Sounding an alarm on another person Android phone Posted: 09 Oct 2020 01:47 AM PDT Hi all, my wife and I want to be able to sound an alarm on each other's phone for emergency situations when the phone is silent or in do-not-disturb mode. Is there any app we can install on both phones and will allow this? Cheers [link] [comments] |

There's still no way to block ads without root on mobile networks, right? Posted: 09 Oct 2020 06:37 AM PDT Last I checked, non-root DNS methods of ad blocking only work on wifi and only when the browser/app doesn't have its own DNS servers hardcoded in (and require sending all your browsing to some third-party server). Is that still accurate? I have been rooted using AdAway host file modifications for years now, and it blocks pretty much all ads on any network, in any app or browser, all locally. I don't think I can give it up now. Are any non-root methods about to block ads as widely now? [link] [comments] |
Problems with Android 11 and can't get help Posted: 09 Oct 2020 12:49 PM PDT I have a pixel 2 that I've absolutely loved until recently. When it updated to 11 it caused all sorts of random, buggy issues on my phone. I finally just did a factory reset, and it seems better, but the most severe of the issues are still present - camera will not take zoomed photos, some apps that I used to use daily will crash as soon as they open. I've been trying to get help through the settings menu, and every time they ask for my IEMI. Here's the issue... My phone was replaced under warranty for hardware failure in 2018. They keep telling me my IEMI is invalid and I can't find any sort of rma or anything in my email. I don't know if they think I'm just pulling a 15 digit number out of my ass or what, but I would think they could find a record and confirm my identity if they really wanted to. I've emailed them screenshots and everything. Then to top it off, they keep disconnecting my chat sessions without warning (last time I took a couple minutes to search my email, came back to the chat every minute or so to say I'm still looking to prevent getting disconnected, still got disconnected.) So I'm just kinda stuck and I don't feel like going through it a 4th time today. Anyone know a better way to get help? Anyone know anything about fixing issues with 11? I love the phone and planned to get another pixel eventually, but I'm pretty close to just jumping to iOS if I can't get any help with issues caused by Google's software, all because Google's hardware malfunctioned and had to be warrantied. help i need to turn my phone on Posted: 09 Oct 2020 12:42 PM PDT hi all, is there any way to power it on, were under lockdown, is there a way to force to boot through USB maybe? [link] [comments] |
Instagram won't send me notifications. Posted: 09 Oct 2020 12:23 PM PDT Title says it all. Got a new phone, Galaxy A21s as a backup for my iPhone and I've been using this a lot more than the iPhone just because I like android. It was amazing the first few months but a few weeks ago Instagram started bugging and would send me notifications late. Like I would receive them in my notification bar and when I opened the app I saw the dm I received was sent anywhere between 1 minute to 30 minutes before the notification arrived. I put up with it but yesterday onwards, I just stopped receiving any notifications from Instagram. I reinstalled it, double and triple checked every possible notification setting was on and I still can't seem to figure it out. Every other app works fine it's just insta that's doing this. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Teenager Mom Here - Tech Novice HELP! Posted: 09 Oct 2020 08:13 AM PDT My son is 14 batshit crazy over girls. I have no clue how to monitor his phone/web content. I have an Android. He has an iPhone. We have Verizon. How can I see his texts or be sure all his stuff backs up to the cloud? Recent behaviors suggest my kid very well may need his ass kicked and I'd like to know who this kid in my house is when I am not looking... App to mirror his phone? He uses Snapchat ALOT. What do I do I have no idea. I do have a desktop too if there are options there. [link] [comments] |

I got adware on my OnePlus 5 phone, need help badly Posted: 09 Oct 2020 10:51 AM PDT So I've been dealing with adware for a while that ONLY opens chrome constantly, and there has been no luck using Malwarebytes and AVG to solve the issue. I haven't found any suspicious apps installed, that are blank or generally needing to be uninstalled for probably being the cause of this, nothing like that. All I DO know is the urls it constantly tries to use, having the following names at their core: oneclickalgo gearbest vpi.hfghty564hjghjhg.tech If I come across anymore urls that would be specific, I'll list them here. Any help would be greatly useful, I don't know where else to go for this, didn't see any rules in the welcome post that this post would go against, hope everyone is nice here. Edit: Tried to disable Chrome to see if that helped, I have an adblocking browser now as the default app, but it opened up still with the same initial "oneclickalgo" link and nothing else, so that didn't help at all. Posted: 09 Oct 2020 10:46 AM PDT I dont think im the only one who did this prior to android 11 and that is use facebook messenger as the default SMS app cause chat heads and convenience, recently I download the release of android 11 on my google pixel 3a and was intregued by a lot of the features (watched an LTT video on android 11, seeing as i want to be a youtube content creator full time i really loved the record the screen and audio from both sources so i downloaded the update) but now the chatheads are "broken" and replaced with (what i feel is far inferior, at the moment) bubbles. My biggest problem is two of the apps that I use dont have bubble support and the other app that i used already had chat heads, so really it for me went backwards, unfortunatly thats not the start of the problem, unlike chat heads when you get a message they dont auto pop up (which was the big part of chat heads for me, well along with the fact you didnt have to go into another app to start a coversation) does anyone know a way to make the bubbles more useful or at least make chat heads work again [link] [comments] |
50gb of data usage in the past 9 days Posted: 09 Oct 2020 10:44 AM PDT Hey I just looked in my data usage and under removed apps and users I got 50gb of data usage just in the past 9 days all in the background what does this mean is it virus or something? How can I check for that and remove it? Please help. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Oct 2020 10:44 AM PDT Like the subject says. I got a Samsung Galaxy J7 Star (SM-737T1) at a considerable discount on Unclaimed Baggage for use as a dedicated device with my Mavic Mini drone, only to discover when I went to install the DJI Fly app that, while the device has a 64-bit processor, it runs a 32-bit version of Android. Thus it's useless for what I bought it for, since the app requires the 64-bit OS. Considering how little I paid for this device, it's not worth it to return to the vendor, so I feel like I have nothing to lose by trying to root it to install a 64-bit version of Android on it. That said, has anyone ever done this kind of upgrade on a J7 Star before? I am a bit out of my element here, as I've never rooted an Android device before, but I feel like it's worth trying. If I brick it, after all, it's not like I could have used it for what I needed anyway, and if I succeed, then it's a win-win overall. Thoughts? [link] [comments] |
Few basic questions about android Posted: 09 Oct 2020 06:55 AM PDT Can .apk files be automatically installed on android without you clicking on them? Can you get infected by malware/virus if you dont download or install any third party .apk files? If you can, how? How to see which apps are running in the background? Is malwarebytes app any good on android?(I know Antiviruses are not needed on android but malwarebytes scan once in a while surely cant be bad) I recently recived email about an item that i placed for sale online and it was 4-5 short sentances long(usual how old is it,whats the condition of the item questions) and Gmail app "clipped" that email and gave me "View entire message" option at the end of that email so i clicked it thinking that there was more text in that email and thats why gmail clipped it but when i clicked it message was exactly the same,no additional text so i am not sure why Gmail "clipped" it. Is it possible that i was infected by some kind of malware?Note that nothing was downloaded or installed,Gmail app has no permission to install apps from unknown sources. Btw my system atm is Android 10. Big thanks for helo everyone! [link] [comments] |
Google using large amounts of background battery Posted: 08 Oct 2020 05:59 PM PDT As you can see, the google app is using massive amounts of background battery. It's not google play services, why would it be doing this? I don't ever use the google app and I in fact have put it into sleeping mode and it still uses my battery. Any advice on why it is behaving like this? [link] [comments] |
Favorite photos no longer favorited after SD card swap? Posted: 09 Oct 2020 06:06 AM PDT Hey all, I filled up my 128 GB SD card recently so I went out and got a 400 GB card to replace it. I copied the contents of the original card to the new card (or at least I thought I did) but my previously favorited photos and videos in Gallery are no longer favorited. It's not a huge deal, I can go through and do it again. But is there any way I can get specific the images and videos back to being marked as favourites? Did I miss copying a file or folder somewhere? This is a Samsung Galaxy S10 running Android 10 security patch level Sept 1, 2020 on the Rogers network in Canada. [link] [comments] |
Pixel 3a XL Screen flickering, anyone else noticed this happening? Posted: 09 Oct 2020 09:32 AM PDT Booted in safe mode and this doesn't happen as much but still slightly. Spoken to @madebygoogle and they pointed me to this https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/6010316?hl=en&ref_topic=7084009 so seems like it's a known problem. Just wanted to see if anyone else knew anything about it. I might factory reset to see if this fixes it. Thanks. [link] [comments] |

Question: Do phones with IR have ability to be set-up, to open the remote-controlled car-gates ? Posted: 09 Oct 2020 12:10 AM PDT I have an old car-gate for the building I live in, which opens via a small remote device, and I was wondering: Could smartphones that have IR be set to open it? Galaxy S9, phone keeps trying to boot when plugged into charger + red light Posted: 09 Oct 2020 08:48 AM PDT Phone got wet last night, left it untouched overnight. When I plugged in the charger this morning this keeps happening. There's a solid red light. The Startup screen pops up "Samsung Galaxy S9" and my phone vibrates but it won't go any further. I tried booting it in recovery mode and it won't go. However, download mode does work. Any ideas where to go from here? [link] [comments] |
New to Android. Are there any videos or tutorials I can benefit from? Posted: 09 Oct 2020 08:21 AM PDT So I'm a life long iphone user and finally made the switch to android after the bite 20 Ultra came out. I'm pretty tech savvy so the switch wasn't too bad but I feel like I'm missing out on so much of what android can really do. Are there any videos or online tutorials, etc. I could watch that would help me get more acquainted? [link] [comments] |
I cant get service on my phone Posted: 09 Oct 2020 04:00 AM PDT My old phone broke, and instead of buying a new one, I took my aunts offer of using her old phone, a (HUAWEI Mate 20 lite). I wasn't aware it was locked to a service so I used a giffgaff and an o2 simcard before being told it was locked to Vodafone. I now have a Vodafone simcard in the phone, but it wont connect to the network. I can go into manually selecting the network and it comes up with, 'network registration failed'. If I have it set to be automatic, it says 'preferred network: no service'. I honestly have no clue what to do, and its been 2 days since I've put the sim in so it should be working by now [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Oct 2020 07:31 AM PDT Hi, I have a Pixel 3, updated to Android 11 a month ago, still don't have the App Suggestions option within Home Settings.. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Oct 2020 01:32 AM PDT About 15% total has been used, per the battery usage screen, but it's in freefall and even shutting the phone off isn't helping, it just keeps right on crashing afterwards. [link] [comments] |
Contacts duplicating / triplicating etc from Skype? Posted: 09 Oct 2020 06:52 AM PDT When I open my standard phone app and go to contacts, I see that I have dozens of contacts stored in my phone for a few specific individuals. It didn't start off this way, obviously, and I haven't been adding the same persons in 20 times. As it is I now have a whole screenful of "Person 1", and then later a full screenful of "Person 12", with the ones in between showing normally, as a single contact. When I look at the contacts in question they seem to have a Skype address only, not phone numbers, so is this Skype misfiring somehow and adding the same person in again and again?
