    problems with my android

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 07:30 AM PDT

Hello, I have a problem which I didn't care about until it became a big one. I have a Nokia 3.1 and when I connect my bluetooth earbuds, one earbud starts cutting out. This happens if my phone is in sleep mode, sometimes when it's awake and sometimes always. Is it because of my phone or a problem with the earbuds?

    No Play Movies subtitles?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 08:08 AM PDT

    Hello,

I'm not seeing any option to enable subtitles in Play Movies on my Galaxy S9? This is either in movies themselves or through the settings menu - does anyone have any idea?

This isn't isolated to a single movie but all the movies I try to watch

The app is up to date

Woke up to a random app called "Meet" installed on s9

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 12:05 PM PDT

Happen to anyone else? I never installed this app. I deleted it immidiately and then changed my password just in case. I know Samsung LOOOVES its bloatware, so that's what I assume this is.

android screen randomly turns on, how do i keep it off?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 12:14 PM PDT

Device: Nubia Red Magic 3 (not rooted)

my device randomly turns on, i have no option for ambient display in my settings, turned off all settings related to turning the screen on so the only way to turn onthe screen is the on/off button.

i know the turning on either isn't happening because of light or touch, or it is happening because of both, as it happens when in my pocket or when just laying on my desk/table.

i don't care about the added battery usage, but i have called the emergency number 3 times already and cant remove that from my standard lock screen (always a single tap), so i switched to hi-locker, which occasionally stops working leaving my phone without a password. i removed all shortcuts to communications from my phone to prevent calling/texting people from my pocket. (which has happened already.)

what can i do to keep my screen turned off unless the power button is pressed? i have googled but all the solutions i can find either require turning off ambient display, which i dont have, or require apps that need a rooted phone, which i don't have.

Google backup data section is missing some items

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 12:05 PM PDT

Hi guys, I searched around for this but came up empty.

I was expecting my google backup menu to look like this:
    https://ibb.co/hf94fX7

    But my Note8 shows this:
    https://ibb.co/7RSnSF9

Why am I missing some of these data? I am especially worried about App Data. I have a Samsung Note8 btw. Cheers

I'm currently using a phone with no service, there is a voicemail notification in the push notifications I can't get rid of. How do I get rid of it?

    Posted: 31 Mar 2020 09:14 PM PDT

It's really just a small thing... But it annoys me to no end to have that notification and I can't figure out how to get rid of it.

The phone is an LG v20. I can't make calls on it to clear the notification obviously. I'd just like to have it gone.

Edit: got mad at it. Solved it myself.

Go to: settings > apps > 3 dots > show system (apps) > call services > clear data

Boom. Notifications gone. No loss of anything. Check voicemails later at your leisure. This only gets rid of the notifications (which is what I wanted).

Not a single software update on S9+ in two years

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 07:49 AM PDT

I have been trying to get a software update on my S9+ for the last year after buying the phone nearly two years ago. I purchased the phone unlocked from Ebay Canada (Sprint model) and now use it on Google Fi, and previously Bell in Canada.

I have spent time on the phone with Bell, Sprint and Samsung. I'm on Android and Samsung 8.0 and each company tries to pawn me off back to eachother saying the software push needs to come from the other company.

When searching for an update, it always says software up to date. When I plug my phone into the computer it's the same thing.

How do I upgrade to Pie and OneUI? One person on the phone said I needed to factory reset my phone but I'm not interested in doing that and losing everything, nor do I know if that will work. He was just guessing.

    Any help appreciated.

How to Block spam calls on samsung?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 01:14 PM PDT

Hi, I used to have a Google pixel, it automatically blocked/ignored all spam calls. Now I have a Galaxy S10e and the spam calls come through and ring my phone. Does Samsung not have a built in way to block spam calls like Pixel does?

    Quality of MMS Messages

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 01:10 PM PDT

So just had an experience with receiving a picture through text (it was from an iphone if that matters) when I clicked on the picture it was super blurry, however when I downloaded the picture and looked at it in my gallery the quality got significantly better. Why is this and is there a way to fix? I would hate to have to download every picture sent to me just to see it with its original quality.

Do you consider tech YouTubers experts?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 12:54 PM PDT

Tech YouTubers review a wide variety of products a lot of them being smartphones, could be Apple but I only ever focus on Android devices and they review the device and show some pros and cons but they never go in depth or into detail about things. Most of them seem naive in the instance of, for example exynos existing outside of the US. 99% of these technology nerds don't acknowledge this yet they're meant to be the knowledgable ones! I think their videos are very useful though but they pretty much just read a spec sheet and open some apps nothing major.

More recently all YouTubers are starting to bandwagon about how poor performance is on the exynos 990 opposed to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 yet they're only doing this because its a hot topic that'll get them views. Most didn't even know what exynos was before. In saying that I feel I'm probably more knowledgeable if anything than them when it comes to smartphones in general even if I haven't touched every single smartphone in existence. In saying that calling me a expert would be far fetched opposed to enthusiast.

Anyways do you genuinely believe these people are "experts" or just your average consumer who review how a phone is just by typical usage of the general consumer. Don't get me wrong though, I believe some people who do YouTube videos on phones are very knowledgable but the majority just seem to read a sheet of specs and try stuff out and call it a day. It's just a simple question I'm asking anyways, do you consider them experts?

So when I had my iOS even when I cleared all the notifs from my notification panel, it would still display all unread notifs on the app (example: Snapchat with a 2 at the top) I've tried doing this on my android and had no luck. Using a Samsung s7. Is there any way to do this?

Gamepad doesn't work on android 10.

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 05:53 AM PDT

Hello everyone, I have recently bought a "Doubleshock 4" controller which is a replica of original one. The thing is, whenever I connect this device to my phone, it says "connected" on phone but the gamepad doesn't recognize it and continues to blinking. Sometimes I manage to connect the gamepad as well but still it doesn't respond. Then I tried the controller on another device running oreo and it actually connected. After that I downgraded my phone to android 9, now it works as well however the 9 roms are quite old and unstable. Any suggestions for how I can solve this? My device is k20 pro and I've tried it on both miui and syberia OS, only worked after I switched to syberia 9.0

Does Android come pre-installed with a basic video editor like iMovie?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 07:27 AM PDT

Question is in the title. Is this something that comes with Android or does a 3rd party app have to be downloaded from the Play store? Thanks!

Play Store - Certain Apps not Updating on Multiple Devices of Mine

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 10:36 AM PDT

I'm finding multiple apps are not allowing updates in the play store. It's always the same apps that are an issue. First it was one app, then two, now I'm up to six. It's always the same applications that refuse to update. If I click update it'll start the download and then randomly stall at a certain amount and hang. I have to cancel the download or it sits in eternity on downloading and hangs at a certian amount (usually in the 80-98% range). Any ideas why?

I've tried the following to troubleshoot and none seem to fix it:

    • Clear data/cache and relaunch the playstore (including with reboot of device)
    • I've tried on a stock non-rooted OnePlus 6T (my personal device)
    • I've tried on my wife's rooted OnePlus 6 (which is under a different login I might add)
    • I've teried on my Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 (custom AOSP baseed ROM)

They all have the same issue. I'm getting concerned it's slowly effecting more and more apps. All three devices otherwise work fine without issue. I'm perplexed.

I rarely post on here mostly just comment and lurk so I'm not familiar on how to upload a photo but here's a link to said photo of what it's doing. Sometimes even when I cancel one it just hangs out while something else tries to download (see photo). Those four apps I have listed are the guilty agents not updating (Facebook, Emby, Tijuana Flats, Google Drive)

    Best alternative to Samsung phones?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 10:35 AM PDT

I'm fed up with my Galaxy s10 plus and the poor battery life. I'm stuck with the Exynos version here in the UK. What alternatives are there for me? I'm going to trade it in for something else. Pixel is also a no for me.

    Smartwatch with OnePlus 7T

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 10:34 AM PDT

    Hi all,

I'm currently considering a smartwatch and have been looking at the Galaxy Active (1st Gen) and a Fossil Sport (Fossil in general really!). Just wondered if anybody had any experience with those watches or any other with their OP phones and what they would recommend or avoid?

Budget is up to £200, need a small watch face as i have weedy arms 😂.

Concerns with Samsung is that it's built into their ecosystem, but maybe this isn't an issue?

Anyway, any help greatly received !

    Thanks

Should I root my s20 Ultra when I get it?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 10:33 AM PDT

So I've ordered an s20 ultra from China which is coming in May, instantly off the bat this voids my Samsung warranty and would mean Im relying on the Warranty the seller provides for a year. I would make sure everything is fine before even attempting to root but in saying this, I don't have as much to lose in that area by rooting.

I don't think I'd get official updates anymore either right? I heard the Chinese version of Samsung phones (snapdragon) have an unlocked bootloader though so surely I could just flash an update if I really wanted it anyways? In saying that also, I don't plan to even update this phone often unless say for the camera update. I believe updates usually just make the phone run worse over time demanding more from it.

The ideas of what rooting the phone opens up the doors to though has me thinking of doing it. Though is it even worth it these days? Most things seem to be able to be done without rooting.

So any opinions or justifications of benefits of rooting the phone or against for reasons I said or unrelated would he appreciated. Seems I'm in a position of being as well doing so as long as the phone works fine upon inspection when I receive it.

    Bluetooth crashing my wifi connection

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 05:39 AM PDT

I have a Samsung J3 PRIME 2018 and a few weeks ago, I noticed that I would lose WIFI connection. I remark that my Bluetooth was "on" so I turned "off". My WIFI connection was stable but not fast enough (about 90% slower). So, I rebooted my phone in "Safe Mode" and my WIFI connection was stable and fast, even with my Bluetooth "on". Can someone tell me what is the problem and how can I solve it.
