    Android Questions: How do I lower the call volume?

    How do I lower the call volume?

    Posted: 27 Mar 2020 11:33 AM PDT

    Hi, during every call I make, the lowest possible volume is 20 percent, and that is way too loud. Especially when wearing headphones or earbuds. I am quite upset about this, because it is not healthy for anyone to listen at a call at a volume they are not comfortable with. Anyway... what I wanted to ask: how do I lower this way too loud call volume? Or break the 20 percent down in smaller steps, so I can put it at around 5 or so?

    What I do not want is install a paid app, or an app that provides a free trial period after which you still have to pay. I also don't want to have to break or otherwise manipulate the speakers in my headphones. I would really appreciate a permanent solution to this really unnecessary problem, which shouldn't even exist.

    Thanks for any help!

    I will probably provide a screenshot later.

    Google play blocking access to free app

    Posted: 27 Mar 2020 08:07 AM PDT

    I've installed Monument Valley 2 on my Samsung S10 but for some reason I cannot get past this screen (see attached).

    I've tried the Playpass trial a while ago but unsubscribed shortly after. Pressing the Buy App button doesn't work as it shows the loading icon but then goes back to the same screen. I've contacted the Google Play Support and we tried to troubleshooting this by uninstalling Google Play Store and Services and have them re-updating but the problem still remains. Any idea on this? Thanks!

    I was looking for a Google Camera mod for the Umidigi Z2 SE and came across this post. However, the Google Drive file in the comments no longer exists... Does anyone have a suggestion as to where else I can find Google Camera for this phone?

    New 16:9 phones? Do they exist?

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 07:16 PM PDT

    I know iPhone 8, Razer Phone, Moto Z2 Force...but are there any newer phones with a 16:9 screen ratio? I miss the feel of my Nexus 6. Even China phones would be fine... I just want something thats has come out recently.... Not 2-3 years ago.. Thanks!

    Posted: 27 Mar 2020 01:10 PM PDT

    To start off, I have nothing against Amber Alert. The problem is that when they send 1 amber alert out, my phone will constantly get it every hour or so which gets really annoying. I asked my friend if they are constantly get, and they said no. So not sure why I'm the only one that keeps constantly get it.

    Sudden slowing and extreme battery usage Motorola G10 Power plus

    Posted: 27 Mar 2020 01:04 PM PDT

    Hi all,

    My fairly new Motorola G10 power plus used to have really good battery life (like 3 days to a full charge) up until a week ago or so. Now it suddenly drains in less half a day and runs really laggy and slow. I think there may be some malware or something causing this, but Avast and AVG don't find anything. Under battery usage, there's an app called "Android System" which doesn't look right and used to say "com.qti.service.colorservice" which is apparently using 70% of the battery!

    Is this malware? How do I remove it?

    I hope you can help me as my phone is quickly becoming unusable.

    Why does installing apk files from unknown sources require another app with special permissions?

    Posted: 27 Mar 2020 01:03 PM PDT

    With Android 8+ you have to give permissions to selected apps like Chrome, Google Drive, etc. in order to install an apk file from an unknown source. What is the point of that? Why go through another app if you could just enable permissions on the file itself and do the installation on the OS level.

    ATT Galaxy S5

    Posted: 27 Mar 2020 09:10 AM PDT

    Has anyone successfully rooted an ATT Samsung Galaxy S5. I've had trouble with the apps stalling. The latest version of OS is Android 6.01 and there are no plans to update according to ATT and Samsung. The phone battery was tested and is good. The next step would be rooting but from my research I have not so far found anyone who has been successful. Also what are the adverse effects if any of using the phone with operating software that is no longer supported?

    Sony Xperia Tablet Z2 no recovery mode? Any way to bypass lockscreen?

    Posted: 27 Mar 2020 12:43 PM PDT

    I've just been able to recharge my tablet via the magnetic charger (usb port stopped functioning a while back), but now I do not remember my pattern passcode. I've been trying to access recovery mode but I can't, though I am fairly certain that I have done so previously. I've tried holding vol down + power, but it just enters the normal boot startup, and vol up + power causes 3 vibrations but it stays off. I've also tried releasing the power button once I feel the initial vibration and continue holding a volume key, but still nothing.

    Is there some other way to enter recovery mode? Or another way to bypass the lockscreen/force a factory reset? All my google accounts linked to my tablet are no longer linked because of password changes, and its been far too long for it to show up on my linked devices.

    [Help] Control Android Call/Camera functions from a USB connected Raspberry Pi

    Posted: 27 Mar 2020 10:14 AM PDT

    Hi,

    Hopefully someone can tell me if I'm on the right track here. I feel like I may be overlooking something in my design.

    In short, I am making a device for my Grandma who can't get out much with the current quarantine. The purpose of this device is to help her call people and read letters as unfortunately she is nearly blind and is really struggling to dial numbers into her landline phone. She has some we've pre-programmed into the phone but anyone else is a struggle.

    My idea is to have a small array of buttons she can press. For instance for the "phone" buttons we'll have: - A button which cycles contacts, e.g on each press reads aloud a different contact in a phonebook I'll setup for her. - A button to dial the contact. In future I want to add a button to activate the camera so we can read her letters to her, but for now the phone will do.

    The raspberry pi is going to pick up the button presses, this is connected to an android phone through USB to provide internet to the pi (she's never had internet at her house and I want to be able to remotely update the phonebook etc). I can do this myself, I am a developer and I have a 3d printer for the buttons and frame. I am struggling with the next bit...

    I can detect which contact is chosen via the raspberry pi. But how do I get this to the android phone to actually call someone? I've seen some things about the phone acting as a router when you are tethering. So I'm thinking I could set up a server on the phone to listen for inputs from the PI. I have no idea how i'd actually control the phone app though.

    Maybe I should just figure out how to do calls exclusively from the PI through an internet service and just use the phone for internet. I'm hoping by posting here I'll get a suggestion on what my best options are.

    Really appreciate any small suggestion / info.

    Thanks everyone and stay healthy!

    Best app for consolidating important documents, information, pics, etc?

    Posted: 27 Mar 2020 05:25 AM PDT

    For years I've been just taking pictures of super important items I need to reference often (like insurance cards, my son's social security card, etc.) and often find myself needing to access them quickly while on phone calls or at appointments. By favoriting the pics, I can at least keep anything important in the favorites section of my gallery so I can get to it pretty quickly.

    Problem now is that there's so many pics and they're blended with other favorite normal family/misc. pics that it's not quite as convenient as it used to be. Got to thinking there must be a neat app for such a necessity. Thought maybe Google Keep would be good, but I already have about seven frequently used lists in Google Keep, and it's not the most functional when it comes to pics anyway.

    I would like an app that could consolidate these important pics with a handful of important pdf/word/etc documents or even just brief bits of text that I could enter myself that would be helpful for quick access as well.

    Any suggestions/info/advice are much appreciated! Stay safe out there, Reddit!

    [NEED HELP FAST} Samsung S9 Stuck In Boot Loop/Recovery Mode

    Posted: 27 Mar 2020 08:57 AM PDT

    I was restarting my phone and that led to a screen show this:

If your phone continues to be unable to start, go to the next step. 2. Erase app data Deleting app configuration data may allow your phone to start in Safe mode. Safe mode allows access to basic functions, so you can back up any important data stored on your phone. After backing up your data, a factory reset may be needed to get your phone to stat normally. 3. Visit a service center If you don't want to erase your app data or your phone still doesn't start, visit a service center for assistance. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Try again Erase app data Power off View rescue log ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ #Reboot Recovery Cause is [system_server:12399 RecoverySystemParty]# #Reason is [RescueParty]# Supported API: 3

    Bottom app (Textra) rearranging everytime on restart

    Posted: 27 Mar 2020 08:48 AM PDT

    Everytime I restart my LG G8, the Textra app disappears from my bottom bar. The bar has the menu button, the phone app icon, the camera icon, and Firefox seems to stay down there as well. But on a restart, Textra disappears.

    Is this a Textra or Android issue? And what is the best way to fix this? I restart my phone every few days, and this is a minor annoyance but one I'd like to correct.

    How are Singletons handled across process death in Android?

    Posted: 27 Mar 2020 08:44 AM PDT

    Suppose MainActivity is the launcher activity and it sets a singleton. Then we open SomeIntermediateActivity, which will always open after MainActivity. This SomeIntermediateActivity knows that if the OS kills the process it needs to restore the value that was saved in the Singleton.

    Main Activity

    class MainActivity : AppCompatActivity() {
    override fun onCreate(savedInstanceState: Bundle?) {
    super.onCreate(savedInstanceState)
    setContentView(R.layout.activity_main)
    Singleton.globalVariable = "global_value"
    }
    }

    SomeIntermediateActivity

    class SomeIntermediateActivity : AppCompatActivity() {
    override fun onCreate(savedInstanceState: Bundle?) {
    super.onCreate(savedInstanceState)
    setContentView(R.layout.activity_main)
    if (savedInstanceState != null) {
    Singleton.globalVariable = savedInstanceState.getString(KEY) as String
    }
    }

    override fun onSaveInstanceState(outState: Bundle) {
    outState.putString(KEY, Singleton.globalVariable)
    super.onSaveInstanceState(outState)
    }

    companion object {
    const val KEY = "key"
    }
    }

    Singleton -

    object Singleton {
    lateinit var globalVariable: String
    }

    Is it in any way possible to get a kotlin.UninitializedPropertyAccessException exception in SomeIntermediateActivity in the function onSaveInsatanceState(outBundle: Bundle) on the line outState.putString(KEY, Singleton.globalVariable)

    If yes, then please help me replicate it.

    CyanogenMod 13 on Alcatel 5045D camera issue

    Posted: 27 Mar 2020 07:03 AM PDT

    So I installed Cyanogenmod and the gapps as on the xda-developers thread (https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/alcatel-one-touch-pixi-4-t3376597) on my 5045D.

    I have the following bugs:

    - Front flash not working

    - Front camera not working (in the camera app and also alternative camera apps, it doesn't even give me the option to change to the front camera)

    I haven't found anything really useful on the xda thread so I'm asking here now.

    Any ideas?

    Install Android/AndroidTV on "Smart" TV?

    Posted: 27 Mar 2020 06:31 AM PDT

    Hi!

    Apologies in advance since I do not know if thats the right place to ask this question. If not - I would appreciate any pointing to the right direction.

    I own a Chinese (I assume) "smart" TV with android BASED os, which has play store and other Android features, but it lacks a lot of other features and it kind of sucks.

    I thought about installing either vanilla Android or androidTV on it, since it already runs Android I figured it should work, even with tinkering. But I found nothing on the matter on Google.

    If anyone happens to know anything, here's a link to imgur with pictures of both the os and the "specs" according to it. The TV brand is "Muller" https://imgur.com/a/lQa03wp

    Thanks!
