I really dislike games with ads that have nothing to do with the actual game

    Posted: 21 Jan 2021 05:37 AM PST

When i scroll through the play store looking for a decent game or get an ad while playing one, i sometimes see really cool ads which makes me wanna try the game out and see if i like it. Then i go into the game and see that the ads had nothing to do with how the game actually looks like or plays out.

Why are they doing this? Why are they showing gameplay from the game only for you to go in and it's nothing like it? In case you don't know what i am talking about i'll give an example. Imagine you see an ad for lets say Fortnite and in the ad it's showing how the game actually plays out right now, then you download the game, go in and see it plays out like a League of Legends platformer. I used those 2 big games because they are very popular so chances are you know them and if you do then you know how completely different they are from each other. This is exactly what i am talking about for the ads.

If i find that a game has nothing to do with the ad then i will uninstall and never try it again, even if it's a decent game i will just refuse because of the way they try to bring you in which i find extremely annoying.

Is it too much to ask for ads to show actual gameplay? And i am not talking about the promotional over the top videos every game has, i am talking about how they show you how it plays and then it's nothing like that.

What is the likelihood of you paying for a $2 game on the play store?

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 06:30 PM PST

I'm a developer who's thinking of releasing a game for around $2 - $5 on google play and I'm trying to understand the kinds of games that are interesting enough to purchase before playing. So I'm just wondering what examples you guys have or if you ever have paid for a game you hadn't played before.

Looking for a game that doesn't seem to be on the app store anymore

    Posted: 21 Jan 2021 09:45 AM PST

    Genre: RPGish

Release: not sure but I think I played it around 2014/15

Art: a sort of Japanese influenced art with fairly good graphics. The game was 2d.

Character: you play as some stereotypical looking vampire but you could change the skin

Mechanics: In some levels you had to either destroy a crystal at one end while protecting your own or survive a certain amount of time against a bunch of enemies. You could also choose what items/armour you wanted to equip as well as skills and monsters to fight for your side.

Algorithm..check! Here come the big bucks! Was watching youtube during my free time and i happened to scroll by this ad for an app with a cringeworthy title, to say the least. It's been said a million times here but this practice is just so shameless it needs to stop

Can someone tell me how to get games to download to my SD card instead of my phone?

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 06:21 PM PST

So I just got an SD card for my phone bc my phone is running low on space and I just wanted to download some games on the sd card. I'm using a Huawei P20 lite I believe and I know theres a feature that sets the SD card as default storage. Is that reversible? If it is what happens if I download games on my SD card then set the default storage to my phone? I've also read that its slower, and I just wanna know how much slower it is? Basically, if I set my default storage to sd will all my games be intact and will I be able to get games on the SD card and they will work? Pls help I'm not good with phones lol

Portable controls that work on both Android and PC?

    Posted: 21 Jan 2021 11:28 AM PST

Tldr: Small pocketable controllers that work on steam and android for mobile parsec.

I've recently gotten parsec on my phone, and I'm pretty happy with it. My only issue right now is that, there's no portable controllers. I know that android has a vast amount of controls that are somewhat portable or attach to the device. But I was wondering if there was something like that, that works with steam or is treated as a 360 controller.

I really want something I could just throw in my pocket.

Xbox One Elite Series 2 issues

    Posted: 21 Jan 2021 10:57 AM PST

    (originally posted to r/xbox)

IDK if this is the right sub to ask on, feel free to direct me to a different sub that would better assist me. In essence, I love using my Elite Series 2, I use it on my PC without issues, both over bluetooth and USB, but on my Android phone (OnePlus 7 Pro, Android 10), whenever I connect it over bluetooth, it recognizes it as a keyboard, and when playing CoD mobile, it drops out and reconnects about once every 10-30 seconds and takes about 5 seconds to reconnect. For a fast paced game like CoD, you can see why this is an issue. Also, since it's recognized as a controller, I can't swap to Discord and message anybody because it prevents me from using my native keyboard. Anybody else have this problem? Any solutions? Thank you for any replies, I appreciate them.

(P.S. Will probably X-post or copy/paste this to an Android or OnePlus subreddit to see if there's any answers over there as well.)

[REQUEST] Games which allow the player to alter the game itself

    Posted: 21 Jan 2021 10:36 AM PST

Any way, really. Best would be one where you upgrade the actual game itself as you go. Examples are the "upgrade the game" series and the original "evoland". Basically you start in a situation where the game looks like something from the original game boy, and by the end you've got a 3d engine and 4k graphics.

Another way would be to have multiple areas play in different game styles, like in "evoland 2".

It should however alter the entire thing, not just the graphics.

Finally, I would prefer if it is not an incremental (idle) game. But that's low priority. Best would be something similar to the old Zelda games (e.g. evoland 2) or straight up switching between all kinds of different game types.

Looking for suggestions for a game with crafting mechanics like crafting in Final Fantasy XIV (the MMORPG)

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 07:58 PM PST

In FFXIV, crafting isn't just a matter of having the right ingredients and performing one action at a crafting table. There are multiple gauges and factors to manage while crafting an item, and you perform a series of actions in order to craft.

    • Progress gauge: starts at 0 and each crafting recipe can go up to a different number (hundreds or even thousands). Various "synthesis" actions increase progress varying amounts and with different probabilities, but decrease the durability gauge.
    • Durability gauge: Starts full and decreases whenever you use certain actions (generally the ones that advance the progress or quality gauges). If your progress gauge is not full when your durability becomes 0, your crafting fails completely.
    • Quality gauge: items you craft can be normal quality or high quality, where high quality items are more sought after since they usually give bigger bonuses when used in game. Increasing the quality gauge increases the chance that your item will be high quality. "Touch" actions are used to increase quality like "synthesis" actions increase progress, both costing durability, and some versions costing crafting points (this is what other games might call action points, magic points, or mana). This guage is also nonlinear: when it's 50% full the chance of a high-quality result is only like 30%, but at 60% full the chance goes up to like 85%, so while a touch action may add 50 quality points to the gauge, those 50 points are worth a different increase in chance for a high-quality result depending on how many points you already have.
    • Condition: this is just a state that may change randomly after each action, can be "poor", "normal", "good", "excellent". Touch actions are boosted when condition is good or excellent. Another action restores crafting points if it's good or excellent, so you have to sometimes decide between restoring points or the quality boost.

Some actions have interactions with each other, such as comboing off of each other or boosting/discounting other actions. The interesting choices you make are along the lines of: say you execute an action that boosts the progress gain of the next 2 actions (50% more progress gain), but at that moment the condition becomes excellent; do you waste a turn of the progress boost by executing a touch action that doesn't increase progress but does get a boost from the excellent condition, or will doing that mean you can't fill up the progress gauge? Do you then gamble on the synthesis action that is 250% more efficient than the basic synthesis but has a 50% chance of doing nothing?

I like the combo aspects, and the optimization puzzle in figuring out how to manage the gauges, your crafting points, and the condition.

Just a tip for finding decent stuff on Play Store...

    Posted: 21 Jan 2021 09:53 AM PST

Have a look through the play store app, and on the left menu bar theres a 'new' thing called Play Pass. Its their subscription service for games etc, but they let you explore everything included. Without even starting a trial you can browse app/game genres on there, and really struggle to find any trash whatsoever. It all seems to be really nice content. Let me know if you find something new you enjoy :)

[REQUEST] Games to play while walking

    Posted: 21 Jan 2021 03:01 AM PST

I take my daughter out every morning in the buggy/pram for air and exercise and im looking for one handed semi idle games to play while walking.

I've played Pokemon Go to death (til they started drip feeding content). I've put time into ingress but the back and forth seems pointless which I guess means I preferred the collection aspect of PoGo rather then the gyms and battles.

Im aware of Resources, Landlord, Turf Wars etc but they all feel a bit too much like paying the bills for my liking - as well as the Ingress turf apathy.

I guess the games don't have to be location based but they kind of seemed closest to what I wanted.

Im looking into idle games but im not 100% on whether thats what im after.

Ive also tried Orna, Run Zombies, Our World, but there's something not quite hitting the mark.

I reckon im looking for something that I can look in on every couple of minutes while its grinding away.

So if anyone has any hidden gems they can recommend Id appreciate it. I know im being picky, so if anyone wants to tell me I've kind of cleared that particular niche, Id probably accept that.

    Thanks in advance.

[REQUEST] A homesteading / Off Grid Sim Game

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 04:31 PM PST

Nothing tooney, nothing like Farmville. The hundreds or so "zombie survival" games come close but don't quite hit the nail on the head. No joining clans, no paywalls.

Ultimately I'd like some sort of open concept where you can do what you want. Nature should play a big part (coyotes eat the chickens, hunt for food, snow makes it cold, etc.). Power generation options, different building type options, landscaping options, you name it.

Basically I want to homestead virtually since I can't retire for another 6 years 🤣

So I spent quite a long time hating on idle games...

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 10:45 PM PST

Specifically, idle hero collectors. I've been out of work for almost 2 months dealing with some health issues and that's given me plenty of time to give some new mobile hero collector games a shot. I've found some real gems (in my eyes) such as Age of Magic, Dragon Champions and King's Raid. But those aren't idles, per se.

On the idle win list, I only came away with one game. Mobile Legends Adventure. This game gets quite a lot of hate and I've seen videos accusing it of stealing character designs and kits from AFK Arena. I've spent quite a long time hating on and bashing idle games but MLA is one that I've just found myself having genuine fun with. The characters are well-designed and have backstories. The battles are fast-paced and entertaining with some very well-done fully animated ultimate abilities, which is awesome. I've progressed a good deal in the story and pulled some solid characters without one time feeling like I need to drop even a dollar into the game, which I haven't. Those ultimate animations alone will keep me coming back to this one.

On the idle dud list we have...AFK Arena (might be willing to give it a second shot), Idle Devils, Idle Heroes, Wild West Heroes, Idle Arena: Evolution Legends, Trials of Heroes and Darkfire Heroes. These games just featured extremely bland and basic "gameplay" with nary a special animation in sight. I tried MLA before any of these and unfortunately that means the standard on idles was set for me and none of these games reached the bar.

Idle games are honestly becoming a plague on the play store. If some true love and care were put into the games, they'd actually be something. Yet all most idle games do are try to copy off the success of other games, either by straight up stealing story elements or by literally stealing character designs from not only each other but from other franchises entirely such as Marvel, DBZ or TLoZ. Don't even get me started on how almost every single one uses the "demons invade the world" story. Don't get me wrong, I love me some cute elf archers and demon girls but it's the same thing in every single game. I'll take a turn-based hero collector over an idle any day because at least I can play something instead of watching the game play itself. Though even all turn-based hero collectors give you the auto battle option so you could say the same about them. I spent a long time hating on idle games...and I think I was fair to do so.

[REQUEST] Fun games to play while listening to music?

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 01:45 PM PST

Hi, I've been looking for a while for some games to play while I'm in bed and listening to music. I'm looking for not something too simple and repetitive like idle clickers or Two Dots (which a lot of people recommend ) Paid/free and online/offline doesn't really matter just something good.

[REQUEST] RPG With Skills And Synergies

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 06:30 PM PST

    • It's best if it is an RPG game, but if it's a shooter that has interesting skill dynamics I am willing to take a look.
    • Preferably something with pixel art style.
    • I just want something that offers lots of options to build a character with the possibility to synergize skills/jobs/equipment.
    • I am not into card games though.

    Thanks.
