Does it make more sense to buy a good android TV instead of buying a normal TV with a Nvidia shield? Posted: 31 Oct 2020 04:18 AM PDT So I have already bought a Nvidia shield 4k Pro for around $350 and I need to buy a TV so I was going to get something for around $500. I only plan on using the Nvidia shield mainly for streaming sports on iptv and the app I use for it is on the play store. I'm thinking now would it make more sense to just buy a proper android TV with the Google play store instead? If I could get a TV for $600-700 I would be saving money this way for pretty much the same thing. It just feels like the shield is a bit overkill for what I want. Opinions would be greatly appreciated. Suggestions on an android TV would be great. I still have time to return my Nvidia shield so I can change my decision if I wish. [link] [comments]

Problems with Mi TV Stick after update Posted: 31 Oct 2020 06:35 AM PDT Anyone else facing problems with the Mi TV Stick after its update? It used to work fine before, just the UI was a little slow. After its only update, it stutters during video playback, especially on Netflix and Amazon Prime. Seems like it struggles with decoding anything that is decent bitrate, but I haven't tested it using custom files on something like Jellyfin. YouTube playback is usually fine, but occasionally, the picture is garbled. Disney+ Hotstar seems to be the only app I'm using that doesn't show any problems. Is there any way to rollback the update without losing the Netflix certification? [link] [comments]
Sideloading version of Prime Video with profiles on Hisense H8G? Posted: 30 Oct 2020 04:36 PM PDT Edit:. I got one to work, and user profiles work, but the streaming quality is g a r b a g e! It's set to best quality, I have ethernet from the router right in my room, and I tried downloading instead of streaming and it's still like 480p. Anyone know of a setting a can tweak or something? My Hisense comes with Prime Video built in and it doesn't have profile support even when updated to most current version I share an account with 3 people so it's very hindering not to have the profiles so I don't mess up their watchlist or have mine messed up I've tried disabling the Prime Video app that came with it and loading another version but that didn't work, and I can't successfully get Amazon App Store to work Has anyone gotten this to work? Maybe there's something I'm missing? [link] [comments]

YouTube regularly doesn't have sound on Google TV chromecast Posted: 30 Oct 2020 08:24 PM PDT I love my Chromecast Google TV device but for some reason I keep experiencing no audio on the YouTube app. I'll regularly be in Plex or YouTube TV where the sound works fine and then when I switch to YouTube, there's no audio. Turning it off/on doesn't work. Frankly I have to just switch to my Smart tv apps because I'd probably have to hard reboot. Anyone else experience audio issues ? This really puts a damper on my other customers in the house (namely the wife who has about zero patience unfortunately). [link] [comments]
Shield Keeps Turning On With Plex? Help! Posted: 30 Oct 2020 07:57 PM PDT I've recently started using Plex to watch a server that was shared with me. I set this up using my Nvidia Shield TV but now it keeps turning back on and because of CEC it turns my TV on as well. I usually just cast from the Plex App on my phone to the Shield but I do have the Plex App installed on the Shield itself. How do I fix this? [link] [comments]
Moving files with new Google TV Chromecast from external hard drive Posted: 30 Oct 2020 06:15 PM PDT Anyone have luck moving files with the new Chromecast Google TV? TCL 55S434 Cannot turn off/on with Google Assistant Posted: 30 Oct 2020 09:19 PM PDT Hey guys, Ive been struggling to find a solution for this. I just purchased a TCL 55S434 Android TV and everything is set up correctly with T-Link on, etc. The thing I cannot do is have any of my Google homes turn it off or on. Is this not available for this TV? I find this hard to believe. Any help is good! [link] [comments]
Easiest Android TV only way Or App to backup an App & APK from it to share/ export? Posted: 30 Oct 2020 08:33 PM PDT Easiest Android TV only way Or App to backup an App & APK from it to share/ export? I need to ask a non tech extended family member to do so as I can try and sideload & run those on our TV. Why? Mi has updated all TVs with Miracast except the 65" we have of the same series / year. There seems to be no reasonable logic to stagnated way in which they've pushed this update. If it's just not possible what would be easier way to do so that I may ask one of the younger inhabitants of that house. Ps: can't go there. [link] [comments]
[US] How reliable is Sling on AndroidTV? Posted: 30 Oct 2020 08:05 PM PDT TLDR: How reliable is the Sling stream on wired (ex nVidia Shield) vs wireless (ex Tivo 4k) at 720 to 1080p? So I've been crunching some numbers, reading some articles, and I've found that I can save probably $400 - $500 a year if I ditch my cable and use Sling Blue. In some of these articles, they say that the Sling wireless performance is unreliable as far as picture resolution. I'm wondering what everyone's experience is with that? My current set up is a Tivo for cable TV and either an Amazon Fire TV 2nd Gen or a Tivo Stream 4k. I love my Tivo, but it's about 10 years old at this point and when it dies it dies. I won't replace it because the FCC said they're no longer requiring CTV providers a tuner card. I love my Fire TV, but it's 5 years old and bit long in the tooth. I'd rather not get a stick or a cube. I bought the Tivo 4k because it was on sale and I wanted something closer to the Android ecosystem. I'm also not against ditching it for nVidia shield with the ethernet port. My FireTV is hard wired and my Tivo 4k is wifi. Before the pandemic, I never had a problem with the FireTV streaming Netflix, Amazon, Youtube, or Plex. I've had the Tivo 4k for about a month and have seen no decrease in quality except on some streaming channels on youtube (which I think is ok with everyone being home more these days) . Specifically for those of you who have a wireless Chromecast with Google TV, Tivo 4k, or other wireless-based AndroidTV stick, how has your Sling performance been? I'm perfectly fine with 720 to 1080p, but anything lower than 720 I would not be happy with. [link] [comments]
Sony Android TV - Smart DNS - BBC iplayer not working Posted: 30 Oct 2020 12:41 PM PDT Honestly this is driving me nuts. BBC iplayer on the pc works perfectly with router based smart DNS. Works perfectly on ios and Android as well. No problems. Static routes of 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 has been added. Still, the Sony Android TV blocks me from casting or starting the app. Am I missing something? [link] [comments]
Downloaded OroAnime app to Philips Android TV, cant access play button on video Posted: 30 Oct 2020 12:29 PM PDT It took a long time and alot of internet searches, but I finally got the OroAnime app downloaded onto my Android TV. When I try to play an episode, everything seems to load fine, but I cant access the play button to start the video. The left and right buttons on my tv remote scroll through the episode, and up and down buttons change the volume, but I cant hit the play button (tried the ok button inside of the directional buttons, the media play/pause button, etc). I tried connecting a usb mouse, but it wont connect (somewhere online I found a site saying a mouse wont work on the tv). Any suggestions? [link] [comments]
