Changing phone carriers and Pixel 3a is locked from new SIM card Posted: 01 May 2020 01:25 PM PDT I bought my phone directly from Google through a trade-in program about a year ago and set it up immediately with Verizon. This month, I tried to switch my phone line to T Mobile, but when I put in the new T-mobile SIM card, I get an error message saying "SIM card isn't supported. Ask Verizon if this device can be unlocked." I've spoken to T Mobile, Verizon, and Google. Here is what each said: T mobile: When they put out the request for Verizon to transfer my phone line, it should automatically unlock my phone. If it's not working, I should contact Verizon. Verizon Agent #1: When you get the phone from Google and set it up with Verizon, Verizon then locks the phone (something about after x number of days). Directed me to another Verizon help line. Verizon Agent #2: Verizon doesn't lock phones unless it has been reported missing/stolen or if there's a payment due. Since neither of those were true, the agent said I should contact the retailer I bought my phone from, which is the Google Store. Google: Help agent tried a couple different solutions: Solution 1 - turn on Developer option to enable "OEM unlocking." When I tried this, the OEM unlock option was disabled/grayed out with the message "Unavailable on carrier-locked devices". Solution 2 - Factory reset. This didn't work. He finally told me to contact Verizon because my phone says it is "carrier-locked". Before I pull my hair out talking to another agent, does anyone have any idea what is going on and how I can unlock my phone? Appreciate any help. Thanks! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 01 May 2020 10:22 AM PDT Past few days my phone has been taking a while to charge and then drains quite fast. I was thinking the battery was originally just starting to get bad, but this wasnt a gradual thing, it just started happening all of a sudden. I go under the battery usage and there isn't anything major that has been using up my battery life, nor does the total percentage even get close to how much I've lost. I let my phone sit over night not being charged when it was around 85%, in the morning (8 and a half hours later) my phone was at 65%. Still nothing in the battery usage could explain why the big loss. I've read a few articles, and I've delete apps, restricted background use and disabled apps I dont use or dont need. I've even switched up chargers and adapters and some of them charge faster, but doesnt really hold any better battery life. I dont want to factory reset my phone, although I will if I have to in cause of a bug or something. How can I fix or at least help this? [link] [comments] |
Google Photos doesn't seem to upload in the background like it used to. Galaxy S9+ Posted: 01 May 2020 08:02 AM PDT Is this a new thing or has anyone had this problem or know a solution? Edit: Fixed by deleting and reinstalling app. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
My Huwawei P30 Lite Kills way too many background processes. How to stop? Posted: 01 May 2020 11:01 AM PDT Like the title, it's great for battery but some apps like GroupMe, Pushbullet, Twilight, etc cease to function because they need some sort of background. Advice? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 May 2020 10:36 AM PDT Hi all, I wanted to set a pattern password for my phone so I dont always have to use my fingerprint on the back. I set the pattern and locked the phone to try it. To my horror, the pattern dont work and it phone stays locked. I forgot the pattern! I can still access the phone (I'm typing on it now) because I have my password and prints saved, however I really wanted the pattern to work :( would mean I can answer msgs without picking the phone up on my desk. Can I reset it without knowing what it is? Tia [link] [comments] |

Mom was told her phone will stop working next year due to network upgrades Posted: 30 Apr 2020 09:39 PM PDT Hello All, My mom got an email from ting stating "The four major US carriers are shutting down their older networks in favor of newer LTE and 5G networks. Your phone (the ASUS ZenFone 3 ZE552KL) lacks the Voice over LTE (VoLTE) technology to make calls over these networks. As a result, your phone will begin to experience issues such as dropped calls, failed connections and general poor call quality. It's unlikely that your phone will work at all on any major network after the end of 2020." Is this just saying only one feature will stop working and thats it? She should be able to still make calls using regular cell signals right? Also general cell data should still work right? Seems insane to think that a network upgrade would just make millions of perfectly functioning phones obsolete. Are there even any budget phones with 5G modems on them? I thought that was just coming out with the latest wave of flagship phones. [link] [comments] |
Why is the storage on my Galaxy Tab S5e full? Posted: 01 May 2020 11:17 AM PDT I'm told that I've only used 15GB between downloading apps and other things but my 64GB storage is full. How do I fix this? I've barely used it. [link] [comments] |
suspicious app asking for permissions then vanishing Posted: 01 May 2020 12:23 PM PDT Hi guys, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post about this, so if not just let me know and I'll delete it. I was on my phone (pixel XL) ten minutes ago and I went to close random apps I had up, and suddenly an app pops up saying it's a phone health scan and it needs permissions to work. I didn't ever install an app that does this, and I was super suspicious of it immediately and said no, and then when I checked my currently installed apps nothing similar showed up. I'm almost positive it was an app, I wasn't running chrome or anything at the time so it wasn't like one of those annoying pop ups. I googled the issue but "Phone health" apps just bring up apps that are useful for improving your own health. I didn't find anything about apps that determine the health of your phone. Does anyone know what this is? Is it a virus?? I scanned with MBAM and it found nothing but I'm not convinced. I can provide other information if needed, but this is pretty much everything I can think of. Thanks so much for your help! [link] [comments] |
Is my phone compromised? Hacked? GPS seems off for certain websites (Amazon, Craigslist, etc) Posted: 01 May 2020 12:11 PM PDT I was trying to use a friend's Amazon Prime account but it asked for extra security measures. On his end it showed a text saying someone on a Galaxy 8 in Maryland trying to use his account. I live in PA. To check the location I went to Craigslist and it showed Philadelphia by default. I went into incognito mode and Firefox Focus and Craigslist defaults to Maryland. Bestbuy.com defaults to MD. Walmart defaulted to California. Another website used West Virginia as my default location. My location preference is set to High Accuracy. My Google maps is showing me in Philly. Is someone spoofing my GPS? I tried contacting Sprint support but they were absurdly unhelpful. Any of this making sense? Am I possibly hacked and my GPS is being cloned or something?? Idk how this crap works lol. Thanks for any help [link] [comments] |
Samsung update removed access to hidden albums? Posted: 01 May 2020 02:17 PM PDT My Samsung A20e had a software update last night. Since then, my hidden albums are inaccessible. When I go onto gallery and hide/unhide albums, they aren't even listed there as an option to unhide. If I go into the attachments option on whataspp, the files are still there as an option to send/share. So they must still exist in the phone. I just can't access them myself through the gallery. Any ideas how to unhide the albums so I can get my stuff back? [link] [comments] |

Screen recording with no color Posted: 01 May 2020 11:12 AM PDT I have a Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro, android version 8.1.0. and no matter what screen recording app i use, screen recordings always turn out grey, without color. Does anyone have any idea how to fix it? I tried several different screen recording apps, rebooting my phone, force stopping the apps, clearing data... Nothing works. The thing that also confuses me is that my screenshots turn out perfectly normal. Can someone please help me fix this, it'd be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |

[Galaxy S9+] Google Play Store won't auto update my apps Posted: 01 May 2020 02:12 PM PDT Like the title says play store doesn't auto update apps anymore. I tried deleting cache but it didn't work. Also spotify won't download songs until I open the app. Before I updated my phone spotify would donwload the songs without opening the app. I think it has to do with background activities and maybe power saving mode. What can I do? [link] [comments] |
Need replacement phone and have no clue what I'm doing Posted: 01 May 2020 01:48 PM PDT Hello! So, I'm still new to posting, and I apologise if this is the wrong sub. I currently have a Moto x4, it's done me extremely well these last couple years and still works, except for the microphone. No way to fix it, so I'm looking to buy a new phone as I'm due an upgrade this year anyways. The phone was bought outright, and my contract simply pays for my texts, calls and data. My question is really what would be a good replacement phone for the Moto x4? I'm not that technologically advanced and have always had help when buying phones, so doing this on my own is a bit daunting. I don't need anything fancy, just something I'm able to text, call and use social media and apps on. Whilst a good camera would be nice, I'm not one for using my phone past the uses above. Obviously I would prefer it to run android, and I'm looking to buy a phone outright online, as I can exactly go into a phone shop with this issue during the pandemic. Any questions feel free to ask, and I appreciate any guidance you're willing to offer! [link] [comments] |
