I am an Android Developer with 3 years of experience. Want to learn something non-android in my free time. What do you suggest?

    Posted: 11 Oct 2020 07:19 AM PDT

Hi, I am an Android Developer from India with 3 years of experience. I have become pretty good with Dagger2, RxJava2, MVVM, Unit Testing, Firebase etc.

I want to learn something non-android in my free time. Something that enriches my profile in years to come. I have Node.js in my mind as I get to know the difficulties and challenging of backend programming, this I believe will help me when I become Architect or something.

I am not confused amoung Node.js, GoLang, Artificial Intelligence.

One of my senior Node.js engineer colleague told that there are plenty of people who know Node.js. So he advised me to learn GoLang as it will be in boom within 2 years in India.

Give me your opinion on this.

I hesitate to publish my apps on the Play Store

    Posted: 11 Oct 2020 06:13 AM PDT

I often get asked from potential employers if I've published any apps on the Play Store, and I say no. I've been doing Android apps for 4 years now but I've always been hesitant to publish one out of the fear of getting banned like how so many have been. But I feel like I'm missing out on opportunity. What's the best way I can go about this?

    Posted: 11 Oct 2020 07:47 AM PDT

I have tried every solution available on the internet from adb start to kill server switching ports, restarting android studio and my device but nothing seems to work. The device when put into debugging mode shows the RSA fingerprint and it shows in the android studio too when i click run the gradle runs fine but when it comes to install I get the error that installation failed bcz the device is offline. Any solution?

PS : This all started when I updated android studio previously I was using 3.5 version now the latest one and I have everything up to-date.

    Indie Dev App Launch Checklist

What are in your opinion the best ad services to implement in an Android Studio project besides AdMob?

    Posted: 11 Oct 2020 04:35 AM PDT

I have experienced using AdMob with my first app before summer, and although it seems like a great service, with easy implementation, the bad part comes when you actually want the ads to work, or expect to get paid. I mean, in order for AdMob ads to work, I got a message from Google AdSense that I need to verify my physical address using a verification code. I did just this (3 times) and have been waiting since before this summer, but the verification code never arrived (and I doubt it ever will). By the way, I live in Eastern Europe.

Therefore, I am trying to look for alternatives to AdMob, because I don't want to have to wait for my address to be verified. It either takes too long, or it never takes place XDDD

I heard from some people here that Unity Ads might be a good alternative. But I also wanted to hear others' opinions.

Thank you so much in advance!

Can ConnectionService be blocked/managed to prevent Discord Voice Chat audits in a tracker app?

    Posted: 10 Oct 2020 10:22 PM PDT

Hello - I am looking for help/knowledge from someone who knows how the android Connection Service interacts with an app like Discord and another tracker app (running on the phone) that might audit/log that the voice call event occurred. I am not a developer person and only tried doing google research to see how Discord Voice might be logged on a phone (so I might be very incorrect with my question). It looked like the ConnevtionService class is listed for this? What I am hoping to do is delete and discord voice chat logs & audits on a phone (this cleans the discord specific logs)... but how can I manage or block these voice events from being recorded/tracked/logged/etc if there is a tracker type app also on the phone? I'm sorry that I don't have the exact name of the tracking app, but I was hoping that the way discord works might be the same for all? Thank you in advance for any help you can provide. If I need to clarify or ask the question better please let me know. Thank you.

TFProfiler – App to profile TensorFlow Lite model

    Posted: 10 Oct 2020 12:39 PM PDT

I created a TFProfiler that helps to measure TensorFlow Lite model performance with FPS, model initialization time, inference time, memory consumption, etc right on device. You can tweak model runs with different delegates (CPU, GPU, NNAPI, HEXAGON), XNNPACK option, etc. You can play with built-in models like YOLOV4, MobileNet, or Blazeface.

    Source code is here https://github.com/iglaweb/TFProfiler

Monetizing an app that may or may not use copyrighted sounds?

    Posted: 10 Oct 2020 06:53 PM PDT

Hi. It's not as bad as it sounds in the title ( or is it? :c ).

I have an idea for a small Android app that'd cater to a pretty niche gaming community, however I'd have to use a few sound files from the original game. Nothing major, but still, files that were shipped with the game (10 small 1sec audio files). The company itself whose game it is wouldn't probably even care about it in this day and age, but still, I don't want to do something that I'd regret later.

So, would adding ads to the app be copyright infringement and profiting off of someones IP? I wouldn't be selling/charging any money for the app obviously, only profit (if any) would come from an ad the user sees, and I'm even thinking of making that ad entirely optional (like - you only see it if you deliberately open the menu and press the "see ad" button out of your own volition).

Anyway, yeah, input would be very welcome. Thanks!

What do Android Developer interviews look like?

    Posted: 10 Oct 2020 09:08 AM PDT

Aspiring Android Dev here. As the title suggests, I'm curious what the general layout of interviews is for the field? Are there Leetcode of Hackerrank questions like a lot of the industry has, or is it more peer-to-peer review of projects you've worked on/completed?

As I learn the tech I'd like to also prepare for pursuing a job and want to be prepared. I'd love to hear some insight for everyone here.

    Thanks in advance.
