| Potentially looking to switch to Android...need some advice... Posted: 01 Mar 2020 07:53 PM PST I'm a current Apple user and at work- everyone on my team (analytics to be vague) is an apple user- so the ecosystem has been easy to be involved in...especially with iMessage. However- I've had an Apple device since 2014 and I'm bored and excited about the idea of a change. What am I in for? Any Apple users who've made the switch that are 100% thrilled? Any of you who aren't and willing to speak up? I'm willing to invest in a "flagship" model...and obviously enough I'm thinking of trying one of the new S20 devices. Can someone help talk me through this? Would I be able to use "Microsoft 365" and "Google" apps better on android devices than Apple? (This is probably my biggest question.) Thanks for your serious replies! [link] [comments] | ||

| 10-bit color depth video capture. Posted: 01 Mar 2020 05:09 AM PST I want to have a discussion regarding video recording on current Android devices. Both the snapdragon 855 and the new 865 have the ability to capture 10-bit video, and yet if you Google search for it you don't see anything that lets you do it, I think this could be the critical point of reaching video superiority vs the iphone. We already have the option of video recording with higher bitrate thanks to apps like filmic, open camera, hedge cam, etc. And these apps also let you shoot in log, but log capture with 8 bit is imo irrelevant. | Is anyone else here addicted to changing your Android's homescreeen layout? Posted: 01 Mar 2020 04:47 AM PST Ever since I got my first tablet years ago, I've been constantly changing launchers, icon packs, and layouts several times a week. I'm never satisfied and I get bored of things really quick. I guess it's fun in a way, but it's kind of annoying tbh. Then I find myself switching to default because that way I don't have the option to change anything but then I really get annoying by choices made by the Android skin I'm using and I switch back to launchers again. Not to mention, on my current LG I can't use stock widgets with launchers like Nova idk why. Anyone else? [link] [comments] | ||
| What 2020 phones will have the best cameras? Posted: 01 Mar 2020 01:14 PM PST We're into 2020 and have seen some new phones from big players — Samsung, I'm looking at you with the Galaxy S20 Ultra. And I was thinking: there is nothing we will have from our phones in a decade while will distinguish what our daily carry was in 2020 except for a handful of pictures. From Google we have the Pixel 4, and it does a lot of things well. OnePlus is coming along with the 8 and 8 Pro, which may come with 4 cameras. Huawei and Xaomi have had strong hardware lately, but some of the interesting hardware of 2019 (and here I mean the Nokia 9 Pureview) ended up being underwhelming, whereas phones with moderate hardware and great software outperformed. So what are going to be the best phone cameras of 2020? [link] [comments] | ||
| At What Point Do Phones Start Plateauing? Posted: 01 Mar 2020 10:14 PM PST At this point in time the 300$ phones are amazing compared to 5 or 10 years ago. The new phones being released are not changing much, fair enough because you can only change so much design wise or build wise. We are going to reach a point where the only things to improve on are battery life and camera. The average user cannot tell the difference past 1080p , hell I don't even care for 4k because on my old tv 1080 looks amazing already. All these new phones are going toward gimmick items like folding phones or whatever as there is nothing new to do. Why don't they just improve and upgrade their current lineups instead of trying to 'revolutionize' every time [link] [comments] | ||
| Docker for uploading android APKs to google drive Posted: 01 Mar 2020 08:23 AM PST hi, I have created a docker image, built from android-build-box, to upload files to google drive. It contains a program to upload your files to google drive. You can give Access Token, Refresh Token, Client Id, Client Secret as Environment variables. So your script section in the pipeline will contain something like Drive Uploader Code - https://github.com/ashwinbhaskar/google-drive-file-uploader [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 02 Mar 2020 01:14 AM PST Guys... I remember back in Gingerbread days to Kitkat people went insane with new OS update versions, the insane designs of Android phones and being the complete opposite of Apple. Now, everywhere I turn THE PHONES LOOK LIKE CHEAP KNOCK OFFS OF iPhones... the Operating system has become boring as hell! I mean is XDA still relevant today? The hell? Android used to promote freedom, emulators running playstation games, all sorts of weirdness you don't find on Apple... it's just gone now. [link] [comments] |
