Hyperion or Nova? Which uses less battery life?

    Posted: 08 Mar 2020 06:46 AM PDT

Had a guy tell me all these amazing apps I could use on my phone and he told me Hyperion is much more efficient than Nova with battery life yet performs the same. I mean, I can definitely tell it performs the same but I'm wondering if anyone knows if its truly more battery efficient? The apps more or less seem identical but just do some things slightly different. So which launcher uses less battery I'm assuming hyperion? Which is better even besides that?

Spoof device specs for one app

    Posted: 08 Mar 2020 03:45 AM PDT

I use Kinemaster on my phone to edit video, but due to my devices relatively low specs (Moto g5s plus), the app only allows me to edit videos 720p or below

How can I spoof my devices specs for this app to pretend to be a device with higher specs?

Text-to-Speech changing voices on it's own, how do I stop it?

    Posted: 08 Mar 2020 02:03 PM PDT

This problem randomly started sometime last year (maybe during that update that made you download all the voices in a language as a pack.

Android is randomly setting the voice to "Voice I" from "Voice X" of the "English (UK) voices". At first I had no clue what was going on, but recently I noticed that the language in the TTS settings seems to briefly (like 1/2 a second) swap to "English (US)" before going back to "English (UK)" when this happens. I figured this has to do with language detection, so I changed that from "Conservative" to "Off". However, the problem continues, except each time it occurs, language detection gets set back to "Conservative" again.

So language detection really seems to be the problem, but I have no clue how to stop it from turning back on. Anyone have any advice?

I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S9+ running Android 10 (though the problem was there during android pie too).

I've always had this question; every app update says it requires a certain MB download. Does this mean everytime I update the apps will get more and more heavier?

How to block ads/ websites on Android devices, specifically amazon kindle fire tablet HD

    Posted: 08 Mar 2020 12:34 PM PDT

I randomly get pop up ads at the top of the screen and get notifications which are usually really dodgy like how to make money or this person wants to have fun near you etc. Sometimes they take me to a website as well. How do you stop this? It's really annoying when I try to watch something and it happens.

    Gestures on Launchers?

    Posted: 08 Mar 2020 12:29 PM PDT

Hey so I've ordered a Samsung S20+ and it should be arriving any day now. I was wondering if gestures works with launchers? like lawnchair 2 or nova because i'm not really a fan of samsungs original launcher. i'm on an OG Google Pixel at the moment and I really like the launcher and I've heard that lawnchair looks really similar!

    Thanks!

My phone ( Galaxy A70, android 9, no root) can't recognise ky sim. It happens at random times and not very often. If I restart the phone or if I remove the sim and put it back, it works fine. Why does this happen? How can I fix this issue?

Android won't start music unless I physically move phone

    Posted: 08 Mar 2020 06:00 AM PDT

This is driving me crazy, but my oneplus 6 sometimes ignores my play command on my headphones. I can pause just fine, but when I try to get it to play again, it ignores my input, UNTIL I take my phone out of the pocket, then it starts playing! I'm not clicking continuously, I click once, nothing happens, I wait 5-10 seconds, pull my phone out and as soon as it registers being flipped around it starts playing. This happens with Spotify, pocket casts, phonograph and all other audio apps. It happens with all cabled headsets (NOT bluetooth). I would say it happens 80% of the time. I've actually had this happen before, on my oneplus 3t, but not this frequently. Anyone else have this bizarre problem?

    Battery issues

    Posted: 08 Mar 2020 08:09 AM PDT

I had massive battery issues, it only lasted a quarter of a day, originally one whole day. So I replaced the battery with another one. Now it lasts half a day, still not the whole day.

Obviously, the new battery could also be bad or the phone would consume a lot of power.

However I noticed that the phone charges extremely fast in half of the original time. I don't have fast charge, it is a very old phone. So, I assume that the phone simply does not fully charge.

Am I missing something? Any suggestions?

    Bluetooth audio briefly cutting out

    Posted: 08 Mar 2020 11:52 AM PDT

Hi, hoping someone can help me with this. I have been having issues with my Bluetooth connection on my Samsung devices. I have a Bose speaker that when I play music through it, the music keeps stopping, and when it plays again the pitch is a bit higher and it's super annoying. I had this issue on a J7, switched to a Xiaomi Mi A2 and the issue was not there. However, on my new from yesterday A51 the issue is there again! That's why I think it's Samsung related. Also, this happens with my JBL Bluetooth headphones.

Is it normal that S10 comes with android 10 ?

    Posted: 08 Mar 2020 11:42 AM PDT

I recently bought an S10 from a pretty decent store 8n Saudi.. it has that black sticker that you have to cut in order to open the box But the problem is: it ALREADY has android 10! I know that s10 is upgradable to android 10, but I thought that it should come with android 9 then I have to do the upgrade I'm suspicious that the phone has been used (for show or test at the store)

    Should I return it?

Notification sound, but no notification? [LG g7 ThinQ Android 9 Pie]

    Posted: 08 Mar 2020 11:39 AM PDT

I recently got this phone and for the most part it's great, but these phantom notifications are starting to drive me crazy.

My phone frequently makes a notification sound but shows no notification when I check it. Most of the time it plays a pair of notification sounds one right after the other. I installed a notification log app. When I check the log after hearing the notifications it shows no recent notifications in the log. What's going on?

Coming over from iPhone - have some issues

    Posted: 07 Mar 2020 10:27 PM PST

    Hi there,

I recently got a Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra after spending a few too many years with the same iPhone. I mostly got it because of its advanced top of the line features that would surely keep up for a minimum of 2 years and I've always been interested in the Android ecosystem and how customizable it is. But I find myself overwhelmed by both how much Android offers but also how some quality of life improvements could be made and I'm half tempted to switch back. Forgive my naivety but there are some features on iPhone that make it extremely convenient. If you don't mind, I've got a list of problems and I was hoping if you would be able to help me solve each one of them. For context; I am aware of launchers and the concept behind rooting, but I would like to keep my experience on the One Plus 2 UI as vanilla as possible. I'm open to it if there are no other options though.

    • One thing that's killing me more than I thought was the lack of proper in-screen volume on any sort of music player app. I'm listen to music all the time and I understand that you can press the volume button and adjust a slider for different types of sounds - but I love the convenience of my lockscreen lighting up and sliding the volume horizontally and not having the song I'm playing take over my entire lockscreen. I've tried out VolumeSlider (a bit too finicky to come close to iPhone's functionality IMO) as well as Sound Assistant but none of these seem to fulfil my iPhone-centric preferences. I was even surprised to find that there's a a massive space above or number playback bars that would be the perfect placement for a volume slider. Expanding on this, is there anything else I can install where I can adjust a volume slider on the status bar? I love the convenience of pulling down the iPhone's control center to adjust brightness and volume on the spot but unfortunately it seems that there's only a brightness slider in the status bar and I can't find anything in regards to installing a volume slider. My issue with volume sliders and how Android handles downloaded music is probably my most significant complaint.

    • My other complaint is the misuse of screen real estate - seen here and here for example in the default Samsung Notes and Phone apps. Is there anything I can do in Settings or download on the Play Store to maximize the screen real estate of such apps to be as compact and efficient as possible?

    • This one is a bit less significant but I'd like to ask anyway. I like using the full screen gestures, specifically the swipe from sides and bottom (since it resembles iPhone of course and I feel very comfortable with it) but is there anything I can do with changing the positioning of the back function with swiping from the left hand side? There's a bunch of apps that I use that require swiping from the sides to open panels and such and it's annoying have to do it from a specific angle so that it doesn't go activate the back function.

    • In regards to notifications, on iPhone you can see a preview of the notification, for example 'Missed call: John Doe', 'Message: Jane Doe' or 'Discord: Notification'. Even though, some place somewhere (I'm sure I've forgotten), I enabled hide content, but I also have enabled preview (on the messages app I believe?). I would still like to see the general information about those notifications specifically on the lockscreen and not in the status bar. And I've also noticed while playing music, notifications go straight into the status bar. Is there any way to adjust that to my iOS-preferences?

    • Is there any way to select which six items (along the lines of Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Torch, I forgot the specific name for them) I want to display in the status bar? From my few days experience with the phone it seems like it's based on usage?

    • This is a way minor gripe but is there any way to change the icons of the status bar such as the battery and wifi icons? Or anyway to change the icons of individual apps without having to use something like the Nova launcher?

    • Are we able to adjust the apps at the bottom corners of the lockscreen? Additionally, can we change how we can use them? Instead of the swipe that you do, can we change it to a simple press or a hold?

    • With holding the sidekey, the only two options provided are 'Wake Bixby' and 'Power off menu' - is there anything that could change that into a mute button? (I imagine this would require something along the lines of rooting)

That's all I can think of at the moment, I may have more issues that might return to memory. I'm keen to remain with this phone and although I know a lot of these points are coming from someone who has spent a long time on iOS, I know that Android is hugely customizable and I just want to tailor it to my preferences and I want my experience with this device to be as smooth and comfortable as possible. Any help would be appreciated!

EDIT: Also, another thing. I bought and inserted a Samsung SD card to put all my photos into when I used Smart Switch. All my images and videos have been brought over and are perfectly playable. However, there are some videos that don't have a thumbnail and are just greyed out with an exclamation mark in a circle. I tried to clearing the storage cache and data, as well as installed some apps that apparently find thumbnails revolving around circumventing a .nomedia file but I still can't find a fix for it. Apparently it has to do with the SD card but all my videos work fine? What should I do?

Is it possible to use my Note 10 as an HDMI input using an HDMI female to USB C male Port?

    Posted: 08 Mar 2020 11:04 AM PDT

In theory, I see no reason this wouldn't work but from research there doesn't seem to be a simple way to do this. The apps I've found either look super sketchy or work as an output. Specifically, I want to route the HDMI output from my DSLR to my phone to use as a monitor. Using just a normal monitor, the HDMI works perfectly fine. Any help?

Android Auto this internet connection is not stable right now

    Posted: 08 Mar 2020 10:45 AM PDT

I have a Galaxy S9+ and for the past two months Android auto voice commands for texting have not been working. I know there were a lot of bugs in a receipt AA release but this is ridiculous. When I try to use voice commands for texting I get a "This internet connection is not stable right now" message. The internet connection is more than stable. I'm using navigation and streaming music and doing other voice commands no problem. Just this one.

Wondering if there is anything I can do to get rid of this problem. Thanks.

Dark Google App; White Assistant; Dark while navigating within Google maps!?

    Posted: 08 Mar 2020 10:42 AM PDT

I'm still on Android 9 (LG V40) but I've had the option of selecting a theme within the Google app for a few weeks now.

What I'm confused about is that even after setting a Dark theme the Update tab (or page or whatever they're calling it) and the Assistant remain white.

This would be fine as I understand all of this is under construction, I'm still on Pie and Google seemingly just enjoys confusing their users with fragmented releases; however, while traveling today and vocally adding a stop within Google Maps the Assistant popped up and was completely Dark. In fact it functioned exactly as expected only the interface was finally Dark.

This of course did not carry over to the Assistant outside of Google Maps Navigation mode.

Am I missing something, a setting somewhere or is the Dark option for anything outside of the Google App a complete random occurrence if you're not on Android 10?

My opening splash screen for Google Maps is Dark. The app and its menu's are not; Gmail is not; and the Assistant is not.

There's conflicting information on so many of the Android sites dating back to last fall, so I wanted to just see if I was alone as it's incredibly frustrating.

Why do they make this process so difficult and confusing?

How do I recover a bootlooping LG G2 without losing data?

    Posted: 08 Mar 2020 09:49 AM PDT

I was trying to get some data off of a T-Mobile LG G2. Unfortunately, the phone tried to fight with me, so I decided to root it to get around the bullshit. The phone has been rebooted several times since then, but on one particular reboot, the phone decided to strike back at me and not actually boot up, and it has never booted up since. I get stuck on the LG logo with the smoothly transitioning green/blue LED. And this is where I'm stuck, but I won't let a phone defeat me. It would be nice if I could get the phone working, but I don't care about the phone itself that much because the phone has already been replaced. I only need some of the data from it. (It was not backed up because it is my mom's old phone, not mine, and my mom is an idiot.) I can think of several ways to proceed.

    1. Try to fix it with recovery mode. Unfortunately, the built in recovery mode only offers a factory reset, so I would have to install TWRP with download mode first. Except from my research it seems like I can only flash the main OS with download mode, overriding the data in the process, and I'd have to use a Windows machine to do it.

    2. Somehow get access to ADB and use that to do anything that has to be done. USB debugging is enabled, but as far as I can tell, ADB only runs when Android is fully booted. Which obviously doesn't happen anymore.

    3. Boot into fastboot mode and do stuff from there to get it back up. It seems like in order to make it do that, the phone has to be unable to pass execution to whatever boot mode I try to boot it into (whether that's Android, download mode, or LG's shitty excuse for "recovery" mode). If that's right, it means that the phone is not broken enough and I need to somehow break it more.

What should I proceed with, and how should I go about it? If none of these are good ideas, what should I do instead?

I think I'm done with Android. I hope the Librem 5 or Pinephone take off, because iPhone is even worse.
