Tablets and smartwatches are in a sad state as of late. It feels like Apple did their homework and research before releasing the iPad and Apple Watch, whereas Android manufacturers were like "Beat Apple, go" and resulted in poorly optimized and buggy software running on cheap hardware. Apple tailored app UI to take advantage of their screens whereas Android apps feel merely scaled up or shrunk down from smartphone specs. If only history played out different... [concept] Proper text selection tooling Posted: 21 May 2020 05:51 AM PDT This is a bit of a rant. I don't know if it's just me, but I think text selection and cursor control on android (at least with gboard) kind of sucks. Ever tried to add new text between two "i"? I'd just delete it all and type it again at that point. Anyway, it made me wonder, why isn't there some nicer tooling for adjusting text selections? I think it should be part of the keyboard and pop up whenever a selection is active. I made some mocks, to show how I think it could be done, what do you think?
