    Posted: 20 Oct 2020 08:58 AM PDT

Android 11: Possible to Ungroup Power Menu Smart Light Controls?

    Posted: 20 Oct 2020 06:04 AM PDT

When Android 11 first launched, my smart lights were individually listed in the power menu controls. Now, they are grouped by rooms as defined in the Home app. If I want to toggle a particular light, I have to long press the room group, tap the text indicating the number of lights, then finally select which light I want to toggle. What once required a single tap now requires three.

Does anybody know of a way to ungroup these controls?

    "Wierd" android permissions

    Posted: 20 Oct 2020 09:06 AM PDT

    Hi folks

I see nearly all android apps on my phone that have no permissions, have "special" permissions when I tap the three dots on the upper right....

Are those active permissions or what? And Why they are blacked?

    I uploaded the screenshots here:

App for digital signage with widget support?

    Posted: 20 Oct 2020 12:34 PM PDT

I have an android tablet lying around and I want to use it as some kind of Home Command Center. The tablet will be hanged on the wall and it should show things like

    • family calendar
    • today's weather
    • bus schedules
    • simple photo gallery
    • etc.

Most of the informations are already provided by standard app widgets. What I'm looking for is how to display all the widgets in similar manner as Digital Signage displays.

So, I think what I need is a home launcher, that has an option to automatically swipe/slide between home pages. And of course option to keep screen on.

I believe I'm not the first person with this problem, and there must be someone already solved the problem. But sadly my Google-Fu has failed me, I can't seem to find it.

I looked into digital signage apps, but most only supports standard multimedia file formats, i.e. photos, video, ppt.

Other solution would be to make a web page that displays all information, and start Chrome in Kiosk mode. But that is unnecessary complexity.

The home launcher seems to be the easiest, do you guys happen to know any launcher that has option to automatically switch between home pages?

    Volume Adjusting on its own

    Posted: 20 Oct 2020 12:08 PM PDT

So, I was watching YouTube on my tablet (Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 2019 running Android 10) using earbuds. Randomly, while I was looking at my recommendations, my volume started adjusting on its own, switching between minimum and maximum and the left side of my screen was also appearing to be doing something, despite me not even touching that part of the screen (I was in landscape mode at the time) I unplugged my earbuds to see if it was my earbuds, and the problem stopped. I plugged them back in and the volume acted up again. I then restarted my tablet and plugged my earbuds in again and played some music. The volume adjusted itself again.

I've had these earbuds for a few months now, and only today it started doing this. I'm not sure if its my tablet or my earbuds and unfortunately I can't check because I don't have any other pairs of earbuds I can use to check.

So, what could be going on and is there a fix?

Message notifications piling up all over lock screen

    Posted: 20 Oct 2020 11:48 AM PDT

So I just switched from a Pixel 3 to Pixel 4a recently, and both were/are running the latest version of Android 11. I now get this notification behavior where message notifications from GroupMe fill up my lock screen and pile up all over the status bar for each individual missed message. Previously on my Pixel 3, it would stay to one bar on the lock screen and one icon in the status bar no matter how many missed messages there were.

I think some other apps are also doing this (Gmail maybe) but GroupMe is the main offender I can think of at the moment. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Android device not properly connecting to router Wi-Fi

    Posted: 20 Oct 2020 10:43 AM PDT

My android device is a Lenovo A1000. It can connect and receive data from hotspot Wi-Fi. It can also connect to router, but is unable to receive data from the connection. The device displays that it's connected to the router, and even displays the speed, but can't receive or use the router's data. By comparing it to other devices in my household, I had discovered that the only difference is that my Lenovo is lacking a 'Wi-Fi Direct' feature, and I'm not entirely sure if that is the issue. My Lenovo also lacks the 'Reset network settings' feature. Should I attempt to get a new phone, factory reset my Lenovo, or is there anyway to fix this problem?

Samsung j337v's storage is 15.5/16 gb of "system/other" data. What is this? And can I delete any of it?

    Posted: 20 Oct 2020 10:17 AM PDT

I have a samsung j337v, and it has 16 gb of internal storage. 15.5 gb of that is system/other data, according to the myfiles app and avast. I've already deleted the cache on nearly every app and I've also used both avast cleanup and ccleaner to try and reduce the storage. Neither of those put so much as a dent in the bloat. I've had this issue for about a year or two now, and the bloat's just been slowly climbing no matter what I do. I tried using the adp command to delete several system apps I wasn't using (nonessential things like samsung internet and youtube), and it worked for a little, but the storage has just kept filling up since then. Also, device info says it's running android version 9.

Does anyone know what I can do from here?

Did Android Dictation Remove "new line" feature?

    Posted: 19 Oct 2020 05:31 PM PDT

I used to be able to use the "new line" feature during speech-to-text but now only "new paragraph" works, which leaves double-spacing between each line. Has the "new line" feature been completely removed from Android dictation?

Android 9.0 - No Sound, No External SD Card Recognition

    Posted: 20 Oct 2020 09:15 AM PDT

Trying this again. ***damn, I can't believe how hard it is to find help on Android stuff with so many Android people everywhere.

After a full weekend of tech hell, I was able to transform an ailing Windows 10 Tablet (RCA Cambio 10.1) into an Android 9.0 tablet, I have finally found satisfactory success with Android-X86 9.0 r2.

One problem now that I'm trying to fix is that the tablet seems to not be able to read the external Micro SD card slot anymore. Not in the Android 9.0 OS, not in the terminal emulator that I could find, not in Grub that I could find, nothing points to the existence of any micro SD card that I put in the slot. The micro Sd cards work.

Additionally, I find that I can't get any sound out of the tablet now either. Neither with speakers nor with headphones/earphones.

I've not been able to find worthwhile information, so I need to ask here. I'll provide any model numbers or whatever is needed if they are needed.

    Thank you!

But i can't find that folder on my phone, in My Files. But the pictures still show in my storage in my phone. Bit of help please? I have a Samsung A7(2018). I had that album hidden in my gallery, maybe that was the reason?

    Wallpaper glitch, please help!

    Posted: 20 Oct 2020 07:12 AM PDT

I use a Samsung galaxy note 9. Around a year ago I decided to set my lock screen/AOD wallpaper to a picture of deadpool but now whenever I switch to a new wallpaper, it always displays the deadpool picture which fades out revealing my new wallpaper. This also occurs when I turn on my phone and it's very annoying. I've searched google for days but no one has a fix for this.

    Missing Storage Space???

    Posted: 20 Oct 2020 06:38 AM PDT

    64GB Pixel 4 (non-XL)

Using the Files app, it's indicating 59.74GB used. However, when I drill down to see the Categories (Downloads, Images, Videos, etc.), the sum of all the categories is slightly short of 30GB. I can understand and accept variance of a gig or two for whatever, but this is egregious.

Any ideas what this can be? How I can identify it? How I can remove it (if that's the right thing to do)?

    Here's a screenshot what described:

Moto G Power vs A21 vs Moto G Power

    Posted: 20 Oct 2020 02:35 AM PDT

Hi!!! I'm coming from the a10e.. If I was to pick up a new phone later this year for sub 300 dollars, which one of these three would be...? I'm really leaning towards the Moto G Power as my next phone, but samsung has the a21 listed for the same price.. and the Moto G Stylus is just 50 dollars more.. I'm leaning towards the Moto G Power because of it's big battery, Decent cameras, great chipset, 1080p screen, and the ability to take Ultrawide photos and videos.. I don't know.. What would you all pick..?

SD card fried(?) after phone crash

    Posted: 20 Oct 2020 06:10 AM PDT

My LG G7 randomly crashed on me, and when the phone booted back up, it was asking me if I wanted to format the SD card so it was usable. Both Mac and Windows show it as an empty disk that needs to be formatted (actually Mac won't even read it at all).

Are my only options these unreasonably expensive recovery softwares? I tried a couple free trials and they seem to actually find all the files (namely easeUs); I just need to upgrade to full.

Are there any free/cheaper ways to do this? Thanks
