I published my very first app, can you tell me any tips to promote it? Posted: 13 Jun 2020 06:36 AM PDT Hello! I just published my very first App in the PlayStore, It's completely free. I open to listen any feedback to make it bigger. Is there any thread or site where I can promote my App? The app is called ShopList and the idea is a way to always remember what to buy when you go shopping. The thing is you always have your phone on you, so everytime you realize something runs out at home, you just type it in. It remembers the prices of the products and tell you an estimate of how much you will pay. That way you also save money using it. It also lets you see your historial so can know how much you spent in the month, share your lists and create notifications. All while keeping it simple. I'm looking foward to your suggestions. I love this community. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.missnalgas.shoplist&hl=en [link] [comments]

GitHub Actions used to build an Android project (with working UI tests - on emulators) Posted: 13 Jun 2020 05:51 AM PDT I have converted my android-showcase project to use. Now I am running UI tests on Android emulators and I have an infinite number of parallel executors. Here is the full workflow config for GitHub Actions https://github.com/igorwojda/android-showcase/tree/master/.github/workflows [link] [comments]
Will an update APK also update the internal SQLite database? Posted: 13 Jun 2020 05:46 AM PDT If I have an app built running on an SQLite database (everything is completely offline). If I then release an update, with changes to the database, will that also be updated or does the user need to uninstall and reinstall the app to see the database changes? Changes can include new columns and more entries to the database. [link] [comments]

So how does one actually apply to work as a junior app developer? Posted: 12 Jun 2020 08:29 PM PDT I have two demo apps already published on Github, so what is the next step? I see jobs posted like this one here https://www.jobstreet.com.my/en/job/junior-android-mobile-app-developer-4317795?fr=SRP%20View%20In%20New%20Tab&jobId=jobstreet-my-job-4317795&searchRequestToken=c444c941-380f-4a22-812b-3889408d6355§ionRank=1 but I am actually inclined to just contact the company directly and ask for a walk-in instead of applying through Jobstreet and then twiddling my thumbs as I wait. Also what should I actually make as my resume? Sorry that this sounds like a very silly question but I am quite undecided since this is my first time actually seriously applying for a IT job as a self-taught stay at home freelancer. What I am thinking is making like a one or two page resume in the same style of what Elon Musk did for his own resume https://novoresume.com/career-blog/elon-musk-one-page-resume But I still would like to make a reference to my two demo apps on Github, so should I just post the Github URL in the resume paper, or maybe add a section with the screenshots from the app along with a description?? (I see there is the "No help me posts" warning while creating a flair, so please let me know if this post should be made in a different sub!) [link] [comments]

Updated Google Play Developer Distribution Agreement Posted: 12 Jun 2020 11:36 AM PDT Hello Google Play Developer, We're continually striving to make Google Play a positive experience for both our developers and our users. For this reason, we've introduced the following changes to the Developer Distribution Agreement (DDA): • We added to the definition of "Play Console" that the Play Console is available as an app to developers. • We updated the terms and a support article to remove "for the marketing of" and inserted "to make Your Products available in Google Play" (Section 3.1). • We added that developers will receive notice of revisions to the "Service Fee" as provided in Section 15 (Section 3.4). • We deleted wording regarding enforcement actions Google can take when a developer fails to comply with the DDA (Section 4.7). • We deleted wording regarding Product ratings that is out of date and replaced with a more detailed description of quality factors that will appear in the developer policies (Section 4.11). • We deleted the phrase "in its sole discretion" in two places and added examples of what may include an "adverse impact" warranting suspension of a developer or a Product (Section 8.3). • We updated the terms to (i) add 30 days notice before termination for the reasons specified in Section 10.3 if required under applicable law, (ii) add a right for Google to terminate if there is potential for economic, reputational or security related harm to Google, users, or our partners, (iii) add "Where allowed under applicable law" to Google's termination for any reason, and (iv) add that, upon termination by Google, developers will lose access to the Play Console and we included a link to a related help article (Section 10.3). • We added "To the maximum extent permitted by law" to the Disclaimer of Warranties (Section 12.1). • We added references to specific export control and sanctions regulations to the export law provision (Section 16.5). • We added that developers may have other ways to resolve disputes with Google as described in the developer policies (Section 16.6). • We added that the terms are silent on governing law for developers accepting on behalf of a United States city, county or state government entity (Section 16.6). These changes will go into effect starting July 12, 2020 for existing developers, and immediately for all new developer accounts created as of June 12, 2020. No action is required on your part. Ways to offer secondary verification of authenticity of an Android app Posted: 13 Jun 2020 12:46 AM PDT I know a lot of FOSS projects publish to f-droid and that has a great system of using PGP signatures to verify the APK files. What I'm curious about is how to verify apps deployed from the google playstore. Now obviously PlayStore verifies the apps submitted but on more than one occasion, phishing apps that share a similar name have remained up for days. Here are a few ways to verify the apps, that made sense to me.
#1 is the simplest but isn't really cryptographically hardended. Just makes sure the users type in the same URL you tell them to and hope there is no DNS hijack other exploits at play. #2 is nice since it is trivial to extract the signing cert from an installed APK and the cert fingerprint can be verified against the one in the source repo. The signing cert never (or should never) changes so there is little maintenance this creates. And finally, most any JDK / ADK install will be able to verify an APK against a given cert. #3 is probably the most complete since the user can checksum their installed APK against the one in the source repo, or simply install the one listed in the source repo. This does put extra work on the developer since they need to remember to publish a release via github whenever they push a releast to Google. I know it's paranoid, but there are some bitcoin Android apps that might warrant a heightened sense of paranoia. Thoughts? PS: Let me know if you can think of a better sub for the Q... I'm not sure this is the right place. [link] [comments]
How many users uninstall your app without even signup? Posted: 12 Jun 2020 12:11 PM PDT Hi, Hope you all are doing good in these difficult times. Two days ago I have published my first app on playstore and I am quite excited, I am getting around 10-12/ downloads a days however I have noticed that many users (around 80%) are uninstalling my app without even signup, this is quite interesting to me because I have a very simple signup process (only login via twitter) and this is a twitter utility app thus a user downloading this from playstore likely have a twitter account. is this normal behavior for others too? I have also checked Crashlytics and there are no errors on login/signup screen. [link] [comments]

What has your experience been with modern Android development tools and process? Posted: 12 Jun 2020 08:44 AM PDT Hey all! Do you, or does anyone you know work on a mobile dev team? I'm collecting some data on the state of mobile tools and process, and would really appreciate it if you'd take a couple of minutes to fill out this survey, or pass it along: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf7BsxopueDJ8G6m5TEZ9_7XOki500Yp_AQ9raQki_tZHlBqw/viewform Engineers, PMs, EMs, CTOs and iOS devs/teams are also welcome. Feel free to reply with any questions or suggestions, and thanks so much in advance. [link] [comments]
Having trouble with learning OOP Posted: 12 Jun 2020 05:58 PM PDT So I've been doing a set of Android dev courses over the past few months(The one I linked above is one of many from the same series). I've gotten to the OOP part of the course and I'm so confused. I get confused when the instructor mentions things like the method and parameter, etc; What can I do to help with understanding it ?
