Add Play Store To Apps/Home Screen of Google TV (new Chromecast)

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 06:34 AM PST

As some of you might know, Google TV now has a proper version of the Play Store, however there is no good way to get to it. Here is my solution - using this tool, you can make a shortcut 'app' that launches some other installed app, and it will show up on your home screen properly. So I made one for the play store and it works beautifully.

If you don't want to make your own, you can install mine. Enjoy :)

    MiBox 3.Android 9

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 04:33 PM PST

Ever since my MiBox 3 updated to android 9. There have been a series of problems with temporary fixes.

There is no ethernet all of the sudden. Just unplug the ethernet adapter and plug back in.

    No audio after sleep. Reboot

Video play back stuck it endlessly loading after sleep. Reboot

Remote not responding or frozen at random times. Reboot.

I was wondering is there a permanent fix/update. Because after time these problems are really annoying and I don't want to keep doing these temporary.

Android 9: Is there a way to change TV settings without switching the HDMI input

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 07:10 AM PST

I currently have an old LG LCD TV with their older firmware where it was possible to access "quick settings" when you move the Magic Remote at the bottom corner.
So you are able to use the remote even when the Source was HDMI and were able to change display/sound settings on the fly and see the direct new settings.

Is this possible with Android 9 as well?
I'm considering the Sony A8H (Android 9) as my next TV but if such a thing is not possible with Android TV I might eventually choose the LG CX because I know it's possible there.

I don't want to be forced change from HDMI to change settings in a fullscreen menu on my TV (I can't even remember when I wasn't on HDMI the last time and switching back afterwards)

    AndroidTV games question

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 05:33 AM PST

If you buy a game for AndroidTV, will they also work on an android phone like how IOS do it, or are AndroidTV games locked to just the TV?

Also, do you know if it's possible to use a Stadia controller to play AndroidTV games?

How to get rid of the annoying pause screen that takes up half the screen on YouTube app?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 03:14 PM PST

Whenever we pause a video on YouTube there's a control overlay that takes up half the screen and makes the bottom half black. It becomes really annoying when you try to pause for the subtitles or to follow along instructions.

The worst thing is it also takes a few seconds to hide away so ends up you got to rewind the video a 10 seconds as well.

    Terrible UI design.

    MiBox S freeze

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 01:09 AM PST

Hi We have a MiXox S and we have to power cycle it multiple times daily. It freezes, shows black screen in Youtube or Netflix and reboots randomly. Has anyone found a fix for this?

I'm considering upgrading to ChromeCast with Google TV or Nividia Shield. Do you have any suggestions?

Android TV - Can I plug in my Chromecast ultra to run Stadia?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 11:36 AM PST

I am trying to decide what type of TV to buy. Can I plug in my Chromecast ultra to run Stadia (like I would for any other TV)? I know there are side-loading instructions, but that seems really fiddly, and maybe I should buy a Roku TV or some other Smart TV instead.

Android or HTPC for my preferences?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 02:39 PM PST

I'm wondering if I need a htpc or an android TV device for my desired setup

I want to set up an NAS for movies and be able to watch them on multiple tvs through my house. I've got the NAS that I want but I can't tell what would suit me best for actually playing the movies. Originally I wanted to buy a small computer to run Kodi. I don't want to build a computer but I'm savvy enough to do so or download programs for my purposes

Ideally, I'd like recommendations for a device that can access a network folder and play movies from there, thanks!

[BRAVIA] Remote is not changing channels

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 01:30 PM PST

All the buttons are working EXCEPT the channel changing buttons. It's been like this for quite some time now. Anyone know how to fix this?

Hi. Does anybody know what the title of this app is? It is integrated to the built-in Live Channels app and just like TVirl, it has its own icon on the app which serves as a clue what it is.

Looking for recommendation on an Android TV box that supports 4K HDR AND the HDMI port supports ARC (Audio Return Channel). Currently my PI 3 does ARC but no 4k. It's really nice to control my reciever's audio with my PI remote and enjoy 4K HDR goodness.

I want to be able to use my earphones, like I can with my Xbox or a Roku, can an android TV box do this too?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 08:16 AM PST

Got an old 1080p TV which I use in my bedroom. Nice picture on it but it's not smart or anything. I'm currently using my old Xbox one just to stream Netflix and YouTube. It's overkill for what I use it for and it's pretty loud so I'm going to sell it and get some streaming device.

I'd rather have android TV though I was leaning towards a Roku as it can send the audio to your phone. This is important as I do most watching late at night so have to use earphones. The Xbox works perfect for this as I just plug them into the controller. I'm assuming android TV has Bluetooth so I guess I could just get a Bluetooth receiver?
