Unsolvable mystery of USB disconnect sound randomly playing Posted: 21 Jan 2021 09:22 AM PST Hello, I'm posting here because I am at my wits end trying to solve this. Every now and then my phone randomly plays the USB disconnect sound, you know the sound your computer plays when the USB disconnects? It plays that at random. Initially it happened on my Huawei P8 Lite that was a few years old already so I didn't give it much thought as I was going to replace it. Then I got a Samsung A31 for Christmas and guess what?? It still happens on a brand new phone! Here's what I know about it to try to isolate the issue: It happens on this brand new phone USB port is not damaged Happens whether or not I have the charger or a cable plugged in Happens whether or nor I have earplugs on the headphone jack Happebs whether or not I am connected to WIFI, data and happens with bluetooth on and off. Happens still when paired to a bluetooth device Happens even if no app is running on the background Happens regardless of battery percentage Happens whether phone is on silent mode or ringing It is definately a system sound because if it plays while I am wearing earplugs you hear it through the earplugs. If music or video is playing it will lower the sound of the song/video for a second or two while it plays the sound. Android version is the most recent one. I have searched everywhere and I have not found one single person reporting this online. It doesnt happen so often that it makes the phone unusable but everytime I hear it it reminds me of it and I am so annoyed I haven't found the cause of this. Especially because I fix phones (software wise, not hardware repairs) for a living and I have this problem on my phone I can't solve. Do you guys have any idea what this could be? [link] [comments] |
Am I being hacked? "USB file transfer turned on" even when phone is not connected to computer Posted: 20 Jan 2021 10:23 PM PST Hi, I've googled this without success. I'm feeling really stressed about this right now. A few hours ago I noticed that my Pixel 2 was giving me a silent alert saying USB file transfer is in use. The trouble is the phone wasn't connected and hasn't been since several hours ago. I'm used to the message coming up when I am connected to my computer but I don't think I should see this when I am not connected. When I click on the notification it brings up the relevant settings page but everything is grayed out. What's more worrying is that WHEN I TURN OFF WI-FI and MOBILE DATA the silent alert goes away. I've tried restarting the phone and that does not change anything. Am I being hacked? Is my data being stolen? How do I tell? I only install things from the google play store and only ones which have a lot of users. Any help or advice appreciated. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Need help understanding why I got locked out of my phone and any possible workaround to get back in. Posted: 21 Jan 2021 12:34 PM PST To give some context: Today, I got locked out of my phone by simply installing an app required to enable company applications to work on my phone. Not sure if it matters but the application was called Company Portal. I usually user fingerprint based authorization on my android device (One Plus 7 Pro, don't recollect exact android version :/ ), but upon installing this application, the lockscreen defaulted to a password and no longer shows the fingerprint scanner. I'm not able to get in because this password was probably set months ago before I started using the fingerprint scanner. Things I've tried so far:
I have no idea why this happened, but if someone could help me understand what is going on and what I could do to get back into my phone without losing my data, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 21 Jan 2021 12:30 PM PST About 3 weeks ago, i would randomly get a notification saying "google assistant for your headphones is running in the background" dispite me never even using google assistant, these notifications would still show up even after i turned off Google assistant on my account. Now its been about 2 days and i haven't seen one, however something weirder is happening, sometimes even when im not touching my phone, it would raise the volume on its own (never lower for some reason) im 100% sure this isnt me by accident my hand is no where near the volume buttons (not even the ones on my earphones). And to add to that, sometimes when im watching a YouTube vid, it pauses itself, not an instant pause (like when you remove earphone mid-video) but like the screen is tapped then the video is paused. Ik alot of this sounds crazy but its been happening randomly the last couple of days and never before, i waited before posting just to be sure, at first i thought my phone was hacked, but why would they just do something minor and harmless. Thanks. [link] [comments] |

Android Messages heavily compresses pictures? Posted: 21 Jan 2021 12:19 PM PST So I switched from Samsung Messages to Android Messages on my S10 because I wanted the RCS features. But after switching, any pictures I get are heavily compressed to the point where it's not worth it. I switched back to Samsung Messages but the horrible compression is still here and it's driving me crazy. Before I switcged to Google Messages everything was fine. How can I fix this? I'll stick with either Samsung or Google Messages at this point [link] [comments] |
Posted: 21 Jan 2021 01:39 AM PST This one's got me in quite a pickle, and I'm starting to run out of options on what to try next. I can use any suggestions, advice, or direction one can give. I'll try to keep this brief (and will probably fail), yet detailed. My phone's make is LG, model K330, running Android version 5.1.1, kernel version 3.10.43, software K33010n. The carrier is T-Mobile, though I suspect knowing that won't help much. Micro SD card is a SanDisk 64 GB model. A few hours ago, I was downloading some PDF files from a website while in my Chrome browser (ver. 87.0.4280.141) to said SD card. Because of the nature of the site I was using, this was being done one file at a time. The files appeared to first be downloaded to the site, and then unto my device. All was going fairly well, sans the files occasionally failing to download correctly and leaving "com.Android.[insert file alphanumeric text here]" files in my download location on my SD card (this will be important in a bit). Now, for some reason (I suspect because of software support degradation), nearly every time I'd download any kind of file from Chrome, the download progress notification would never complete even though the file had finished downloading. Because of this, the only way to get rid of said notification was to hit "Cancel" on it, which would remove the notification yet leave the file intact. This has been something I've dealt with on this phone for a while, so it's something I've grown accumulated too. Ultimately, this isn't the problem I came here for, but I feel it caused me to enact the events that lead to the corrupted file. Anyways, I'm downloading PDF's, it's going at a steady pace. I get to one PDF, and suddenly this one is taking noticably longer to download off the site, compared to the others of similar size. I assumed it was do to a poor signal or server issue, so I didn't think too much of it. When the progress bar on the downloading notification finally reached the end and got hung up there like the previous notifications, I did the same thing as before and hit "Cancel". I go to the download location in my file explorer to check if it was indeed there like the previous files. This time, it was missing. The location was completely empty. I thought this strange, and assumed I must have hit "Cancel" too early and actually cancelled the download. So I try downloading it again, same process. This also takes a bit longer than the earlier ones. I check the location, and this time there's a single file. One that looked to me like one of those failed download files Chrome leaves that I mentioned earlier. I'm a bit annoyed at this point, so I try to delete the file so I can attempt again. But this time, a system notification comes up (one of the "white text on blueish-green background" ones that temporarily appear on the lower screen) telling me "Cannot delete files". Weird. I also notice that I now have a "memory too low" icon on the top bar of my screen. Also weird, since my SD card had ample space and was in no danger of being filed by the PDF's. But my phone's internal storage is filled to the brim with the OS and my applications. I'm used to running out of space while updating apps, so I tried doing what I normally do to fix that. I tried moving some images in my gallery that defaults to an internally stored album; into an album stored on the SD card. It gives me the "moving images" counter notification, but the images didn't move. No matter how many times I tried moving them, they stayed within their album. So I checked if any of my apps that could be moved to the SD card were on my internal storage. They default to there after updating, and sure enough there were two that could be moved. But when I tried to move either, I got a system notification that told me "Couldn't move app. Not enough storage space". Which, again, I should have had ample room for. Next, I tried checking the "Downloads" tab in the Chrome browser's menu. The file was listed there, as failed, so I tried deleting it. It got removed from that tab's list, yet remained in my file explorer. Finally, taking a guess at what to do next, I tried redownload the offending PDF file, hoping it would overwrite the file I was assuming was causing the issue. But after waiting for it to finish downloading, the filed failed right at the end. I'd get a notification saying I lacked "permission" to download the file, and if I try to reattempt the download in the "Downloads" tab, I'd get two identical notifications saying network error. I also noticed on further inspection that the files it was attempting to download had different alphanumeric names, and that the file type of what I thought was a "com.Android.[xxxx...]" file was actually a different file type, "pdf.crdownload". In my haste to delete it originally, I didn't notice that it was a different file type. Here's what I assumed happened:
I am at a loss of what to do to fix this. My computer that I would normally use to try to troubleshoot and repair and issue like this is temporarily out of commission due to a busted monitor. My housemate and I tried for a limited time on his laptop, but when couldn't even access the directory the file was in, it would even show up in Window 10's file explorer (though the card was left in the phone, with that itself hooked up to the laptop via USB, as we have no direct ways of connecting the card to the laptop). I was able to copy some of my media and files off the SD card and onto a USB stick, but for some reason we were able to only read a select few amount of files off the card (about 4 GB out of the 33 GB of data currently on the card). Additionally, while I have a back-up stored on the phone, it's both quite outdated and stored on the SD card itself. I'm planning on taking a deeper dive once I get my monitor repaired in a few days, but honestly I'm at a loss on what to do next. I very much don't want to lose the media stored on that card, but it's starting to look like my only option is to wipe and reformat it. I'm not even sure if help would be better sought on other subreddits or forums. But I'm desperate for help here. If you've gotten this far, thank you for hearing my plight. TL;DR: think I borked file install, now SD card's storage is locked up and acting weird. Plz help. [link] [comments] |

Help with Bluetooth on Lenovo Tab M10 Posted: 21 Jan 2021 11:16 AM PST Hi all, I am quite new to Android so please forgive me if I am not 100% clear. I am experiencing some issues with Bluetooth on this tablet. We are currently using 5 of these in conjunction with Unicorn Smartboard dart boards. The issue is that on occasion, Bluetooth will drop connection for reasons unknown, thus resetting the score which is a problem for us. The tablets are running Android 9 which is more stable than later iterations. This is in a bar environment and I am wondering if there is any way to "lock" the tablets Bluetooth connection to the smartboard or to disable discovery so the devices avoid cross connection (which has happened) and make it only connect to the one board. Sadly, the developers of the accompanying app have not updated it in 2 years and don't reply to support requests. Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 21 Jan 2021 11:08 AM PST Hello guys. My brother's Huawei p20 Lite is stuck in a bootloop. I don't know exactly how it happened but I'm unable to access the recovery and Erecovery (tried 10 times but it just won't work.) The only thing that works is Fastboot mode and it shows this error. Can't use Hisuite because apparently this phone isn't supported to be recovered using that program. How can I fix this phone? Is it permanently bricked? I already tried deleting the userdata using fastboot and using force update with a sd card to update (phone won't go to dload mode even w 3 buttons held down). [link] [comments] |

Posted: 21 Jan 2021 11:05 AM PST So I saw that on the new S21 you get Google discover feed on the left now. https://www.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s21-launcher-integrates-google-discover-feed/ Is it possible to do this now on the S20 or a possible update in the near future? Alarm not working after update Posted: 21 Jan 2021 10:53 AM PST I installed the update on Monday or Tuesday. Suddenly the alarm sound is not going off on my phone. I checked the do not disturb setting and it is still set to allow the alarm to go off regardless if my ring tone is set to vibrate but my alarm still won't go off. I tried talking with samesung and they suggested I wipe the partion cache. Did that and still nothing. Any advice? [link] [comments] |

Random apps which I don't want or need take up tons of space Posted: 21 Jan 2021 09:47 AM PST My samsung j3 has 16gb of storage, and I'm always "dangerously low on space". I've moved most of the media to google drive and the only apps i have downloaded now are whatsapp, 2 banking apps, the nhs covid app, a blue light filter app, and discord, and I don't really want to delete any of those. However loads of the pre installed apps take up so much storage and I can't delete them. For example, google text-to-speech engine (I don't even know what that does) takes up 428MB, the google app takes up 297MB, facebook takes up 190MB, samsung health 184MB - I'll have tons more space if I could delete those apps. Is there a way I can delete them or stop them taking up so much space? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
