How do I check which app on my phone is sending sms out?

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 05:40 AM PDT

After checking my bill, there was a sms sent out to a number that is not familiar to me and I can't find that particular sms in my inbox. (I've never sent any sms out for years)

    Android 11 media player issues

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 07:53 AM PDT

Since updating to Android 11, the media player ok the swipe down screen seems to come in and out. Sometimes there, sometimes not, and now when other media plays over the main audio, instead of reverting to the main audio once it had finished it disappears forcing me to go back into the app to play it again. Is this an android 11 issue or an app issue?

I've been trying to find a good equalizer that doesn't require root. My device is a Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 running on Android 11 (Weeb Projekt ROM) and with Predator Stormbreaker 8.8 kernel. I really want to avoid rooting my device.

Is there bloatware on pixel phones bought sim free from retailers and not google store?

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 03:14 AM PDT

I want to order the pixel 4a. Google store delivers in 3 weeks, but there are other options. But I don't want to end up with anything brand or carrier related stuff. Will I get the pure android experience if I order from argos, currys and other places?

    YouTube to mp3 for Android

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 02:53 AM PDT

I've been using ytmp3 for the past year but recently it started showing "no title"as title at the download page after converting which put me off so I stopped using it. Does anyone know a safe software to convert bids on Android almost all suggestions I see are pc only, I found ytdownload and y2mate but idk exactly how good/safe they are even with firefox+ublock.

    Keep getting security warnings

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 01:53 AM PDT

My email is used as the recovery for my daughter's Google account.

I have been getting emails saying her account has been logged into on new device several times a day for the past few days.

I've checked the activity and the "new" devices are always the ones she has.

I even did find my device on the devices shown and it shows them at our address.

I've spoken to her and she hasn't signed up for anything new or done anything unusual. She mainly just plays Roblox and watches YouTube.

    Charging problems after update

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 11:34 AM PDT

Every phone I've ever had seems to have worse battery life after updates. I use my phone to call, text, message, and browse the internet. That's about it. I have a pixel 2xl that wasn't consistently taking a charge and now won't even charge at all now. I would think it is my phone if it wasn't for the fact that my husband, who has an LG, is having the same issue after a recent update. It started the same exact day as my charging issue. Weird coincidence? It's not even charging if I hold it at an angle like I've done in the past with another phone. Just not charging. It's infuriating. Planned obsolescence in action? Bad luck?

    Questions on notifications

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 11:34 AM PDT

So a few months ago I got a Motorola edge 5g, and I've loved having it so far but for some reason it seems like atleast half of the time I don't actually get a notification about receiving a text message. Feels like it mostly happens while listening to podcasts, but I'll randomly pick up my phone see no new messages as far as the notification bar says then I open the messages app and see that I have a new text from 10+ mins ago! I've gone through every single setting I can think of regarding notification or allowing notifications to interrupt audio(which I couldn't find). I've made sure that every setting says it will make a sound but rarely does. With my last phone it would automatically stop whatever I'm listening to to play the notification sound, I need that.

Long story short: half the time my Motorola edge 5g won't play the notification sound when I receive a text in general but mostly when listening to podcasts. How can I change that or what could possibly be keeping it from going off?

Also, has the notification sound and phone call ringtone always been tied together? I thought it was always a seperate setting? Maybe I'm doing something wrong but I can't seem to independently raise the notification sound while having my ringtone lower.

Thanks for any responses in advance, I appreciate it!

    Back button behaving badly?

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 07:36 AM PDT

I've noticed that the back button occasionally acts up on my Pixel 3 running Android 11. The shadow around the button persists for much longer than the button was pressed, enough for me to get a screenshot. Any idea? Has anyone else seen this? It seems system wide, not related to a particular app.

    Carrier firmwares

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 10:38 PM PDT

I was curious about something. So we have bunch of carrier firmwares atleast for my galaxy s8 and I don't see any unlocked firmware from samsung only carrier ones. Phone supports both cdma and gsm carriers but carriers only support their own networking. Atleast the ones I know.

I was wondering if there is a carrier firmware that has both gsm and cdma networking enabled on their firmware. Or any other way to enable it on the phone ?

It seems super inconvenient to have a phone that supports all bands but you have to go and change firmware everytime you put a different sim card.

Any tips for using old phone?

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 10:57 AM PDT

Hello everyone, I have an old unused phone and I was thinking if there is any way of using it. I mean it s REALLY old and slow (Android 4.2.2, 1 GB RAM) so I m quite out of ideas. Even really weird or funny purposes of using it are welcome (bored during quarantine, so I m not afraid of experimenting but I m not a technical genius)

Would be glad for any response and wishing everyone a great day

Work profile and device admin access on Android 11

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 09:52 PM PDT

I've recently started using Outlook again for my work email, although not by choice. I'm on a pixel 3 running Android 11. Since my work email requires admin access for remote wipe abilities, which I obviously do not want to enable, I'm using the Island app to trigger a work profile that I can quarantine a copy of Outlook to.

I was reading some documentation about the depreciation of Device Admin in favor of managing a work profile, and I've run into a few questions I can't seem to answer:

    1. Island advertises it's ability to have an always on vpn running on both the island (work profile) and the mainland (main/personal profile). I have a vpn that I use as always on, but none of my work apps connect through it. How can I get my work profile to connect through my always-on vpn?

    2. Since Android 11 is depreciating device admin, how is Outlook still able to request and acquire this permission? And is there a way to force past that?

2a. If it's an api targeting issue, which app would need to target the proper api level to not use device admin - island or Outlook?

    Disabling broken proximity sensor

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 02:53 AM PDT

    Hi,

I repaired my xiaomi redmi note 7 but just couldn't get the proximity sensor working, so I just closed it back up and decided I'd just disable it. However I just can't figure out how. I thought it would be easy but there is no one solution and I think it depends on the device. It's got pixel experience on it at the moment and I can root it if thats necessary.

    Anydesk

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 01:30 PM PDT

Hi! I have just bought my Mother a K13 Oukitel and installed Anydesk, set up settings so I can access anytime and installed the recommended add one. My phone is a Samsung S10 plus, again all the recommended add one installed.

I can view my Mother's screen absolutely fine but can not control it... It's weird because the first time I tried I could and it worked perfectly.

No matter what settings I fiddle with I can seem to get it working.

HELP please. She's had a stroke and I need this software.

Trying to recover data off a phone with no battery

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 09:10 PM PDT

xiaomi mi max. Unlocked and rooted. no battery (ribbon cable snapped).

If i power on normally it will just bootloop. I can get into fastboot but not twrp

I've tried fastboot boot twrp.img but it seems to exit fastboot and go back into the bootloop.

Running adb reboot recovery says error: no devices/emulators found.

Short of buying another battery I'm not sure what else to try

VoIP services make system audio quality severely worse.

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 05:51 PM PDT

Hi, I am not sure how to format posts on here as this is my first time posting on the AndroidQuestions Reddit page. Today I wanted to bring up an issue that seems to affect many Android users but no one seems to be talking about. When you use a VoIP service and have it go through the speaker all audio will be severely worse. To recreate this you can open up discord while having music playing (whether it is on Spotify, youtube music, or somewhere else, matter it does not). Join any voice call, and then for the audio output select anything but the phone. That means it can be a speaker, wired headphones, or whatever else it shows for you. After a few seconds, you will most likely notice a degrade in audio quality. The music will have no bass, it will sound almost as tho the volume of the music is changing a little bit really fast.

I have found a few posts about this on different forums, mostly related to the Samsung S8, but when I asked my friends who have other Android phones they have the same issues. Seems to be an issue on Samsung S8 and newer, some Huawei phones, Most Xiaomi Phones, LG phones, and probably many others.

Has anyone found a solution to this? Do you have this problem?
