Why does android not have a pre-installed app for viewing the stock market?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 12:46 PM PST

Why does android not come with an official pre-installed app for the stock market. The iPhone 3Gs had onw back in 2009, so why can't we get one 12 years later? With the masive influx of people to the stock market I believe it would be in their best interest to make one. I would just love one with customisable widgets that jave the same appearance as all the other official widgets because this just looks ugly.

Lost lots of notes in Google Keep due to editing conflicts issue

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 08:13 AM PST

Hi guys. I apologize if this isn't the correct subreddit to ask this type of question. If you think this post is more appropriate in another subreddit, I would appreciate it if you could redirect me to one of them. Thanks.

So since I've moved from iOS to Android I have been using Google Keep as a way to store all my ideas in a notes format. I selected this particular app since I thought it was convenient that I could edit the notes from both my laptop and my phone and for it to able to save those changes to both devices. When I had decided to use notes to write some stuff in today I had noticed an error popped up when I opened up one of my notes stating "conflicting edits found". I don't think this has ever appeared before for me so I was confused. It gave me two edits of notes and asked which one I wanted to keep, however for some odd reason when I had tried to select "keep both" it wasn't recognizing it, so I just left it on the default edit it had selected, however I did not confirm the change, I just merely decided to cancel the option instead. When I exited the note I had tried to access it again hoping that it was all a bug and that it would revert to normal, but it didn't, so I decided to cancel the option to select between edits again, however, when I had exited for the second time, I had gotten a little pop-up stating that there were some issues with the app and It had asked me if I would like to refresh. Of course, I thought that it would revert things back to normal, however when I clicked the refresh bar and accessed my notes again, I had noticed that the app changed my notes involuntarily to the default edit it had selected, practically erasing 3 months of ideas and personal diaries.

I tried to search up if there are any ways to restore it through the app, but according to Google support, If the changes weren't located in either archive or deleted, then they're pretty much gone forever. I had gotten another idea to restore my phone (Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro) and all the apps data to a previous backup, but that all soon got shut down when I realized that unless I decided to do so, the phone wouldn't do any automatic backups. At this point I lost hope, but there was one thing that kept me going.

When I go to Settings -> Additional Settings -> Backup and restore, at the bottom, right below Help and feedback, I had noticed there's a Google Account tab, which when I clicked on it, showed me this.

Is there any possible chance I could somehow use this backup to restore my notes and my phone to that exact time before the change happened?

Also, I think the reason why this issue may have happened is because recently I had decided to turn off some syncing settings regarding the google account that's used for my PC and phone, which may have indirectly lead to this problem.

TL,DR: Google Keep notes editing conflict caused me to lose stuff, wondering if I could use a the backup in the image I linked in order to restore my device and the app's data to a previous save.

    Constant intrusive ads

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 11:16 AM PST

So I factory reset my Galaxy S9 2 weeks ago due to a memory issue and everything was fine. Then about 5 or so days ago, I started getting very intrusive advertisements. Full screen covering ads, ads that open any internet browser I use and I have to manually exit them, scroll ads along the top and bottom of my screen, ect.

I've had this phone for like 2 years and this has never happened. It seems to be the launcher app Samsung One UI Home doing it suddenly. I've tried other launcher apps from the playstore but nothing has fixed what's going on.

Just typing this over 40 seconds has brought up at least 3 ads. I can't even text my grandmother or grandfather without being buffeted by advertisements.

Does anyone know how to stop this?

Malware keeps popping up random websites

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 10:09 AM PST

Need help getting rid of some malware, trying to avoid a factory reset if possible. I'm on a Galaxy S9+.

Saturday morning, I had a notification in the pull-down menu saying to click to claim your gift. I have a couple apps that have similar notifications so I clicked it and nothing happened. Ever since then, I get a pop-up webpage every 5 minutes or so. Anything from a fake Amazon site saying I won a PS5 to random porn websites.

At first it was only happening in Chrome, so I disabled Chrome and it started happening in Brave. Force stopped and cleared my cache in both browser apps, ran Malware Bytes, looked for anything suspicious in running processes but so far nothing has worked. Any ideas before I have to do a factory reset?

Which phones can still be rooted?

My mobile 4G/signal dies and won't reconnect until I restart my phone. (Oneplus 8T)

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 08:19 AM PST

Its a weird problem, but even in areas I know have 4g/5g or even just voice connections my phone will get no signal whatsoever, even if i use airplane mode to cycle wireless connections.

Restarting fixes the problem for the day but at some point it dies again and just wont reconnect at all.

Any ideas? Brand new Oneplus 8T

Need HONEST REVIEW about MIUI please

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 07:07 AM PST

    Hi y'all

I'm looking to purchase a Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro. Spec wise it's a beast, but I'm wondering if the software is good? Is it gonna have any issue (stutter, lag, etc...) after a while. Also, does MIUI comes with bloatware. I usually compare to Oxygen OS as I had a really good impression with how fluid it was, so I'm wondering if MIUI is that close to Oxygen OS

UI 3 and full screen apps

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 06:56 AM PST

I have the Note 10+ (not rooted) and after the UI 3 update apps such as Youtube TV stop and time out after 30 mins with the screen turning off. Before this update the app could run all night (background noise for me). I've already uninstalled/installed app, and check permissions, but I cant seem to fix it. Ive gone to settings as well, and I cant make it stay on longer than 30 mins. Anyone have suggestions? Thanks!

Revert from Android 11 to Android 10 on Samsung Note 10+ to fix issues

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 05:14 AM PST

Hey guys, so, here's the deal:

My Note10+ updated to Android 11+ OneUI3 and it's crap. As soon as i updated, it triggered a permanent "moisture detected" error, which is still persisting (3 days now) and I have to buy a wireless charger just to use my phone. And wireless charging is just so damn slow and annoying.

The Moisture detected notification is there permanently. Whether something is plugged in or not. I've tried:
Stopping android system (it doesn't even seem to 'force stop' properly anymore, not sure why?)
Clearing cache + data (and also force stopping) USBsettings
Cleaning the charging port with really small stuff, also tried a small amount of rubbing alcohol.
    Tried Safe mode.
    And just about anything else.

Usually, I would boot into recovery mode if I had this issue and clear the cache, but since Android 11 requires you to plug something in to access recovery mode... Moisture Detected gives that option the middle finger - I can't even hard reset my phone. I've tried plugging it just as I start the phone, or even plugging in headphones, etc. nothing works. So, it seems that I literally can't do anything.

So, is there a way i can go back to Android 10 so I can access recovery mode to attempt fixing? Or is there a work around for the "plug in your phone to access recovery mode" bs?

TLDR; Android 11 + OneUI3 update caused a permanent "moisture detected" issue, and I can't fix it. Trying to go back to Android 10 so I can attempt fixing it through recovery mode. Any ideas are appreciated at this point, I have no clue what to do.

Reddit videos are being saved to my phone somehow

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 03:43 AM PST

So I'm not sure if this is normal, but I just found this out after downloading my pictures to my computer. I only started using reddit this year I joined a few subs, r/idiotsincars, r/minecraft among others that post videos. When I just went to put my phone pictures on the pc I noticed I have a bunch of videos from various subreddits as well as random video ads, which as far as I'm aware I couldn't "save" those. For example there's a video of a guy playing Minecraft, and next to that a video ad for the Samsung Galaxy s21, they're now on my computer. I have occasionally taken a screenshot or shared a post (using the link, not downloading it) and have no idea why this crap is on my phone. Everything seems to be from the last few days (after Android 11 update), or from June 2018, which is before I even owned this phone.

I'm running Android 11 on a Galaxy s10+. I'm really hoping this isn't some sort of new "feature" because it obviously takes up a lot of storage.

By the way none of these videos or ads show up in my photo gallery, they only showed up after importing my pictures to my PC, using the default "photos" app on my PC (windows 10). While browsing through the folders on my phone, I can't find these files either, but they're definitely there.

Wrong aspect ratio during video call on Signal and Telegram.

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 02:45 AM PST

Whenever i try to video call my partner her image appears stretched, i haven't tried any other contact but this happens in both signal and telegram. Using Duo or whatsapp the aspect ratio is right and we don't have that problem. Is there a setting or something that i'm missing? I have a galaxy s10 (if that matters in any way.). Thanks

    Help Android virus!!!!

Hey, Today as soon as I waked up, I received an email that ressembled those of my government. I inadvertently clicked on the link to download what I thought was a certification. After the download it simply vanished and its nowhere to be found. After thoroughly analysing the email I got to the conclusion that it is fake and probably a virus. Can anyone help me with this? I already factory reseted my phone, is it possible that something's still in it?

Why are Custom ROMS never available on newer Android phones?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 07:17 PM PST

There are a lot of great custom ROMs out there like Resurrection Remix and Havoc OS, but they are usually only available on older phones like Redmi, Motorola or Google Pixel 2. Is there any reason that they can't be on newer devices like the Galaxy S20, OnePlus 8T, Oppo Find X2 Pro, or even the new Samsung Galaxy S21 series?

    Bulk Whatsapp chat backup/export/download

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 09:29 PM PST

    Hi All,

I've been trawling through the Internet and multiple subreddits but I haven't found a solution on how to do this: How can I download/export/save all my chats from Whatsapp. The export should be human-readable.

So far, I've mostly found most of the solutions are either obsolete or recommend the individual chat export. I have a fair volume of Whatsapp chats that I need to backup and individually exporting them is only a last resort option.

    Solutions that I've already explored:

Are there any working solutions to backup Whatsapp chats for a non-rooted, Android 10 device with a Macbook running Mac OS Big Sur?

Thank you in advance for your advice and help.

Is there any way to get the android navigation buttons to stay on screen permanently?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 12:40 AM PST

My dad had an older Android phone with permanent buttons below the display similar to this. His phone finally died and I got him a Moto G Power.

He likes the phone but he's struggling with the lack of permanent navigation buttons. If any app hides the buttons or goes fullscreen he can't figure out how to get back to the home screen. He either doesn't remember how to swipe down from the top to get the buttons to appear, or does it but takes too long to spot them and press the home or back buttons. So whenever he wants to get back to the home screen, he just holds down the power button to restart the phone now.

There's not any way to get the navigation buttons to stay on permanently, is there?

Could I have accidently changed BIOS settings by pressing the wrong buttons?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 04:43 PM PST

I was forcefully putting the tight case on my new phone and the case hit buttons that caused coding language to show on the screen--BIOS?

Anyways I couldn't get out of it, so I force restarted several times until finally the normal android came up.

This was on a brand new phone--samsung a10e (straight talk)

My main concern is whether I could have inadvertenly lowered security settings, making my phone more vulnerable to attack?
