Any way to tweak menus (Settings, volume and other system panels) on Android TV to have transperancy?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2020 04:15 AM PST

Hi, I'm using VU4k 5vbrunj8ng android 9.0. Everything about Android TV is good but one thing that is a big let down is opaque and bad looking TV settings menu and volume sliders. Does anyone know for a possibility to tweak these menus to add transperancy?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2020 01:00 PM PST

Looks like the last time this was asked was 1.5 to 2 months ago. Since google tv launched, have there been any suggested release dates for Android TV 11?

Eager to get that stadia support :).

JBL Link Bar worth buying now?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2020 04:09 AM PST

    Hallo guys

i have read alot of negative reviews about the JBL Link Bar. Mostly concerning speed and Speakergroups. Did those issues get patched over time? And if yes, would you consider it worth its price now?

    CCGTV

Has anyone noticed like a little blip every so often when watching Netflix with the new Chromecast with Google TV? It's literally just a second or less skip, but I don't notice it on any other app but Netflix. My apologies if this has already been discussed.

What's the best way to get the most up-to-date software?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2020 08:11 PM PST

I'm shopping for TVs and I'm wondering how updates and such work. Is it up to the manufacturers to provide updates, similar to third-party Android phones? If so, are any of them particularly good about this? Wondering if I buy an Android TV today if it'll be likely to be updated to Google TV.

Or would it be better to get the new Chromecast if I want to get timely software updates?

Anyone have trouble side loading Google TV on the Nivida Shield?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2020 07:54 PM PST

So I tried sideloading Google TV on the shield. Everything work except on the Home Screen it glitches where it shows you recommendations For You. It fast scrolls the recommendations and I can't stop it. I tried uninstalling and installing again same thing. I read others have had this glitch but haven't found a solution. Anyone have this issue?

Just bought the mibox s. Love the layout.but unfortunately not showing some sideloaded apps. Was using atl Launcher on my previous box. Looking for Launcher which can display all apps while showing similar to Google Launcher which shows related shows or movies shortcut for particular app.

Apple Music sideloaded but won't connect to internet

    Posted: 02 Nov 2020 05:47 PM PST

Hey all, thanks in advance for any help! So I sideloaded Apple Music to my Sony X900H, but while the app opens alright, it's not connecting to the internet; it displays a message to either turn off airplane mode or connect to Wi-Fi. Any thoughts?

Edit: Eh, turned out to be a bust, but I'll leave this up in case it may help anyone sometime. This was multifaceted, where I was connected via Ethernet and my TV refused to connect via WiFi at the same time (bug?). Unplugging Ethernet got WiFi connected, which saw Apple Music then connect to the internet, but the app was so useless controlled with the remote that I wound up uninstalling it anyway.

Shield tv browser that allows video playback?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2020 04:19 PM PST

I have an Nvidia shield tv and tried installing chrome which works except it won't play video. I don't know if it's some setting I'm missing I don't see anything related to that like something about flash. I also tried puffin which worked but it wants to charge me after awhile. So any recommendation on a browser that doesn't have issues with playing video or how to get chrome working with video would be great 😊and thank you.

Best Way/Option to Stream Rips from Google Drive?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2020 03:18 PM PST

Hey peeps, I'm looking for the best option to stream personal videos and my movie rips (often 50gb+) from Google Drive.

I've been using Kodi with the Google drive add-on, but Kodi itself isn't that good at streaming certain kinds of files, even locally (short iPhone clips in 4K, while strangely, long clips play fine). My larger issue is with streaming my movie rips. While some play just fine, others stutter and are sometimes unwatchable.

In an effort to find the issue, I've been experimenting with a Fire stick 4K, Nvidia Shield and the new Google Chromecast. They all have their drawbacks, but as far as Kodi is concerned, performance is roughly similar. I thought that the ethernet-connected Shield might do better, but it seems the bottleneck is not there. Some movies play better on the Shield, some on the fire TV. I've got a fiber connection, 500/500, ax88u router, and a Windows computer/server connected with an 802.11ax adapter (link speed around 2.2 gigabit, speed test hits 800-900 Mbps on the upload).

I tried setting up a Plex server with recommended settings and Google drive file stream, but still got hit with a temporary ban anyway. I've never tried Plex before, but given the ban and the idea that I'm introducing a middle man in the connection (sounds counter intuitive to do that given I'm trying to stream large files) made me put that idea on the back burner.

So the options I'm looking at are:

    • Plex server connected to Google drive either via Google drive file stream or rclone
    • Emby version of the above
    • Infuse on an apple tv (apparently connects directly with Google drive) via ethernet

Anything else out there? I want to stream the movies directly, want them to play in 4K and HDR, and I'd like passthrough sound to my receiver.

I'm also not sure which device to stick with, but basically I want the above mentioned Google drive playback, YouTube in 4K HDR, Apple tv, Amazon Prime, Netflix, maybe Disney, ideally frame rate switching and HD audio passthrough. Unfortunately it seems, no one device does all that.

    All advice is really appreciated!

Is there a way to get any sort of screensaver on Philips Android TV?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2020 08:45 AM PST

I have a 58PUS7304 android tv. It came with backdrop installed. I went to Settings > Android Settings > Device Preferences > Screen saver and enabled backdrop and set the "When to start" to 5 min. After 5 minutes of idling nothing happens. Am I dumb or is there a catch to this?

Is it possible to connect an Android TV moBo to any monitor/Television?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2020 11:35 AM PST

I have a Hisense AndroidTV that has a broken screen. Everything else still works, however. Is it possible to install the motherboard onto a different monitor/television so I can make a dumb TV smart? I know it's overkill and I could just get a new CC, however I wanted to see if this was possible first.
