For those of you looking for a replacement for darksky, give shadow weather a try. UX is similar enough to dark sky that I personally like it, plus it's developed by a single independent dev. (I'm not affiliated with the dev, I just like the app and thought it could be helpful to others to share).

What features or specs are you still waiting for before you upgrade your phone?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 05:08 PM PDT

I have a list of requirements for both my PC and my phones. If the specs match this or reach this, I will consider upgrading from my current device.

I opened that list today and I realized that most of the flagship phones nowadays match pretty much every requirement I have.

    It's very simple:

    • 128GB base storage
    • 8GB RAM base
    • 120Hz screen refresh rate
    • 240Hz touch sampling rate
    • No curved screen
    • Bigger camera sensor, noticeably better pictures/video
    • GNSS L1+L2 signals
    • In-display fingerprint reader
    • UFS 3.0+ storage
    • 5G

There are couple of things that don't match; for example, I don't want a curved screen. I hate them, and I think it's a terrible trend that Samsung started.

Not many phones still have L1+L2 GNSS GPS. But I do wonder how much difference does it actually make?

But the biggest one for me is the camera. While the big sensor race has finally started, there really is not a single phone of the camera very obviously beats my OG Pixel. There are better camera phones, no doubt, but they are marginally better and with the custom GCam I can take some incredible pictures still, with this old phone.

So camera is pretty much the only thing still holding me back from upgrading. I would disregard the curved screen and the GNSS GPS, but the camera has to be good.

Do you have a similar list? How far away is the industry from matching what you require for an upgrade?

Does anyone remember lineageOS's update on april 1st a few years ago?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 12:47 PM PDT

Do you remember when lineageOS decided to prank some people amd release an OTA april 1st?

It happened to brick people's phones and they got a lot of negative press and feedback.

Just thought it would be funny to reflect on that moment and give users a warning if something similar will happen today.

New Update for Lenovo Yoga Table 2 Pro 1380F, unbelievable (still Android 5.01)

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 07:28 AM PDT

Today on aprilfools, i got a new update for my beloved and hated Yoga Tablet 2 pro 1380f, but sadly no patchnotes, i think it updated the kernel.

For a piece of hardware, that almost was dead due to no software updates (still stuck on Android 5.0.1), it was a miracle to me.

Are there any Tablet 2 Pro owners still out there?
