Android Dev - I found this weird prototype Android tablet from 2010 at Goodwill today. I couldn't find much information on it besides that it is a Texas Instruments Blaze and used for Android development but never reached the consumer market. I was wondering if anyone knew more about these machines.

Any other developers that would love to work with the new Android 11 Device Controls?

But are hampered by the fact that they don't work on emulators??

Or does anyone knows a workaround?

Best practice to publish app as a team

    Posted: 10 Nov 2020 09:08 AM PST

    Hello!

Two friends of mine and I have developed an app. What's the best practice to put it on the stores giving credits to all three of us?

It is and always be free, so we are not ever going to make any money out of it. Maybe in the future we may devote some of our spare time in developing something that generates some revenue.

Can anyone give me a rundown on interface support

    Posted: 10 Nov 2020 06:00 AM PST

Edit: this refers to USB AUDIO interfaces. Meant to include that in the title, cant change it now :(

I am aware that Android is currently somewhat underserviced in the music recording side of things. As part of an assignment, i'm seeking to develop an app that records input via an audio interface. Problem is that I cannot seem to get a straight answer on what works and what doesn't.

I have now gone through 2 IK Multimedia USB interfaces (the iRig UA and the iRig Pro I/O) and can get neither to work as I require - the main problem being they only seem to work with IK Multimedia's own AmpliTube app.

Will it sadly be the case that all interfaces will require their own proprietary driver in order to to be able to use? Sadly this would probably see my project idea ruled out as unfeasible as I don't have the capacity to develop my own driver. Or are there any interfaces out there that will work universally with Andriod.

    Youtube data API quota increase

    Posted: 10 Nov 2020 09:05 AM PST

    Hello everyone!

I am considering to use Youtube data API in my app, but would definitely need to increase the quota. My question here is, if anyone was already successful with this quota increase form (https://support.google.com/youtube/contact/yt_api_form) and how did they do it?

As far as I am reading now, everyone who requested the quota increase had a lot of problems explaining what the app does, providing demos and so on. It also takes a lot of time to even get any kind of response.

Also I am kind of concerned regarding all the stuff you need to provide - website, privacy policy, how you handle the data, company name etc. But I don't have any of that, since I am just developing a simple app, which is not even published yet.

    Fragment and ViewModel responsibilities

    Posted: 10 Nov 2020 05:20 AM PST

Hello developers. I have a question for those using the MVVM architecture. When you read a file from storage and grab its uri, do you read the inputstream to get the file contents within the fragment or activity itself or you pass the uri to the viewmodel and do your other stuff from their? Just curious.

Sooner Home - democratising the Google Sooner experience

    Posted: 10 Nov 2020 05:19 AM PST

Good morning r/Android! I've been recently working on an app called Sooner Home. It is essentially a launcher that replicates the Google Sooner experience to every Android device out there (proof of concept: https://ibb.co/jWNzBVt - Sooner Home running on a Galaxy A320FL). What is Google Sooner? Well, it's the first prototype hardware that Android was developed upon, back in 2006. Although it is very difficult to get hold of such a prototype, with my app, Sooner Home, you can get your own phone have a similar Home Screen layout. What are your thoughts on my project? Would you like to see it someday on PlayStore? If yes, would you install it? Let's discuss in the comments. (reposted from r/Android)

Is it possible to add an AR feature build with Unity to Social Media app created with Android Studio?

    Posted: 10 Nov 2020 12:40 AM PST

Hi, developers! Can I use unity and Android Studio if I want to create a social media app that has an AR feature? I found out that Sceneform is deprecated. So, maybe a sceneform is not the option for Android AR development.

    repo sync fails

    Posted: 10 Nov 2020 12:31 AM PST

First things first, I am not sure if this is the right place to ask, so if this is the wrong place let me know. So, I am a newbie to android development. I actually wanted to "bake" a rom for my phone, which is not officially supported by that rom. I can sucessfully (?) initialize the repo but when I type repo sync (or "repo sync -f --force-sync --no-clone-bundle" as stated by the resurrection remix guide) it literally does nothing .. the issue may be because i actually tried to do the whole thing on a second drive, since my first drive is just 128 GB ... Any help? Otherwise, any help on how to actually complete the process in a second drive? Appreciated :) (I am using the official "build for kenzo" guide from lineage)

Any apps that connect users to other users within a defined radius that allows users to send and respond to info which can be viewed on a map?

    Posted: 09 Nov 2020 02:33 PM PST

    Example.

I share info on the app. The other users who are near me will receive an alert and they then view the info. They then (if they wish) share the info which in turn will alert users near to them. Then they share the info and so on. The alerts will appear on a map.

Is there a name for this type of software or process so I can enquire from app developers?

    Multiple API calls in android

    Posted: 09 Nov 2020 12:46 PM PST

Hey guys I had attended an interview recently where I had a question asking me how I'd handle a scenario where I'd have to call around 30-100 API calls and store the data into the DB before using the app. They asked me for the best approach for this. I believe retrofit let's us do multiple API calls asynchronously but I got confused and I think there's a better approach out there. I wanna find out the possible solutions for this so I can grow into a better android developer. If anyone has a great approach please share your thoughts on the same. Also I'm really new to reddit so forgive me if my post is long or something.

Unable to fetch data from backend server to android emulated device (React Native)

    Posted: 09 Nov 2020 10:06 PM PST

My api is built on GoLang and our web app in react. Now I am working on the app and I am having trouble connecting to the backend server. For making api calls I am using axios and redux toolkit.

Whenever I send my credentials for login to the localhost the request is coming out to fulfilled and data as empty string and it doesn't matter what I send to the server the result is always same.

But when I use my live api its working fine. I am able to fetch the data using the credentials effortlessly.

How do you full stack guys workaround with this? I have been stuck on this for about 3 days and is really affecting the speed of the process.

Can I use Dagger and Hilt together?

    Posted: 09 Nov 2020 04:47 PM PST

    My Applicaction module uses dagger.

I want to use Hilt on my library module.

The Application module is so big so that I can not migration to Hilt quickly.

Can I use together in my project?

ps. Is that right, Hilt only works with "@HiltAndroidApp" upon my Application class?

How can I new-up a list of Views in Kotlin?

    Posted: 09 Nov 2020 03:51 PM PST

I'm working through an Android Kotlin training course and I'm confused on how the trainer is newing up a list of Views on lines 18-20.

In that linked video pic, the box_one_text, box_two_text, ... are TextViews defined in the layout xml. When I type in that code to new-up the list of views having the TextViews in the layout with the same names, I get an unresolved reference error for each one of those box_one_text, etc. I can't understand how that text can resolve in his app. I wouldn't expect it to, but it does. Maybe they aren't showing some declarations somewhere? They aren't shown nor discussed in any way, shape, or form. What am I doing wrong?

The code in MainActivity.kt that doesn't compile because the parameters to listOf are unresolved:

    private fun setListeners() { val clickableViews: List<View> = listOf(box_one_text, box_two_text, box_three_text, box_four_text, box_five_text) }

    My layout:

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <androidx.constraintlayout.widget.ConstraintLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto" xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="match_parent" tools:context=".MainActivity"> <TextView android:id="@+id/box_one_text" style="@style/WhiteBox" android:layout_width="0dp" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_marginStart="16dp" android:layout_marginTop="16dp" android:layout_marginEnd="16dp" android:fontFamily="@font/roboto" android:text="@string/box_one" android:textSize="@dimen/sz_box_one_text" app:layout_constraintEnd_toEndOf="parent" app:layout_constraintHorizontal_bias="0.0" app:layout_constraintStart_toStartOf="parent" app:layout_constraintTop_toTopOf="parent" /> <TextView android:id="@+id/box_two_text" style="@style/WhiteBox" android:layout_width="130dp" android:layout_height="130dp" android:layout_marginStart="16dp" android:layout_marginTop="16dp" android:text="@string/box_two" app:layout_constraintStart_toStartOf="parent" app:layout_constraintTop_toBottomOf="@+id/box_one_text" /> <TextView android:id="@+id/box_four_text" style="@style/WhiteBox" android:layout_width="0dp" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_marginStart="16dp" android:layout_marginTop="16dp" android:layout_marginEnd="16dp" android:layout_marginBottom="16dp" android:text="@string/box_four" app:layout_constraintBottom_toTopOf="@+id/box_five_text" app:layout_constraintEnd_toEndOf="parent" app:layout_constraintStart_toEndOf="@+id/box_two_text" app:layout_constraintTop_toBottomOf="@+id/box_three_text" /> <TextView android:id="@+id/box_three_text" style="@style/WhiteBox" android:layout_width="0dp" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_marginStart="16dp" android:layout_marginEnd="16dp" android:text="@string/box_three" app:layout_constraintBottom_toTopOf="@+id/box_four_text" app:layout_constraintEnd_toEndOf="parent" app:layout_constraintStart_toEndOf="@+id/box_two_text" app:layout_constraintTop_toTopOf="@+id/box_two_text" /> <TextView android:id="@+id/box_five_text" style="@style/WhiteBox" android:layout_width="0dp" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_marginStart="16dp" android:layout_marginEnd="16dp" android:text="@string/box_five" app:layout_constraintBottom_toBottomOf="@+id/box_two_text" app:layout_constraintEnd_toEndOf="parent" app:layout_constraintStart_toEndOf="@+id/box_two_text" app:layout_constraintTop_toBottomOf="@+id/box_four_text" /> </androidx.constraintlayout.widget.ConstraintLayout>
