Are fast-chargers ruining batteries slowly but surely? Are 5W (5V, 1A) chargers the way to go?

My Pixel XL was bought in late-2016. I'll be buying a new phone either this Summer or Fall.

I guess I wouldn't bother with buying a new phone if Android 11 was available for this phone.

Nevertheless, for the past few months, I've been facing random battery shutdowns on this Pixel XL.

My 2 friends both have 4 year old iPhone 6S Pluses and have not faced any battery issues whatsoever.

I think it's the 15-18W charger that comes in the box that is to blame?

Galaxy S10 tried to update to Android 11, now stuck in bootloop

How to stop my audio from jumping between devices?

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 10:09 AM PST

Here's the situation. I have an Android phone (Galaxy S20+, latest Android updates.) I have two things I routinely connect the phone to. Several times a day I connect it to the car to listen to music while driving. Once per day I connect it to my bluetooth earbuds while working out.

Here's the problem. If I'm in the middle of the workout and the car is running and in range (such as if my wife starts the car, or she happens to drive by the house), the audio switches from the earbuds to the car, usually right in middle of my workout. My workout involves extended heart tracking via hand sensors, and if I let go of the sensors long enough to fiddle with the bluetooth settings to get the music back, it spoils the readings for that workout. It is happening several times per week.

How do I solve this? How do I get it to not turn off my earbuds right in middle of a workout with having to disable the car connection every single day (and the car's menus for bluetooh are a nightmare to navigate.)

Android 10 broke local music playback with OK Google. Is there a fix?

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 05:31 AM PST

On Android 9, I could say "OK Google, play The Killers" and the phone would open my music player (Musicolet) and start playing The Killers. Perfect.

Since upgrading to Android 10, saying this just opens youtube. I can say "OK Google, open Musicolet" and it will open the app but not play anything, or if there's a playlist that's paused I can say "OK Google, resume music playback" and it will start playing from where it was. But I can't select music or start a new album once the previous one has finished, which makes it largely useless for controlling music whilst I'm driving which was the only time I ever really used OK Google.
As far as I can tell this is because the app doesn't register itself as a music service with Google assistant - the settings page says "You can ask your assistant to use any music app on your phone or tablet", but I cannot get it to work.
I'm happy to use a different app, all it needs to do is read music from my SD card and paly it without trying to cram subscription services down my throat, but I've tried a handful of others and they all suffer the same problem.

Trying to track down an Android app causing trojan alerts in my network log

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 09:06 AM PST

My home network uses Unifi and has threat management/logging enabled.

I'm getting regular alerts about a possible trojan on one of the devices on my network (my phone). I believe this is likely a false positive but would still like to find out which app is causing these alerts to be generated.

Here's what the alerts look like...

Threat Management Alert 1: A Network Trojan was Detected. Signature ET MOBILE_MALWARE XML Style POST Of IMEI International Mobile Equipment Identity. From: 192.168.1.30:43173, to: 51.141.72.214:80, protocol: TCP

The local IP is my android phone, and the remote IP is to a service called https://humleyai.com/ which appears to be a legit ai helpdesk (chatbot) provider.

I'm guessing that it's just a case that one of the apps I have uses this service and is periodically sending my user info (including my IMEI) to this service.

TL;DR: What's the best/easiest way of finding out which app on the phone is contacting this IP/host so I can remove it or disable the userdata reporting features?

Disney+ displays notification in list of Play Store app updates. How to prevent this?

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 07:54 AM PST

In the list of available app updates, the Disney app apparently can display messages. In this case it's trying to promote a VIP thing. I've never seen this type of notification in the Play app before and I strongly dislike it.
I can easily close it, but how can I disable these things completely from showing again? Disney app was already blocked from displaying notifications before this, so it has never even shown a regular notification until this new thing showed up.

Keeping Bluetooth and notification sounds separate?

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 11:40 AM PST

Hey. I have a pixel 4a 5g. What I want to do is make it so that if I'm playing music to a Bluetooth speaker, notification sounds still come through the phone itself and don't interrupt the music (ie lower the volume when they play). Any way to do this globally?

Mi Control Center Live Screen Mirroring Permission

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 11:14 AM PST

I'm using the app "mi control center". If you want to use the live blur background for this, you need to enable screen capture. It automatically asks you as soon as you enable the background variant. I can enable it and give the permission but it only works very delayed. For example if i want to pull the control center down from the top it won't do anything. If you want to use the live blurry background for this, you need to enable screen capture. I can enable it and give the permission but it doesn't work properly. For example if i want to pull the control center down from the top it won't do anything. Only if i tap the screen right after I pulled down or pull down twice it opens. So there's something wrong and it does'nt work like its supposed to. The exact same thing works on my samsung galaxy tab s with android 6 but it doesnt work for my galaxy a50 with android 10. I'm wondering if there's something wrong with the system settings or so. So what can I do to make live blur work? I'm wondering if there's something wrong with my settings in the app, on the phone or if something is wrong with my phone in general. So is there anything i can do to fix it?

(NEED HELP)CONNECTION ISSUE WITH JBL TUNE500BT

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 02:16 AM PST

I have JBL Tune 500BT Bluetooth headphones that I've been using for about 2-3 years with no issue at all. I got myself a new phone (BlackView BV9900) for Christmas. It works perfectly but I encountered a serious issue. When I connect my headphones, they stay connected for like 5-10 minutes and then suddenly disconnect and reconnect (I can see the LED turning white then blue then white again etc...). I first thought I just had to unpair, which is what I did, but it didn't work. I tried to reset my headphones, turn off battery saver but it didn't work either. It's absolutely frustrating. Please help me 🆘.

Edit: I have a jbl go 2 speaker and it doesn't disconnect from my new phone or my PC. Plus, I connected my headphones on my PC, my old phone and it doesn't disconnect either.

    Reopen closed tabs in chrome

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 10:57 AM PST

I accidentally misclicked and closed all 92 open tabs in chrome (on Android). I was not fast enough to click undo in the bottom bar which seems to stay there for about 0.3 seconds.

Is there anyway I can get these tabs back?

Of course these tabs have been open for a while so they are not visible in the top of search history.

Need to get into old smartphone with family pictures

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 10:37 AM PST

I know how this sounds but hear me out. My wife has an old Motorola Moto X with pictures of her late father on it, but she doesn't remember the password.

Does anyone know of any way to get past the login password? I have a good amount of technical know-how. I have a USB-OTG cable, can try booting to ADB, whatever.

I promise the phone isn't stolen. My wife bought it and wants to get the pictures off. This was in 2013, before I knew a lot about backup solutions.

I can post pictures of the phone if neecessary.

Play Store active use battery drain

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 10:36 AM PST

Hey guys for some reason Play Store has been in active use for a lot of time and has been eating up my battery. I checked stats for the play store and it was in active use for around 5 hours even though I never actually used the app for that long. The same thing occurred with youtube, but then for youtube it was background usage instead of active use, I watched youtube for around 15 mins and after that I just closed the app and kept it on open in my recents menu but then 2 to 3 hours later I see that the app was in background use for over 1 hour 15 mins . I have no idea on how to fix this, but I need to fix this because it drains a lot of battery overnight and its not good. If you have any fixes for this please let me know.

    Thanks

    Google Chrome and Yahoo

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 06:44 AM PST

From my computer, on Chrome welcome page, with favorites bookmarks, where my Yahoo stands there, usually, when clicking it opened directly my Yahoo Email without login.

Now since 3 weeks ago up to now, Yahoo ALWAYS asks me to check up my Login, and my open Yahoo App from phone or tablet to unlock by Sliding "YES" and show me the 4digit code that i need to fill-in my computer's Chrome Yahoo Login.

How to STOP that verification Login by setting up to auto Login, once for all ? Actually, to put it back to how it was, when it was fine...

    Any ideas ?

When phone restarts, it randomly grays out apps.

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 10:23 AM PST

I have an old LG Tribute HD and when I restart it, some apps are randomly grayed out. I tap a grayed-out app and it says "App isn't available". It's happened twice before and I usually just redownload the app from the play store. This is the third time it has happened and the apps that are grayed out are different each time. This time it grayed out Messages, Google Photos, Gmail, and the play store but it didn't gray out Discord even though it did that last time? Does anyone know why this happens and/or how to fix this?

Using a dual sim phone as a hotspot

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 09:52 AM PST

I would like to use a phone as a backup internet connection..i.e. a hotspot..

How do you select which sim is used for the hotspot?

And I assume that if wifi is on then the phone will use wifi for data and only use the cell connection when another device is connected via hotspot? Or is it not possible to use wifi when hotspot is enabled?

    Troubleshooting Smart Devices

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 09:31 AM PST

    "Smart" phone is a Galaxy S9+, running Android 10;

    Car stereo is an old Pioneer MVH-350BT with BT3 (supports iPhone 4 !!!);

Headphones are Sony WH-1000XM3 with BT4.2.

    #

Running Android Auto, I get p155ed o77 with the phone's will-it-won't-it recognize the stereo as a Smart Device.

So I set up the headphones as a Smart Device and these seemed to unlock the phone reliably.

OK, thinks I, problem with old BT version in the car, thinks I. Loads of search results for "unlock your phone with NFC" sees I, ho ho ho. 10 NFC tags, bought I, ho ho ho. All web sites, when open, show dates of 2015 ho ho ho. No need to maintain your websites, guys.

Apps > Show system apps > Bluetooth > Clear data. Pair with headphones OK, audio OK. Set up as Smart Device, and ... nothing. The headphones won't unlock the phone.

Android 10? More like Android Beta. Does anyone have any ideas? BFF.

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 04:39 AM PST

I was taking a shower while listen to some songs on my phone's speaker (no the phone isn't wet) after that I opened it and paused Spotify and tried to charge it but the screen won't open its pure black. The phone itself is working sounds, fingerprint etc but the screen stays black. Last two months ago the screen was broken and was replaced after 2 weeks this happened. Any thoughts what might be the problem?

    How to increase RAM usage?

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 07:50 AM PST

I'm using the OnePlus 3T, going strong in its 5th year. It's only using about 50% of its RAM which is 6GB. I feel like it's underutilizing its full capacity. Had it used full RAM it would have loaded apps faster, I presume. The phone is not rooted. What should I do increase the RAM usage? Would it increase the phone's speed if it were using more RAM? Or I shouldn't be bothered about it at all.

HELP! Samsung S9 keeps restarting randomly and overheating

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 07:47 AM PST

Woke up this morning and my phone was incredibly hot while charging. Unplugged it, turned it off, and then when I turn it back on, even if I don't do anything and just sit on the home screen, the battery gets hotter and hotter and eventually the phone will restart on its own. It will let me use the phone for 1-2 minutes and then restart again while the battery continues to get hotter. Even if I don't do anything on the home screen, no open apps, the random restarts still happen.

I've cleared the cache and put my phone in safe mode and both of these things keep happening. Wondering if there are other options before trying to do a factory reset of the phone?

Android system notification keeps popping up like every 3-5 seconds, switching between usb connected and disconnected while cable isn't plugged in. Sometimes it goes away for a couple of hours, but eventualy comes back. Should I just turn off the notification somehow and ignore it, or there might be problems with port or something?

    Pbm with Samsung S8

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 06:26 AM PST

    I'm facing 2 problems with : - HotSpot when connecting/disconnecting.
    - Samsung Internet when it cant load properly a page (wether in browser or an email's link transfered to same browser) because an ADS pops out and blocks it.

For info, before all these problems, i needed to get a Darkmode to be installed for visual issues and ended up by using a Dark theme, and my samsung hotliner highly recommend me to RESET my phone all problems appeared since then. The irony is, before that "-mistake", my pgone was always working well !

Need help from you, coz its great phone, and want to fix it ! Thanks
