| Games for kids (recommended by me) Part 2 Posted: 03 Apr 2020 10:33 AM PDT A couple of months back, I made a post recommending some games and apps for kids. Since then, for reasons that probably don't need making explicit, I've been spending a lot of time indoors and have had to find even more things for a 4 year old to do, that don't involve other kids, or shredding the tattered remains of my sanity by ricocheting off every wall in my not-terribly-big apartment. As a protective measure, I bought one of the new Fire 10HD tablets and after putting Google services on it (thanks to ETA prime), I've been filling it with child-friendly content, the best of which I've listed below. Note: I don't think any of the apps are ad supported, as I tend to avoid them, but I also use blokada, so I wouldn't notice even if they were. Two of my kid's newest favourites come from the Cowly Owl Ltd studio. They are: Dinosaur Mix and Monster Mingle. Both are similar in concept, Monster Mingle having more content variation and developed gameplay. Create your monster (or dinosaur) by drag and dropping body parts, then stomp/hop/fly/swim your way through the landscape. Still on the topic of dinosaurs, I forgot to mention Dinosaurs Cards PRO in my last post, when it was actually one of the first games that really clicked with my son. It's a collection of flashcards with pop up fact sheets, roars, a tile puzzle and scribble-pad overlay. Still gets the occasional launch. T-Rex Fights Dinosaurs - Dominator Edition is a super-basic streetfighter 2 style game where the combatants are dinos. Pick your dino, pick your background and then grimace as your child enthusiastically tries to button bash on a tablet. In my last post, I mentioned Hidden Folks, a wonderfully crafted, monochromatic, Where's Wally style, find-the-object game. Since then, I've found Hidden Through Time, which seems to be a superb rip-off with colours, cavemen, dinosaurs and a map editor. Again, this is not just for kids. Recommended for everyone since the last update (which fixed a crippling bug). Interactive Stories: Subheading says it all really. Green Eggs and Ham - Dr. Seuss is a classic and decent mobile experience (tap anything on screen and the word will appear), as is The Three Billy Goats Gruff, which is as you remember, except that when you tap the goats, they fart. Endless entertainment, right there... Educational Games: First Colouring book for preschool kids: Exactly what it says it is. Easy and intuitive UI for pre-readers. Pick up and paint. Little Mouse's Encyclopedia is a collection of 4 interactive outdoor scenes, which you navigate via the avatar of a little mouse. Each scene is a separate and animated ecosystem, that you as the mouse, walk, swim, climb or burrow through. Drag a magnifying glass over plants and creatures to bring up a fact sheet. Parental oversight is probably required as there's reading, though my son just like to wander and interact too. Khan Academy Kids: Free educational games & books should probably get its own review. This is by far the single best (in terms of design and content) educational app for kids that I've seen so far. Can't recommend it enough. Maths, reading, logic and art all have dedicated sections, with exercises and videos. It's also completely free. I'm now using this to do all our school stuff. Before Khan Academy came along, we were using Reading Raven: Learn to read phonics adventure quite a bit and I don't think I will uninstall it, as it was enjoyed and well put together. Two more honorable mentions are CotBot City, where you drive various utility vehicle around said city and perform various civic services (putting out fires and picking up trash etc) and Toca Life World - Create stories & make your world, which is the expandable version (through IAPs) of Toca Town that I mentioned in my last post. Having just gone back to look at both of these, I realise that they both say they have ads. Just an FYI. Lastly, I've been continuing to collect all the premium Dr. Panda games that go on sale. Kid likes them all and they tend to go from £4 to free, so no complaints here. Once again, shout out to Appsales, without which these lists would not be possible. It's the placeI find most games and apps, that isn't reddit. Hope you find something to keep your offspring occupied. Stay safe. [link] [comments] | ||
| Why is Papers, Please not a mobile game? Posted: 02 Apr 2020 01:35 PM PDT I can't imagine playing it on my pc and not playing it on my phone. [link] [comments] | ||
| Looking for a decent game similar to Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV. Posted: 03 Apr 2020 09:06 AM PDT Looking for something along the lines of Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV. I see a lot of F2P clone looking games when I search in the play store, but really have no idea whether or not there is anything similar that is a quality game and doesn't include a million microtransactions. Is there anything out there? [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 03 Apr 2020 05:26 AM PDT Not sure who recommended Heroes of Steel by the Trees Brothers, but what a recommendation. Took me a while to get into it and the visual style is a little outdated, but more than made up with by everything else about the game being excellent. Loving it, great RPG [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 03 Apr 2020 08:27 AM PDT Are there any games being made that follow the old design of games like monster warlord/downtown Mafia. Want something new and or updated. Cheers [link] [comments] | ||
| A game companion app? Seriously?! Posted: 03 Apr 2020 12:29 PM PDT When the Fortnite game launched there was a lot of hype around their business model, freemium but without rightly criticized loot-boxes. You can just buy a skin or item to show off for a couple of bucks but with no competitive advantage (it just looks cool). Epic Games made $2.4 billion in revenue in 2018 like that. When I was playing almost every day I literally scrolled Reddit and Twitter daily to check what are the latest skins, they were so cool. Later I discovered that there are native apps and websites that solve this problem with decent downloads and reviews. Because designing apps is what I do, I wanted to make one myself, a simple and beautiful one as a side project during evenings and weekends! Having to work with models and skins made by Epic games is actually a joy as the content is already awesome, you just need to make it stand out. Worked with a great developer to make it a reality and we finally shipped it. So excited! [link] [comments] | ||
| Easy game to play with girlfriend? Posted: 03 Apr 2020 03:07 AM PDT Hey guys. In this time of staying inside I need a game to play with my girlfriend online. 1v1 or team up together. The game should be easy and not complicated. Cards game maybe or anything else that is fun like tic tac toe bomberman and those kind of games. Can you give me suggestions please? | Posted: 02 Apr 2020 12:14 PM PDT So due to the quarantine my friends and I are bored and want to play some games together. The problem is that everyone is scattered all over the place. Can you recommend some games where more than 4 people could play online together? It could be any type of game, party, board games, etc. [link] [comments] | ||
| Most played Online Game with Voice Chat? Posted: 03 Apr 2020 03:05 AM PDT So like the title suggests. I need a game to play with my 3 friends that has voice chat. We played cod mobile and got to legendary. We need something else. Is there a game as popular as pubg and cod mobile. It doesn't need to be an action game, any genre is good. [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 02 Apr 2020 01:22 PM PDT I'm a chronic game downloader/uninstaller. Sometimes I've been finding it hard to get through the tutorial of most games. My work hours have reduced by half, and while hobbies fill up some of the time, I'd like a game that keeps me coming back for more regularly. Suggestions on your favourite addictive games, or suggestions on how I can break the download/delete cycle? [link] [comments] | ||

| [REQUEST] Looking for a old Hex Tile Puzzle game Posted: 02 Apr 2020 06:48 PM PDT I am looking for a older mobile puzzle game where you rotate hexagon tiles to connect paths together (similar to Tantrix). You could chose the grid size, 1 line or 2 lines (which were blue and red), and how tangled you wanted the lines to be. I remember that is had a darker color theme but also had a timer for how fast you could untangle the paths. I can't find it in my google play history (which I guess its been deleted) but any help would be appreciated. [link] [comments] | ||
| Do I need to play Monument Valley 1 before 2? (Story-wise) Posted: 03 Apr 2020 02:05 AM PDT I'm really interested in the game so it's important for me to know if they story of Monument Valley 1 is important for the second part that is free in the store right now. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
