    New Chromecast CEC Volume Bug

    Posted: 18 Nov 2020 06:51 AM PST

I'm using my new CC with GTV on a Hisense Q8G (same as H8G) and an older Sony AV receiver connected via HDMI ARC.

The TV can control the volume via CEC decently. When I try to use the Chromecast volume option 'Auto CEC', a single press of the volume button increments it like 3-4 times. It's strange, it increments once and then again 2-3 more times, like I was pushing the button again and again. However, if I slightly long-press the volume buttons, it only increments once. It's very strange.

The only way I can think that this might make some sense, is due to the difference in volume steps between the TV and AV receiver. The receiver has 33 steps and the TV has 100. When I change the volume on the TV it goes in increments of 3(/100) to account for a single increase of the AV receiver volume (/33). Maybe the Chromecast somehow knows that information, but doesn't know that the TV also knows it, so the CC tries to adjust the TV by 3 steps. That still doesn't explain why pressing the volume button slightly longer works perfectly fine, though.

Prime Video Played HDR10 instead of 10+ most of the times and the subtitles are out of sync

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 10:57 PM PST

So i have a tcl Android tv which supports HDR10+, i have watched the boys and jack ryan on it and in most of the episodes it just loads HDR10 instead of 10+, and closing and training again and again and every 5-6 times, it once opens up the 10+ , but next time its standard 10 again

Also the subtitles are delayed by like 2 seconds which is annoying to say the least, if anyone has any solutions for the above problems pls share

(I tried deleting the app and reinstalling it)

Mi box s 4k and on all Xiaomi devices I get video pixelation issue?

    Posted: 18 Nov 2020 01:37 AM PST

I did notice on Xiaomi devices pixelation on videos. I have mi box s 4k and chromecast ultra while there is no pixelation for the same video for chromecast ultra I'm getting pixelation issue for mi box s 4k and redmi note 8 pro. This issue I did notice it for local videos and youtube app (I didn't notice for netflix). So I did try some methods my self. switching to sw decoding on mx player got pixelation fixed but this isn't precise solution cuz I did read somewhere that hdr is gone for sw decoding and youtube app problem stays.

For Xiaomi devices I did find a video on YouTube. so on mine redmi note 8 pro I did as the video told. the video did told me to turn on hw overlays so I did turn it on and I got pixelation fixed!!!

    youtube. com/watch?v=MGxh2vCmR1E

But for mi box When I turn on disable hw overlays I'm getting no screen I'm only getting audio what could be the cause of this could someone help me to turn this on?

Or is there any other solution how I can fix the pixelation?

    Update:

İn mi box s 4k There is no pixelation in apps like netflix!!! but vlc, mx player and chromecast built-in playing local video file is the issue getting pixelation in hw decoder!

    https://imgur.com/a/OO2R8VI

    Example:

    Hw decoder: https://imgur.com/US8Xzor

    Sw decoder: https://imgur.com/fUzwKvw

You can see white line in hw decoder. İn sw decoder the white lines are gone pixelation is fixed but not a permanent fix.

Capable to power off specific device when changing hdmi input?

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 01:56 PM PST

Hi, as per title, I'm wondering if it's possible to auto power off a device when changing hdmi input?

For example, on my sony bravia android tv, my sly box is plugged into hdmi port 1 and my nvidia shield is plugged into hdmi port 2. The reason I'm looking for this automated feature is because I'd like to be able to power off any streaming service on the shield if someone changes over to sly if I'm not home so that no data is being wasted.

Not sure if possible, but any help appreciated. Thanks

Subtitles disabled and everything is fine.

Is there any ways to fix it?

Google TV is Very Expat Unfriendly

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 04:18 PM PST

So I know this particular issue is for a very very very niche audience but Google TV on the new Chromecast is not very expat friendly at all. I'm an American living in Australia and therefore I have a mix of both American and Australian streaming services.

Installing all the apps from different regions is fine just like in normal Android TV but I wish you can manually tell Google what streaming services you have (even if that streaming service is technically not available in your current region) so that Google can tell you properly which services are available to stream shows.

For example, 30 Rock is available on Hulu in the US and Stan in Australia. Since I have both services Google TV should theoretically show that 30 Rock is available in both Stan and Hulu. But since Google TV bases its availability information based on where it's connected, it'll show that 30 Rock is only available on Stan. If I have my VPN connected to the USA then Google TV will show Hulu for 30 Rock.

Anyway, just thought I'd share my opinion especially if there are other expats out there that are wondering how Google TV works when it comes to multiple services.

    Fullsreen automation

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 01:25 PM PST

Hi all, got my shield recently and nearly finished setting it up the way I like. I am using couple streaming sites to watch series and films and everything works great through amazon Silk browser. I am looking for a way to maximise the flash player automatically to full screen when video starts playing. It is not a huge inconvenience but has anyone done anything similar with sideloaded apps like automation or macro droid?

nvidia shield can turn off my Okyo Receiver, but not off

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 09:35 AM PST

(Edit: Messed up the title. Hope you get the meaning.)

I replaced my Chromecast gen 2 with a 2019 shield, and it works great except that it won't turn on my receiver. Turning the reciever off (or power-save mode to be clear) works fine, but once off the shield won't turn it on again. The Chromecast never had this issue and it's plugged in the same port. Anyone got any ideas?
