is RQ2A.210305.006.

What could that be, and how on earth do I fix this?

Why don't my phones show Beidou/BDS signal

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 06:38 AM PST

I tried using apps like GPSTest and GPS Info to see what GNSS my phone actually uses. I can see GPS and GLONASS on a Moto Z3 Play, and GPS, GLONASS, and GALILEO on a OnePlus N10 5G. Both phones should also support the Beidou system, so I'm wondering if there is anything preventing these phones from seeing/using Beidou/BDS

Cellular data/calls/texts shut off and on at specific times

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 06:03 AM PST

Trying to help my older brother who is not very tech-savvy, and have never seen this on any Android phones I have owned for the past 10 years. At specific times of the day, his cellular data shuts off, and he also cannot make or receive calls or texts. It shuts off at 10 p.m. and comes back on at 6 or 7 a.m. This has been happening the last few days. I'm thinking it's some type of setting but I'm not sure. I know he has a ZTE brand phone and his service is with Cricket.

Asus Zenfone 2 suddenly stopped working after not using it for months can I still fix it?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 09:59 PM PST

I brought a new phone thats why I stopped using it and when I check it, it suddenly stopped working and can't open it.

I've been using my Asus Zenfone 2 for 4 years. It has broken power button but it doesnt bother me much since I can double tap it to open anyway. Other than that it doesnt have any problem, screen is ok no cracks, it was charging properly and it didnt got wet either since its only sitting on my desk for months but I had to use it now.

How can I open it? I've seen tutorials on youtube but it requires power button, I wonder if theres other way without using power button to open it.

I wanna know if I can still open it myself before going to a repair shop.

Websites asking for device/data permission when using VR

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 03:12 AM PST

Hi all, I've got a Pixel phone which I use with a simple VR headset (cardboard) and have noticed that on most websites (aside from youtube) when going through chrome, I have to give the following pop-up permission before being able to toggle VR mode (the little goggle symbol):

"randomsite.com wants to use your virtual reality device and data"

I'm a bit wary of doing so, because I'm not sure what exactly that entails. However, it happens on pretty much every major website that uses it own media player (most news sites etc).

I guess my question is, what does clicking 'ok' in this case allow? Am I giving permission to a massive data invasion of all my contacts, messages etc. or is it simply a case of the site being told: this is a chrome browser loaded on a pixel phone?
