Google Home app not available in Android TV

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 05:10 AM PDT

The Home tab should be an inbuilt feature of Android TV. Streaming cameras, checking on sensors or quickly toggling on/off lights and devices could be a great feature which could be added to Android TV.

Old TV with coupled with cheap android boxes could easily be used as camera monitoring devices - for streaming multiple camera feeds.

A simple two/three quick clicks on the microphone button (on tv remote) could be used to bring up Google Home screen.

Option to enable/disable Smart Home device specific notifications on TV could be a great addition.
Imagine while watching Netflix you get a pop-up notification that 'Person detected on front door camera' and you could quickly check out the camera feed in one click.

I wonder how the new Chromecast will compare in performance to the Mi Box S, being that they should be around the same price. I can't complain too much about the MiBox S. 4k 60 with HDR turned on isn't bad for $50. It is starting to show it's age still being on android 9/10 though. Thoughts?

Theory: Google TV on the new Chromecast is just Google's branded/customized version of Android TV

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 08:16 AM PDT

Android TV allows customization for carriers/Cable STB makers. They usually haven't allowed this for retail STB like Mi Box and Shield. But either that's changing, or Google just said 'Fuck it, it's ours, we can do what we want'.

I think 'Google TV' on the new Chromecast is just Google's customized/branded version of Google TV - just like on the Pixel line - it's now Google's customized/branded version of Android - and not just stock Android anymore like it used to be (even though still pretty close).

The similarities in how the home screen looks on the Google TV, and how it looks on carrier's/cable co's customized Android TV STB units, is what led me to believe this.

    Showing slideshow while keeping sound

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 06:26 AM PDT

    Hi everyone,

I was wondering if its possible to show a presentation, slideshow or just a picture (maybe a screensaver?) while still keeping the sound of the television. I want to be able to have radio playing through the television while showing pictures. (it's a Philips television: model 49PUS6401/12)

    Thanks in advance

My Hisense H8F got an Android TV update today!

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 11:39 AM PDT

It was to Android 9 with a security update as of Nov 2019... whomp whomp

It's still a decent secondary TV for the price I paid and I didn't get it just because it ran Android TV but damn these integrators really suck with updates.

Edit before anyone comments: Yes, I knew that Android updates on (most) non-Google hardware can be sporadic at best. Yes, I also know the Nvidia Shield is objectively the best Android TV device - my OG 2015 in another room is still running strong.

The new arrival has landed-- Google 1080P ATV projector

Believe MoGo Pro + would be the best 1080P portable ATV projector of 2020.

Who's gonna be the first to get it?

    Autofocus?

Auto keystone correction? (vertical and horizontal)

    Larger battery?

    Rotatable stand?

    5000+apps?

    1080P? 2k, 4K compatible?

Built-in ATV system and Harman/Kardon speaker?

    Who knows? MoGo Pro+

Can I use my phone to control Smart YT?

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 06:54 PM PDT

I see that people love this app but I am really used to queuing up a quick playlist on my phone and then casting it. Would I be able to do that? Would I have to disable the stock YT app or something?
