Samsung Dex is saving my job

    Posted: 18 Mar 2020 09:49 AM PDT

I work for a company that is small enough to suffer major consequences in this market downturn (we're publicly traded, didn't perform well in 2019, stock is weak already even before this downturn) yet large enough to not focus on individual employees if one or a handful doesn't get paid or loses their job.

Our office is in a very large (think... empire state building) corporate office building and and with the Coronavirus scare, the company is trying to skirt the lines of allowing employees to work from home as long as they're still productive, or if not, they've made it clear that time will go unpaid or you take PTO.

Those that have laptops can still do their work from home, no problem. I'm one of 2 employees in my office (the receptionist, and me-one of the newer employees) that didn't get a laptop, but got a new desktop when joining the company 5 months ago. If i wasn't able to be productive, I wouldn't be getting paid.

Here comes Samsung Dex on my Note 9. I have a pretty good computer at home (AMD 3600x, RX580, 16gb ram, 32in 1440p + 24in 1200p screen.) I have access to my company's Outlook, Onedrive, Teams, and CRM on my phone. Microsoft Apps on android have worked very well for me via Microsoft Authenticator. Samsung Dex allows me to be 1000% more productive in terms of typing, multitasking, working with excel/word/pdfs/copy&paste/file explorer, and generally be in a more comfortable body position at a desk.

Without Dex, i may still be able to get by, but would work nowhere near as fast, make more errors, and probably flat out not be able to do some things. Deeming me not productive, and giving my boss an excuse to not pay me.

All you need is an compatible samsung phone (I believe S9 or newer)

This software for windows, https://www.samsung.com/global/galaxy/apps/samsung-dex/ or you can use a USB C to HDMI cable to use samsung dex without Windows, but then you'd need a BT Keyboard + mouse.

And a USB 3.0 or better USB A or USB C to USB C cable to connect to the computer.

I know this isn't relevant to all android users, forgive me. But I believe theres lots of Samsung users that should try out this feature. All it takes is a USB C 3.0 cable.
