Gboard is so much better on Android than iOS.

    Posted: 03 Apr 2020 07:04 AM PDT

People love to complain about Google releasing updates and new features for iOS before Android... but Gboard on Android is so much better than it is on iOS.

The customizable shortcut bar above the keyboard. The separate number row. Long-pressing for symbols. Gboard on iOS has none of these things I used every day!

Gboard for iOS has the one-handed use feature, but the touch target is much harder to hit than it is on Android, and you can't move it around or change the size.

Also, a lot of Google's iOS apps don't have dark mode yet.

You know what else I miss? Save to Drive!

I could share everything and anything to my Google Drive with that share shortcut. Not available on iOS.

Or printing to PDF! On Android it's just another printer option. On iOS I have to do a gesture on the print preview to bring up the save to PDF option.

The back button on Android may be obtuse to many people, but at least there's a system-level universal back gesture/button! On iOS sometimes you can swipe right and sometimes you have to find the back button in the app! No consistency!

The grass isn't always greener, folks. Google and Android aren't perfect, but there's a lot of great options that iOS doesn't have.

Post script... didn't even get into how great and useful Samsung's One Hand Operation + app is!

    Average Battery Life Nowadays??

    Posted: 03 Apr 2020 07:26 PM PDT

So as time goes by, we got to see new models of phones with battery of 4000-6000mah.

So I wanted to hear, especially from those that have newer models with high battery capacity, their average hours or days they got when using their phones until drainage and also their average screen on time.

Edit: I would also like to know the average of high power usage like when gaming and low power like when using only for work

What is the best Android phone you've ever owned purely off nostalgia?

The Galaxy S6 was my first Android, and it did a complete 180 on the way Samsung's phones felt and appeared. Curious to see if older Androids have a special place for people.

Samsung Xcover Fieldpro now available on ATT in America

    Posted: 03 Apr 2020 08:42 AM PDT

I've been watching their website for it almost daily and it just popped up today. I've already ordered it as an upgrade to my beloved KeyOne. I don't want to get rid of this phone but the battery is barely lasting me half a day now. My last phone was an S8 active and I had been hoping Samsung would release a new heavy duty phone.

Delivery is estimated for about two weeks out so it's going to be a long wait.

Fight COVID-19 on your Android Device, while you sleep!

    Posted: 03 Apr 2020 09:28 AM PDT

Rosetta@Home (https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/) is a scientific research project on the BOINC distributed computing platform, they have been allowing volunteers to point ordinary x86 Win/Linux computers to their project to help in the fight against COVID-19 for several weeks. The work is to model millions of possible protein compounds that may block the ability of Novel Coronavirus to infect human cells.

Today they have released an new set of work for Android. Simply download the BOINC App from Play Store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=edu.berkeley.boinc&hl=en_US) and sign up to Rosetta.

You can control the core count/RAM/storage in the BOINC App as well as whether to run on battery or on charge only (recommend on charge only as it will zap your battery) as well as control max battery temperature, personally I set mine at max 30Deg C for other BOINC research I do on my phones/tablets.

While you are charging overnight, fight Coronavirus!

EDIT: Lots of comments about battery longevity, suggest you look at the options in the app before commenting as there is fine grained control over cores, % utilisation, temperatures, RAM, storage etc.

I'm getting to the point of giving up

    Posted: 03 Apr 2020 05:14 PM PDT

No matter what android phone I ever have group messaging never works right.

I not only get them as single messages half the time but at least 2/3 of the time these single messages say downloading and they never download even if my mobile data is on. I can't see these messages so I can't contribute to group chats and I don't know what to do.

I've called the phone company, I've changed my MMS settings, I've changed phones, ect. Does anyone else have this problem and have you found a way to fix it for good? If not then I will have to transition over to iPhone (even though I don't want to) as I need to get these messages for work.
