| Can I connect to my own tethered hotspot? Posted: 25 Feb 2021 03:09 AM PST So, I have the following issue: I have a robot vacuum cleaner (ecovacs) that can be controlled with an app. The communication between app and robot works when the robot and phone are connected to the same WLAN network, which, in turn, should be connected to the internet. Now, in my case, I only have mobile internet at home, and I just tether my phone (Moto G8 Power, Android 10) to use internet on my pc. This is fine in most cases, since 4G is good enough and I have an unlimited data plan. But it doesn't work with my robot: I can, of course, connect the robot to my phone's WiFi hotspot, but then I can't use the app on the same phone - I'd need a second phone, on which I would install the app, and connect it to the hotspot generated by the first phone. But this is unwieldy. Is there a way in which I can have my phone both generate the hotspot, and be a client of that same hotspot? I have an SD card with plenty of space, but the only thing taking up space in my internal storage is my apps. I've tried going to apps & notifications to view my apps but there is no option to move them to my SD card. I also went into the storage tab and it was the same thing. Also, 12GB of my internal storage is being taken up by my phone's system files. That seems like a lot, is there a way to lower that? Idk if I'm missing something here. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 25 Feb 2021 06:45 AM PST The only two I know of - and believe me I've tried over 50 chromium based android browsers - support chrome extensions - Kiwi and Yandex. Technically only one of these two fully support them too, yandex started getting "not compatible" instead of "add extension to chrome" in the past year or two. Why is this? obviously the software developers are more than capable of integrating chrome extensions, aren't they? Or is there something differently drastic with Mobile vs Desktop when it comes to handling .crx files? Personally, I don't think this is the case. I think the case is that Google is purposely discouraging developers against adding extension support due to the high prevalence of effective adblocker extensions interfering with the massive revenue they haul in from google ad services. | Posted: 25 Feb 2021 08:48 AM PST Tl:dr after a restart today my phone has decided to sort anything I attempt to attach to emails, texts, uploads, etc by oldest first. Anyone got any ideas on where to even look to reverse this? edit: correction, it's actually swapped the order of which gallery is being sorted first and is putting the archived photos off my old phone first. still no idea why this is the case though. edit 2: solved it. has something to do with the SD card deciding it's primary storage or something. I dunno, I'm a forester not a software engineer. unmounting and mounting the sd card fixed the issue. e3: nevermind, temporary solution. problem persists. [link] [comments] |
| I messed up Big Time (Accidental Factory Reset) Posted: 25 Feb 2021 12:12 PM PST I know that there are probably thousands of posts on here with the same silly issue, however, I really need to know what to do in this situation. My phone (Samsung Galaxy J7 V) somehow did a factory reset out of the blue and I lost all of my data aside from a few contacts I had backed up. Nothing else was backed up (to my knowledge) on the phone or through google. This happened less than 24 hours ago. What I should have done in this situation was not do anything to the phone, but I was stupid and started using it because it did this mid important conversation, and I had to reply because it was time-sensitive. This means that I redownloaded Textra, and sent maybe about 50-60 messages total to various contacts. I realize that I shouldn't have been using it if I want to get my data back, and I was wondering if there is any way that I still can. | Posted: 25 Feb 2021 03:23 AM PST Dear Android-users, today I saw a screen on my LG Power X2 I've never seen before. I laid my phone on top of another device (a kindle in a amazon case) and suddenly the screen went black and showed only the date and time and battery status in the top section of the screen. I wasn't able to find out what kind of screen this is, as the "screensaver" (didn't even know it existed) looks different and my lock-screen too. I thought it might have been caused by the magnet of the case, that my phone "thought" it had a case itself and that the most common one is one with a window to see time and date. But that doesn't seem to trigger it. And I can't recreate it all the time. I scrolled through my settings and saw stuff like android beam or nfc-stuff. But that's all deactivated. Could it still be some kind of indicator in terms of "you're able to connect with another device now"? It's not quite a "problem" and more a thing of interest, but I'd still like to know if some of you know what I mean. €dit: The blue-ish/purple-ish effect is the reflection of my desktop-wallpaper as I shot this image with a webcam. I already gave permission to mozzilla firefox, chrome, the file explorer app I have to install, but when I try install this app the menu always shows other apps but not an option to install the apk package I have. | Posted: 25 Feb 2021 11:08 AM PST Is there a way to find and copy over the original, unedited, 480p/960fps mp4/mov/whatever file to windows? I think it's absolutely ridiculous that I can't just do my own editing of the original raw footage. When I go to DCIM and copy the video file itself over, it shows as 19.4MB/30fps and copies the same slowed section that is on the phone, as if it actually exports the file before it even leaves the phone? Like bruh. I have my own fucking tools that I want to use on the computer to edit the footage as I like. I'm so sorry that sometimes I just don't press record early enough samsung and now the first half of the movement in question is irreversibly set as standard speed. | Posted: 25 Feb 2021 10:10 AM PST Hello. I've been having a problem with the way Samsung Music displays album art, and I haven't been able to find a working solution anywhere so far. All of my music is tagged manually, so I have all my albums, artists, album art, etc. customized. In some of my albums, I have multiple album arts. For example, Song A and Song B might both be tracks in Album X, but Song A will have Art A and Song B will have Art B. In iTunes, Apple's default music app, and various Windows desktop music apps, this doesn't cause a problem. The album will choose a random art from one of the songs in it as the album art, but each individual song displays the correct album art. The problem is that in Samsung Music, it chooses one art from within the album (seemingly at random) and assigns it to every other song in that album. The metadata of each file is still exactly as it should be. I don't believe I noticed this problem with other music players on Android (I'm using a Samsung Note). The only reason I am using Samsung Music is because it seems to be the only free music player for Android that accepts custom lyrics from the metadata. Any suggestions for how I could force the app to use the album art in the metadata? When I look straight at the .mp3 files on the device, the album art is displayed properly. Thanks for your time. | live Caption in whatsApp video calls on Android 11 tablets? Posted: 25 Feb 2021 09:47 AM PST For some context, my 81yo grandmother has suffered from hearing loss for her entire adult life. She's tried every hearing aid on the market, but as that technology has improved, her hearing has unfortunately been deteriorating. Throw COVID into the mix, and now the main way we communicate with her is via Facetime (I luckily gave her a cellular-enabled iPad prior to the pandemic that only had Facetime installed on it so we could keep in touch). As it looks like her quarantine and isolation will continue for at least a few more months, I was hoping to upgrade her to a device with Live Caption (was thinking for WhatsApp video calling), which I think could really improve her quality of life. Unfortunately, it's been a real challenge trying to map out which devices, other than Pixel phones, support this incredible technology. A 6-inch phone I think is too small for her at her age, and was looking for a larger-format tablet - she hasn't had any problems with the Facetime-only iPad. I just picked up a Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 (cellular enabled with Verizon) and updated the software to Android 11, where Live Caption is an option. Installed WhatsApp and found that Live Caption doesn't work during video calls (like it does on Pixel Phones) but does work for shared videos. Is there a workaround or another tablet that can currently support Live Caption during live WhatsApp video calls? (open to other video calling apps, subject to it being easy to "Call" her - ie all she has to do is accept the call; no calendar invites or anything complicated required). Thank you!!! What the phone does: - When powered on, unplugged, displays Vibrant and Samsung logo but stays there forever - When plugged into a wall while off, it attempts to show a battery charging symbol but freezes - The 4 "virtual" buttons at the chin of the phone never light up but they used to before it was bricked Here's what I've tried to do so far - Tried every combo possible to boot into recovery and download mode, keeps displaying Samsung and Vibrant logo - Tried installing Samsung USB Drivers and plugging it into my computer; doesn't detect it with and without the battery inside of it - Tried using ADB and Odin; phone is never detected with or without battery - Have not tried a jig but I am not able to Any ideas? Every time I (am forced to) update my UI, it seems like my phone thinks I'm a new user. I have to reset various biometrics, Google doesn't recognize my voice anymore and I've got to retrain it, all my data gets rearranged/relabeled, saved logins are reset, and all my app tweaks like allowed times, force stop and data usage get reset to default; some apps I even deleted months ago are suddenly reinstalled. This is on my Note10, but this has been going on for years for me. And I guess there are "patches" in between too so this is intermittently happening regularly. Is there a way I can just say "okay this phone is now how I want it and where I want it to stay" and block future updates? I'm leaning more towards a flip phone. [link] [comments] |
